Basiliscus

First, Vincenzo is seriously one of the most genuinely-kind people ever to work in renting out holiday rooms! :) What a host! :) He offered to change our towels nearly every day!-- and he made sure to check-in with us nearly every day as well to see if all was ok/if we needed anything (*honestly, at first I was surprised, but then I realized he genuinely cares so much and THAT felt so nice, reassuring! Such a pleasant "extra" - such "customer service!" ;)) By the time we left, we felt like we had "friends in Sternatia" :) ... On top of this rare, unexpected, and appreciated human aspect, the room itself (we ended to have the lower level studio/room) was SUPER CLEAN w/fresh, quality linens. The overall ambiance is that of a modern renovation of a historic space (it was actually an old church long ago with a very high vaulted ceiling). There is an air conditioner that worked so well we never had it under 25! The bathroom had a walk-in glass shower (mini shampoo & hand soap provided). Sternatia is this little, sleepy "historic" village about 15-20mins drive south of Lecce, in the middle of countryside area. Parking was free and totally available just in front of apartment/around the central piazza/plaza. There is also Plaza Cafe (for coffee and sweets and aperitif) just in front too (who are very nice as well!) :)) Overall, I felt like this was such a remarkable value for the comfort vs price ratio (it is a spacious, private room with direct-entrance-from-the-street, not an apartment and not inside a building where you must walk down a corridor). For anyone with limited mobility, I would think it would be a great option (there is only 1 small step to walk up to enter and inside the room is easily 30 sqm, if not more).

FYIs which may matter to some : - There are no actual windows that "open for fresh air" -- there are two glass window panes on the doors that allow you to see outside/let natural sunlight inside, but they don't actually open for air (it is seemed likely due to the restriction on renovating such a historic space where there simply were no windows in the old structure/for shade in the hot months)... - There is no actual place to eat if you want to bring food into the room (although there is a table, there is only one chair; but there is a little mini-fridge). - The bed frame was super cute/pretty/fit the decor, BUT in METAL, with the metal springs underneath, so it was VERY squeaky anytime you even touched it -- and the bed mattress was too hard for my little one, she complained to me about it (I found it to be nice and firm, which I liked; I am a medium-sized adult). - Keep in mind, the door of the room opens directly onto the street/plaza area and so outside noises sometimes started as early as 6am (men arriving for working on the streets, trucks with movement of goods, people walking by talking, some people even knocked on the doors to see if it was being "used," etc,) can be heard, so if you are a lighter or late sleeper just know there is the potential for this...we are night owls so it was not particularly nice to be woken up at dawn each morning by men saying hi to each other across the plaza -- but well, THAT IS village life! ;) - Like older spaces/in the countryside, there were little black "drain moths" which did not bother us really (we were not really in the room except to sleep) but they did gather and fly around a bit after a few days and required Vincenzo to come with some product that helped to reduce them! :) Again, it's the countryside and they are harmless.

La camera è davvero suggestiva, ricavata in una vecchia chiesetta con ancora alcuni affreschi nelle nicchie e un bellissimo soffitto a cupola in pietra. Arredata con gusto, molto spaziosa, pulitissima e ben illuminata, dotata di tutto il necessario (aria condizionata, mini frigo e asciugamani puliti). Il letto è molto comodo e, nonostante il bagno sia piccolo, risulta comunque funzionale. La posizione è tranquilla, comoda per girare il Salento e con vari servizi nelle vicinanze. Un ulteriore plus è il proprietario, gentilissimo ed estremamente disponibile.

Unici aspetti migliorabili: l’assenza del Wi-Fi, le tendine esistenti sono poco coprenti (la privacy verso la piazza non è sempre garantita), l’aggiunta di una zanzariera per evitare l’ingresso di insetti.

Struttura pulita e accogliente. Host super disponibile! Posizione in pieno centro!

Manca il wi fi, vista là carenza di linea telefonica sarebbe stato ottimale.

Lo que más me gustó fue la ubicación, al lado del centro. El personal fue muy amable y atento.

Que no tiene parking (son muy pocas plazas y las ocupan los coches de CARABINIERI) y para aparcar es complicado y además casi todas las zonas son de pago caro. El baño es pequeñísimo, y la ducha muy vieja y sucia. El desayuno pésimo. No tiene absolutamente de nada.
