We’ve travelled to many places around the world, and we can honestly say — this island, this town, and this accommodation instantly became one of our all-time favorites. First of all, the entire area is incredibly beautiful and peaceful. The sea is just a short walk away, and you can swim almost anywhere. Two nearby towns — Jelsa and Vrboska — are both absolutely charming and easily reachable on foot. For us, the calmness and serenity of this area were everything. The apartment itself was spacious, spotless, cozy, and full of character. There’s a lovely terrace at the entrance where you can enjoy the sunset, and inside, a large balcony stretches across the entire width of the apartment. There are two charming bedrooms and a bathroom that seems to have been recently renovated. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking, and the Wi-Fi connection was very fast — a big plus. Our host was incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful — we truly felt welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. We’re especially grateful that we could stay here with our dogs. It’s not always easy to find such a beautiful, pet-friendly place, and we truly felt at home.

Our experience was a 1/10. But I'm trying to factor in what the apartment could be without the sewage problem and the very poor online service (the man on location was very nice). Great location near the water. Bathroom is designed incredibly well (except the plumbing). Kitchen does a lot with a small space (but using the sink does put your head against the ceiling). Larger bedroom is beautiful and roomy (but the translucent shade in the skylight kept us from sleeping in there. Air conditioning unit worked well (but is in the living area and has trouble impacting the bedrooms, which have no fans).

The sewage gases were a massive problem. The owner said they recently switched from private septic to public sewage, and they could not fix the sewage gases while we were there. I should note that it was not just the smell. Yes, the smell was constant and unpleasant, but the sudden massive emissions of fumes were the major issue. At different times, there would be sudden noxious fumes that filled the whole apartment. It was a choking gust of sewage gases (plus, keep in mind that methane is odorless). In order to breathe safely, every door and window had to be opened immediately. It took up to 30 minutes to clear the air (also using a fan we brought). The man living on the bottom floor and politely explained the new issue with the plumbing. He brought us local lavender oil for the smelll, a kind gesture that did help when the smell was only mild. But after the 5th or 6th massive gas emission, we were ready to leave our 10-day stay early. Unfortunately, the contact through Booking (he said he was the son), did not respond to our request. With the €1300 euros prepaid, we could not move without a response. As checkout finally approached, the online contact said guests would not even receive a discount for the disgusting and dangerous plumbing issue (we were hoping a partial refund would pay for a couple of nice nights elsewhere so our Jelsa stay could end on a good note). He said the apartment was "exactly what the pictures showed" - ignoring the sewage issue despite several detailed explanations. So our stay was quite bad. However, if they can fix the plumbing, and if the online contact is replaced, then the apartment shows promise. The location really is amazing. The beds were comfortable. The skylight in the living room has a dark shade (they need that in the bedroom). The man living on-site was really friendly. In summary, our stay was a 1 star. I think others could have a 9 (hence the 5 rating we gave).
