About this cottage rental

This lovely Detached Holiday Cottage is set within pretty surroundings, and close to amenities. Be it a relaxing holiday or taking in the many places of interest there is something for everyone.

This area is known as the Seven Valleys .Only 90mins from Calais,
30 mins to Le Touquet and the best beaches along the Cote de Opale.
Montreuil sur Mer made famous by Victor Hugo LES MISERABLES is only 20mins away and Abbey de Valories and gardens is 10mins.

Just 10 mins away, is the to the market town of Hesdin, with Supermarkets, shops, restaurants, sports centre with indoor and outdoor pools and garages. We also have a bakery delivery each morning just outside the cottage.

First renovated in 2010 the cottage, the owners regularly update it between seasons and provide an on site maintenance if needed.
The cottage still retains its original beams, and now has all the comforts of modern day living, including double glazing, electric heating, and for the cooler nights, a wood burner.
Wi-Fi is provided along with Satellite TV with 5 English Channels.

The cottage is in a relaxing setting with a patio garden on one side and another large seating area with BBQ on the other side under the shade of a Walnut tree.

The cottage is ideal for couples .
Our property borders the Somme Region with its vast History, hence those interested in both ancient and 20th century events are well catered for.
Crecy, Agincourt, Arras and the Vimy Ridge and the battlefield of the Somme are all within easy reach, as is the Atlantic Wall and visitor centres including La Capole. Should you wish to travel further afield Paris (day trip by TGV from Arras), Lille and Lens (new Louvre museum) are all in easy travel distance.
There beaches along the Cote de Opale are beautiful and each year host a kite festival at the end of April.
For those interested in antiques and french furniture, the Brocante season starts in April with many treasures to be found.

This area has something to offer everyone. You will not be disappointed and there is space to simply relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside.

Beautiful little cottage. Cosy, compact, comfortable and well equipped. Nice external seating areas in the hosts well maintained country garden. Very peaceful location in a small, quiet village but within a short drive/ easy access of the surrounding areas. Plenty to see and do within an hours drive or less. We had a lovely time staying at this wonderful place. After our original plans got turned upside down Irene and Norman made us feel at home in a second. We booked on really short notice, not even a day, but it worked out perfectly fine. The house was well equipped and we found everything we needed. There were even two little outside seating areas we could use during the whole stay. Our dog Cooper was also very welcomed. Just outside the gate we could step into the fields for our lovely morning walks. Nothing is really far away from this place and both of the landlords had plenty of suggestions for our trips! We can highly recommend to ask them!

Set in the beautiful village of Tortefontaine is this little haven of a property. Irene, Norman and Charlie the dog were extremely welcoming. The place and surroundings are just perfect for a quiet relaxing stay. We will look forward to returning!

A lovely spot and very quiet but within easy reach of various locations property is very well equipped with everything you could need and clean. Hosts are very knowledgeable about the area and helpful and Charlie the dog is lovely would definitely recommend.

This property is immaculate. It is extremely well supplied with everything you could need, clearly a lot of thought and effort has gone into ensuring this. The bed is very comfortable. The cottage is perfectly equipped, functional and delightfully decorated. There is a small, peaceful garden and a picnic table under a large tree for hot days! A plus for the high quality mattress (for weak backs!) Irene and Norman are charming, discreet and gave us plenty of suggestions for outings and visits. A valuable address to keep!

Hosts live on site and are friendly but not intrusive (Also have Charley the dog which is a bonus). Property is small but well equipped and furnished and is impeccably clean. Also you have a private garden area and access to rest of grounds to hide from sun. Location is quiet but beaches and towns easily driveable within 10 to 35 minutes so all options covered. Would certainly recommend.

We spent one week in the lovely cottage and we enjoyed eyery day of it. The size is perfect for a couple and you find everything there you may need. We slept well and the nights were very quiet. Norman and Irene were perfect hosts and had a lot of recommendations for us. And we fall a little bit in love with Charlie, the dog, who lives also on the property nearby. We can recommend the cottage of Norman and Irene and would like to come back one day.

We were welcomed by the host on arrival, who was very friendly and informative. The beautiful cottage is in a lovely peaceful rural area but is in close proximity to a small town and the coast. Our hosts couldn't be more friendly and helpful (especially with all the Covid regulations we had to sort out before our return to the UK!). I would wholehearted recommend and would love to stay here again.

We loved our one week stay in the beautiful area around Tortefontaine! Already at our arrival Irene, Norman and Charlie gave us a warm welcome. The house is very comfortable and lovely in every way. We usually finished off our days sitting outside with a glass of wine and a nice meal, enjoying the sunset and the nicely made terrace. It was so relaxing and calm, and there are plenty things to do and see, if on the countryside or at the sea. A lot of help from Irene and Norman in directions, restaurants and whatever you like to know. Thank you!

Lovely little place

Lovely little place

We spent a week here in mid-August with our seven year-old son. We had to drive around thirty minutes most days to find things to do for children as Tortefontaine is a small village. Norman and Irene were brilliant- full of local knowledge and directions to here, there, and everywhere (they even borrowed a PS2 from a friend because they knew we were bringing a young child!) The cottage was lovely and had all you could need (the patio with BBQ was beautiful, and if we'd had better weather we would have been out there every evening). We'd certainly recommend a stay, but make sure you bring stuff for kids to do in case of bad weather!

Nicely located . 30 mins from beach by car. Garden not private as you are over looked. It’s cosy but cluttered. Kitchen has everything but no washing machine. Owners are very pleasant with Charlie their friendly dog .

The cottage was really nicely decorated and maintained and equipped with everything we could have wanted. Tortefontaine is a charming little village, very peaceful and relaxing. Our hosts, Irene and Norman, couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We would thoroughly recommend Primrose Cottage and look forward to staying there again.

Tucked away in a lovely village in Northern France is Primrose cottage.Very well placed for visiting Beautiful beaches, lots of history and st Valery sur somme is wonderful. The cottage has all you could want,very well equiped and very clean. Norman and Irene are very welcoming and helpfull with information but with out being interfering. Hope to return again.

Norman and Irene were very welcoming and full of knowledge of local amenities and places worth visiting. The gite is set in a great location for accessing other tourist sites and main attractions. Nice touches, such as plenty of reading material, a barbecue and a wonderful bottle of red waiting for us on arrival. The gite is surrounded by trees that houses birds of various descriptions and have made it their home as well. I would recommend this place to travellers not wanting a long drive from Calais (only about an hour) and planning to see some of the northern west coast.

Just arrived home from 4 lovely nights stay and oh do i wish i was back there now, what a lovely peaceful retreat, and what charming people Irene & Norman are, not forgetting charlie the dog, who i could have brought home with me. Delightful little cottage and as cleaner place as i have ever seen, plus with all the mod cons you need. Easy reach of all the coastal towns of the somme estuary, and close for all the WW1 sites. I will return and will be recommending this to all my friends. Thank you for making us so welcome.

After going here for our honeymoon last year, we decided to return this year but for a fortnight this time. And it still wasn't long enough!! We were there for our first wedding anniversary, and on the recommendation of Irene and Norman we went to Monet's house and gardens. They even very helpfully booked our tickets for us on their computer. We explored all round and found some more favourite places especially St Valery sur Somme, which is beautiful and in very easy reach. This beautiful cottage is in an ideal location. There are lovely restaurants in nearby Hesdin but then again the kitchen is so well equipped we didn't eat out much. The BEST place to go to to enjoy France! The cottage was perfect, beautifully and comfortably furnished with guests every possible need catered for plus being spotlessly clean. We thought we would spend most of our time in Montreuil but there was so much to do in the vincinity that we had no need to go far. The Abbey Gardens are not to be missed. Unfortunately my husband had a fall which meant going to A and E our hosts Norman and Irene were amazingly helpful with Norman driving us to hospital and sitting ffom 10pm till 5.30am on a hard chair in A and E incase we couldn't get a taxi back or it cost a lot! All was well. Thank you we will return and recommend to all our friends- what a find!

We came here for our honeymoon last August and it was so lovely we booked it for a fortnight this summer for our first wedding anniversary! Irene and Norman were superb hosts and very helpful and friendly - from telling us about the live action Les Mis to the magnificent pain frites on Berck beach. We are very much looking forward to returning again and again, best holiday ever!
