I traveled for business in the immediate area of Ryokan Nakadaya, so the location was ideal. I stayed for one month. The owner was very friendly and helpful, seeing me off each time I left and greeting me when I returned. He even pushed my luggage all the way to the train station on my way home. The building had very basic shared facilities outside the room (toilets, laundry, shower, microwave, fridge) which were useful and all very clean. Rooms and bedding were cleaned everyday. Air conditioning worked great. The price was reasonable and the area was quiet in the evenings. I'd recommend for solo budget travel if you want to spend time in that area of Tokyo (Ueno/Asakusa/Sky Tree), but not for families or for access to places on the west side of Tokyo.
It is an older place, so single rooms especially are quite small and lack storage space/drawers/wardrobe. There are no places to keep food in the rooms (and it is impossible to keep cockroaches out of houses in the summer). The common room is also a little small and not very comfortable. I rarely saw anyone using it. The facilites are all located at one end of a long hallway, so sometimes this means a lot of going back and forth carrying things like food or toiletries. The price was a little more than many of the other accommodations in the area.

very convenient placement. there's a supermarket 2 minutes away. same as 7/11, lawson and a post office. the ryokan is clean and the rooms have tatami floors:) the facilities are also kept clean and there's access to washing/drying machines. there are free to borrow towels, which was awesome. there were also multiple power outlets in my room. the owner has helped me figure out where to go and what to see, i'm very thankful it's very near a perfect place to stay while traveling

I booked myself the twin share room and my favourite feature of the room besides the traditional tatami mats were that I had a generous space to organise my clothes. Great value for a single person! There were 2/3 working showers with great water pressure, and a recommendation of single use unlimited towels washed and dried provided by Tatsuo. The place was kept clean and tidy and had daily housekeeping between 10-4pm. The main highlight was Tatsuo and wife Yoshiko's hospitality and tourist recommendation. They welcomed me with warm energy and made me feel at home away from home.
Since I had a medium term stay, I personally liked to balance between eating out and buying ingredients from the easily accessible supermarkets nearby however the only slight downside was not being able to use the kitchen. It was quite small anyway and I understood it was mainly for personal use for Tatsuo as he was also staying there most days. Nonethless, all guests are provided a communal microwave and fridge to store food and use to eat privately in their room or common area. I stayed for 3 weeks, and found myself missing the use of a kitchen towards the end. I also found that the wooden interior tends to soak up the heat in the summer, so early mornings can feel quite warm quickly in the room

The staff are very helpful and welcoming towards foreigners. The washing and drying machines were great and inexpensive to use. I never ran out of clothes. Located in a quiet neighborhood. It's the perfect place to experience authentic Japanese life, including the long commute times and the infamous rush-hour trains.
The location isn't ideal. Walking to the train station can take up to 15 minutes, as you'll also need to use stairs to cross the train tracks. Even at a young age, it was very tiring for me. Also expect a travel time of around an hour to reach major city centers like Shinjuku and Shibuya. The room was quite cold due to poor insulation. The shared bathroom area and hallways were also very cold. You might want to reconsider staying here during the winter months.
