Obernai (German: Oberehnheim) is an Alsatian town and medieval city of about 11,000 inhabitants. The legendary cradle of Sainte Odile, it is located 20 minutes south-west of Strasbourg and its international airport, but also 30 minutes from the German motorway network linking Frankfurt to Basel. Located on the Alsace wine route, it is crossed by Véloroute vineyard of Alsace (EuroVelo 5).
Obernai is the capital of the canton which is made up of about ten typical Alsatian towns like Krautergersheim (called the sauerkraut town). With five other villages, it also forms the community of the country of Sainte-Odile. In addition, Obernai is the second most visited city after Strasbourg, especially for its beautiful half-timbered houses.
