About this cottage rental

Calm, quiet, easy, breezy, healing. A wall of great books and NO TV. board games if it rains, bring your chess board. Washer dryer in the She Shed next door. A double bed but there's a couch that folds to a twin in the living room in case somebody snores! The lake breeze keeps the mosquitos at bay and there aren't any black flies to torture you! A boat or two goes by on the lake. The train whistle, also, across the lake... otherwise QUIET. 5 miles to the Bridport Country Store and the Town Green, where nothing much happens. 13 miles to Middlebury College. Over the bridge to Revolutionary Forts. Bald eagles abound and you'll hear crickets and owls and foxes, the wind, the waves, the train. This cottage is a sweet and small, book filled, wildly romantic, cozy and colorful, one bedroom (half opening to living room) with gas fireplace, full kitchen, covered deck...Fire pit right in front, lots of wood, with Adirondack chairs if you don't feel like going down to the beach. Little look out and stairs down to the beach. Stairs are sturdy but might be too much for people with mobility issues! A canoe for two and kayaks. charcoal and gas grill. No smoking, please. x The tub/shower is behind a Thai screen in the living room/kitchen area. The toilet is in a closet next to the kitchen! If you need LOTS of privacy, this isn't for you! S'mores and toasting sticks provided. Lovely outdoor twinkle lights. Narrow part of Lake Champlain, so you can canoe to New York State and some beautiful inlets. Great bass fishing, right off the shore. On a quiet 'dead end' lakefront dirt road, with only a few cottages, so just a random car goes by every so often. Great retreat to finish your novel or start one. Doggies LOVE it. Plenty of squirrels to chase and no cars. Long walks up the road and nearby trails to gorgeous views of the Adirondacks. Google Snake Mountain. Fort Ticonderoga across the bridge! You can sit and watch the lake and sunset from the porch or walk down a short winding path to the Look Out. Fires on the beach are the best,-plenty of beautiful smooth slate rocks to build your fire pit. When I come back to visit there are often beautiful beach slate sculptures. Every night there is a spectacular sunset, varied, intense, do I dare say life changing? Yes, there is wireless, who can do without it? but NO TV. Huge selection of good books you meant to read last year. Great birdwatching! Eagles, huge woodpeckers, hummingbirds. This area of the Northeast has the darkest night skies -- so the stargazing is spectacular! Grill on the beach at dusk, or the deck, or take the canoe out and watch the stars. Wonderful hiking trails nearby and waterfalls up in the mountains. This is a great part of Vermont... ! It's 20 minutes, a beautiful easy drive to the gorgeous college town of Middlebury, and a great starting point for various Vermont locations not to mention Revolutionary Forts across the bridge, and the infamous Star Trek museum in Ticonderoga?! You are literally 10 feet from the lake, so when a window is opened, dust appears, a spider web in the corner. It's country, so get in a country mood! If you really want to get away from it all but have the option of a nice restaurant 14 miles away, (Fire and Ice, The Black Sheep) this is your place. My cottage is down the hill, behind a fence. When I'm visiting, I'm close enough to hear you scream if you are attacked by a chipmunk, otherwise, you won't hear a peep from me. Canoe, kayak, read, drink martini's or tea, grill out, take long walks or hikes, tour the many Vermont breweries. The Trail Around Middlebury is gorgeous. Most guests sit by the fire and stare at the lake. Or just sleep in the deafening quiet! comfy mattress. This kind of quiet isn't for everybody, but for those who are rattled by the ways of the world and really need a retreat, here it is! Yes, it's a small place but there's a walk in closet to stash your extras! NOTE: sensitive lake front holding tank. Lake Front septic system. Waste basket in bathroom for extra toilet paper. If it's yellow let it mellow!! Just part of the equation here, being SO CLOSE to the lake on a ledge! At least it's not an outhouse (which was here in 1964 when my parents bought the place!)
This is the Champlain Valley, rolling green hills, lodged between the Adirondacks and the Green Mountains. Amazing farm stands that sell home baked sour dough bread, fresh eggs, veggies, creamies! Syrup. Apple and strawberry picking in season. The Valley is a very popular wedding destination, cows and alpacas invited. Wine tasting and a vineyard close by. lush vegetation so I organic spray for ticks.

Fantastic!! Host was awesome! Beautiful view on the Lake, Places to walk and close by. A place to rest and have fun. Warm and cozy! Loved the atmosphere. Will go back in warmer weather to take advantage of the many amenities of the Lake and area. Better than a 5 star hotel. Romantic and charming shall sum it up. Very basic. Which we loved.

Cute, cozy, quiet lake cabin with spectacular views! We loved being feet away from the lake, spending our mornings watching nature and enjoying the scenery all from the cabin front porch! Kayaking in the afternoon on lake Champlain was fantastic.. does not get better than this! Cabin itself was cute, clean, wonderfully unique, and has everything you could need. The area around Bridport is beautiful & Snake Mt. was a great day hike with amazing views. Laurel is a great host and we can’t wait to book another stay in the future!
