You need to like being a little remote and make sure you have a car. In that case this location is great, waking up with the birds and a view over the landscape. The owner is a great host, he is very friendly and helped us a lot.

We had a double booking on the last night. But the owner arranged for us we could stay in another great hotels in Granada, so we were pleased with that. Be aware: there is some picture of breakfast on booking but this is not/can’t be included.

Booked late at night, at the very last minute to solve a travel emergency -- it's a lovely place, and the staff went well out of their way to be helpful.

Casa Grande de Zujaira is a real gem. My partner and I spent two nights there in early September on our travels around the south of Spain and of the many beautiful places we stayed in, this was far and away the best. Our hosts Luis and Begonia, have brought the house from the verge of dereliction to its current state. The house is set well back from a quiet village street and is approached through a garden of shady trees. Stepping into the cool entrance hall from the mid-day heat there is an immediate feeling of calm and relaxation. The simple beauty of the house is striking. It has been restored in a truly sensitive manner with the original crafted features of the house being given new life but not at the expense of 21st century comforts. Beds and bedding are of the highest quality and the shower could knock you down. Large modern canvases hang throughout the house many of them the work of Luis’ father. there is nothing flamboyant just a quiet elegance in this spacious airy home. This was originally the summer residence of a wealthy Granadian landlord family. It was built to be cool, to provide an outlook over the family’s estate of olive groves and for entertaining. It is wonderful that Luis and Begonia have re-instated it for cool entertaining. On the morning we were leaving, preparations were underway for a wedding party from California. The courtyard was draped in shade cloth, tables set up by the 450 year-old mulberry tree and the large water trough brimming with crystal clear water with floating flower petals. The gardens have lots of shady spots to chill. Luis has had advice from one of the gardeners at the Alhambra and has planted hundreds of trees of interesting species. The Paulownias and Magnolias are thriving. Granada is a busy tourist city. This is the perfect place stay if you want to avoid the hubbub but want to visit the Alhambra or stroll the streets. Its just 30 minutes by bus to the city centre and costs less than €2. We'll be back!
