Lovely villa, amazing pool and fantastic views. A lot of stairs, so not for those who have mobility issues. Effective air con in every room. Location is very quiet so not much night life but that's the way we like it. Access is by a narrow track and a car is essential. Nearby beach had jelly fish when we visited it so ended up by staying at the pool every day. Which was fine by us, the pool is very large. Only draw back we found was the small, dumb TV. Bring a smart TV dongle such as a fire stick or Chromecast.

Stayed for an absolutely blissful week at this beautiful villa. Views are stunning. Pool size is a bonus with a couple of massaging jets. Perfect. Everything you would need for a fantastic stay is provided. What more could you want?

The house and the surrounding are supurb. In reality the view is more beautiful than the pictures. We were here the last week of October and we swam every day, the temperature was still good. We recommend this house, which is also very well equipped, for a vacation in a beautiful private setting!

We had two wonderful weeks on this wild island. Thanks to the very pleasant communication with Ares and also Katerina on site, we were well informed and taken care of. The house leaves nothing to be desired and offers wonderful views of the sea and mountains on three levels with the large glass doors and balconies. The weather was unfortunately very stormy and therefore sometimes quite cool, but we still used the fantastic pool almost every day. We enjoyed the peace and seclusion very much. In the evenings, we had several visits from wild boars and even foxes came to the pool from time to time. We would be happy to spend another holiday there and send a big thank you and all the best!

Fabulous house with amazing views
Fabulous house with amazing views
I find it very hard to find houses that combine location with great decor. It really matters to me that the interior is also lovely as we usually go 'out of season' for walking, so we spend a lot of time indoors in the evening where we enjoy cooking and having a fire. This house has everything. I can imagine it is also amazing in the summer, as there is a great pool and a beach below. I spent an enormous amount of time online trying to find the perfect spot and this was it. !! Ares answers everything promptly and helpfully and I am just sorry we missed meeting him.

Staying at this beautiful villa was a real pleasure. The Villa is well equipped, the views to the sea and the mountains are outstanding! If you are looking for a house in an absolut unspoilt and quit location, this is it. Exploring the island with almost no tourists was a pleasure- we will definitely return!"

This is an exceptional property, with fine views and a peaceful location. It is equipped to a high standard and for a rural area it has a very good internet connection. I have rented several properties in Greece in recent years and this by far the best. Highly recommended.

Living as Zeus in Mount Olympus
Living as Zeus in Mount Olympus
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks in Areshouse! We had it all: sunshine, thunderstorms, rain, which caused some magnificant effects into our views. Whatever the weather was, the villa was always cosy and gave us the feeling of being home (a very luxurious home). At sunny days we had a swim, maybe cold but a really proper swim. The house has many English tourist guides and books, so you do not have to bring your own!
We experienced some smaller issues (internet, shower), but they were immediately and effectively fixed. Many tourist attractions are reachable within a 2-hours drive. We fellt in love in the island of Evia: is feels very authentic, the people are charming and helpful and nature is stunning. The tavernas nearby offer good Greek food, reasonably priced and served with a big smile.
We really want to thank Ares, the owner, to gave us the opportunity of enjoying his beautiful villa! Also thanks to Dimitri of taking care of the practical things. For us it was definitely a big 5* holiday in every way!

One of the best villas ever!
One of the best villas ever!
This villa really is as good as it looks. It is spacious and very well equipped. Everything was very clean, including the good quality bed linen and towels. The villa is a few hundred metres down a good dirt track, off a quiet road between Nerotrivia and Dafni. The location is excellent, with superb views across the sea to the front, and to the mountains behind. There is hardly any traffic on the road, and much less on the track, so it was very quiet and peaceful. There is a long pebble beach at the bottom of the track, good for beach combing, and the water was very clean. The villa also has a large clean pool. The local village, Nerotrivia, is very small but has a baker, butcher and mini-market, although we tended to go to Politika a few kilometres further away, but with a lovely cake shop, two more bakers, and several tavernas at the beach (which again is pebbles. There are lots of good little Greek tavernas to eat at in North Evia - we didn't have a bad meal anywhere - although if you are in Chalkida and feel like a change, we had a really good Italian meal at In Bocca al Lupo (if I have the name right, anyway it's near the old bridge, right along the water front). Ares the owner of the villa was very helpful and prompt when we made our booking, and his associate Dimitris saw us to the villa, and was also very helpful. We only have good things to say - if you like Greece and you want a villa, Arethousa is excellent!

Total relaxation
Total relaxation
Our family of two boys and ourselves stayed at Villa Semele during early August. The villa was stunning set on the edge of a mountain. The villa was beautiful inside being furnished with high quality furniture and fittings. The best and most comfortable bed I've ever slept in abroad. I can't think of anything we needed whilst we were there that the villa didn't have. There were the basics in the cupboard so you didn't have to buy things like herbs or pasta straight away. Ares the owner was so helpful and you truly felt nothing was too much trouble.
The island is very quiet and totally unspoilt. We bought all our vegetables and fruit directly from the road side. The best feta cheese I've ever tasted! The local taverna in the village was fantastic with their own meat and produce. Probably the best greek food we have had.Very friendly also as were all the locals on the island.
We did spend a lot of time at the villa it was like having your own house. The evenings were spent often sitting star gazing and listening to the silence! The boys loved the pool and we always had to have a late night dip. The nearby beach was often deserted and we saw wild dolphin swimming one afternoon.
We did a couple of trips into the mountains to explore but mostly just chilled and enjoyed our spectacular surroundings.
This is the perfect place if you want to get away from it all with beautiful surroundings.
I am sitting looking at the rain out of window wishing I was sitting on the verandah looking at the sea in Evia.

The ultimate chill out!
The ultimate chill out!
The villa is beautiful, well equipped, with fantastic views of mountains and sea. The pool with hydrotherapy jets a real pleasure to use.
What makes this place so special is not only villa itself, but the friendliness of the local people, the excellent food in local tavernas as incredibly low prices, but above all Ares, who will do everything to make sure you enjoy your stay, even taking on our dodgy car hire company on our behalf!
The villa is beautifully clean, with a mid stay clean included. What was delightful was that there were so many staples left in the larder, we had no need to buy oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, rice, pasta, tea, coffee, etc, and we were escorted to a mini-market on the way to the villa, late at night, to find milk and bread for the morning.
The track down to the villa does take a bit of getting used to, it is probably good it was pitch dark when we first arrived, so we did not see the ruts until later! Hopefully the local council will eventually do something about it, I understand it is not for want of asking. Don't let this put you off, just part of local Greece!
Try Edipsos Thermal Spa for mezze, spa waters and massages, Nea Lampsakos for those Shirley Valentine moments watching the sun set over the water whilst being served great seafood, and Steni for a mountain village lunch - just watch out for the unmade up roads.
Or don't leave the villa at all, the temptation is just to lie back and enjoy the views!

Villa Arethousa
Villa Arethousa
Booking the villa was super easy and getting settled at the location was made fast and comfortable by the professional and friendly people in charge of the property. The location itself was excellent, with grand scenery in every direction and friendly little villages to get happily lost in day after day. The swimming pool was in constant use, too, and was both large enough for the whole party and in excellent condition.
The villa itself was in perfect condition, with bedrooms and bathrooms to spare and a perfectly fitted kitchen to be used at will. The opportunity to wash clothes and make use of the barbecue were welcome additions, too.
Getting around the villa by car was a bit of an adventure in itself, since the roads snaking through the mountains and villages were pretty narrow and tricky in places. The excellent location was well worth the effort, though, as the area around the villa was far more engaging and relaxing than any typical tourist location.
Our holiday was spent by the pool, in the streets of nearby villages and around the beaches and scenic routes dotting the island. The isolated location was perfect for our needs and the efficient yet friendly hosts made our stay as fun and easy as possible.

What a wonderful property. It has everything you need to make your stay comfortable and at the same time spoils you with the superb views, the tranquility. Staying somewhere where you can hear one car a day go by is a luxury.
The house is beautiful, so many windows and such a magnificent view from every single one. From dawn till dusk you can watch the sun rise and set. From one side you have the mountains and from the other the sea. What more can you ask for except for time to return again and again.

Villa Arethousa
This beautiful villa is set amidst 360 degrees of panoramic views of mountains and a view of the med in the bay below. The accommodation and scenery exceeded expectation, which we didn't think was possible! We were met by Dimitris on route to the villa to ensure that we didn't get lost and were fortunate to meet Ares, the owner, during our three week stay. Both men were absolutely lovely and reflected the generous hospitality and friendliness of the locals on Evia. Arethousa is very well equipped, clean and feels like a very loved place to be. The pool is amazing and so clean providing hours of escape from the heat of the day and the jacuzzi....... The local taverna in the nearby village of Nerotrivia is wonderful and there are many good restaurants if you drive a little further. This has been a most excellent holiday location and the villa guest book refers to the place as the 'eighth wonder of the world'. We won't argue!!

A lovely week
A lovely week
Villa Arethusa is a lovely villa in a truly magical spot. I was totally chilled within half an hour of arriving, sitting on the verandah with a glass of cold white wine. The house has 360 degree views of the mountains, fields and the sea and it's Peaceful with a capital P. The sunsets were beautiful and driving out to dinner in the evenings through the olive groves bathed in a pink hue was a moment I wanted to bottle and take home. The local people are very friendly and extremely helpful. This isn't a touristy island, in fact I didn't meet any English or Europeans or indeed hear anyone other than Greeks. The local taverna Bakoutis was my favourite, lovely food and wine and very relaxed and friendly. But there are other good tavernas nearby too. There are lots of places to go for walks if that is your thing, all the way along Dafne beach and back was nice and also the lower slopes of Mount Dirfys which are forested and so shady when the temperatures are high.
Ares was so helpful with all my queries before travelling and Dimitris so hospitable on arrival and even invited me to share some new dishes in a local ouzerie which I would never have tried had I been on my own. The views from the master bedroom are particularly gorgeous and such a lovely sight to wake up to. I will certainly be back to Villa Arethusa (I can't wait).

Villa Arethusa
This is an ideal get-away-from –it-all villa. It is secluded, and just far enough off the beaten track to satisfy most would be recluses.
It truly is a matter of having your cake and eating it, as you are a very short drive from beaches, shops, and probably the best meat taverna you will find in Greece…or anywhere else!
We spent two lovely weeks (mid to late June 2011), and whilst we did get out and about, we were always glad to get back to the superb views and the very large swimming pool.
The villa is very well equipped, and had everything you could want or need to cook for a large family. It is finished to a very high specification, and the décor and ambience
is a credit to the good taste of Ares, the owner. Yet it still retains a very comfortable and “homely” feeling, and we instantly felt at ease there.
It was an additional pleasure to meet Ares, who is a perfect host…. Very helpful, and full of information about the local area. There is also a well stocked library, full of maps and guide books, and a very helpful and comprehensive manual of the villa that is a mine of useful information on just about everything.
I can’t recommend villa Arethusa highly enough….Thank you, Ares, for the pleasure of your lovely house……….We’ll be back!

This villa is set on the beautiful island of Evia (Euboea) and is simply fantastic. The views, setting, facilitates and atmosphere are all top notch. An ideal get away from the bustle of London. It is very convenient to the main land and is only a 90 minute drive from Athens Airport. The only “downside” is that if you do not have a car you will not be able to go and see very much as it is very isolated. If you do have a car then it is perfection itself.
I can not recommend the local taverna more. The food and wine are superb and combined with excellent service from the friendly locals it makes an ideal spot for dinner. It also doubles as a butcher with local meat at unbelievable prices.
Ares too is the perfect host, nothing is ever too much. I can’t wait to go back.

My danish Fusion Family loved the villa
My danish Fusion Family loved the villa
We spent a very nice week in the villa. I loved to wake up in the moorning in the master bedroom watching the sea from the bed on my right side and the mountain with the sunrise on my left side.
We had 5 children with us, 11, 13, 15, 15 and 18 years old and they enjoyed the pool and the ground where they could play with a disc.
The villa is beautiful and works perfect with the children sleeping at the lower floor, the master bedroom at the top. The middle floor where the natural place to meet and gave everybody room for a little privacy.
The little town (Taverna + Supermarket) 30 min by foot to the villa, do NOT take VISA CARD, so bring cash with you. Neither does the shops in the next couple of villages you meet.
The taverna in the village has burgers on the menu, which will make most children happy. But a greek burger is not in bread bunes with salat, onions, meat etc. it is ONLY meat with fries. Now you can prepare your children if you are going.
The next town Politika has a very wonderful shop with different delikatesses where we bought homemade ice cream. Very delicate.

Evia, a million miles away from Athens
Evia, a million miles away from Athens
We came to Arethousa after two weeks in two other Greek islands - so far away and also so vastly different. No other tourist & total seclusion. In many ways real Greece.
The property is fully equipped for anything or everything that you may need, everything had already been thought of & provided. The pool was a treat. Watching the birds every day swwoping down to sip the water was a constant source of interest.
Nearby Nea Trivia taverna was essential - to sit amongst real greek families doing what they do normally - was a privilege. Nearby Dafni was worth a visit, and so was the beach at Paralia (go to the taverna on the RHS next to the campsite mid week & enjoy dinner by the beach with very few crowds & watch the sun set...or go there at the weekend & be trampled in the rush).
All in all, simply a slice of heaven.

We were searching for a secluded and quiet retreat for a relaxing week in the sun. We found the perfect location in this property, The villa is designed to appeal to the senses with wonderful views from all aspects, especially the master bedroom which is a delight. The gardens are planted with herbs and flowers that fill the air with scent and swimming in the pool while the sun goes down is unforgettable.
The villa is very well maintained and equipped to the highest standards. It feels homely, comfortable and is stylishly furnished, It is also very clean which tells the customer that they are valued,
The highlights were many but those that stand out are watching the bats come to feed and swoop to drink out of the pool.... swimming at sunset.... sitting in complete silence in the dark with the moonlight shining on the sea..... waking up to the incredible light over the mountains....
We did go out once and drove to the other side of the island where the coastline is specatacular., I loved al the beehives which can be seen along the way... How do the bees know which one to return to ?
Staying here was an unforgettable experience and we would especially like to thank Ares for his warm welcome. We were escorted us to the villa via the supermarket which very helpful and this made the start of the holiday effortless. Ares has the perfect approach to ensuring the holiday experience is as good as it can be .
We will certainly return.

This July I spent my summer holiday at Villa Arethousa for the third time in as many years, and can only recommend it. This is why:
* Beautiful & peaceful location - perfect for relaxation, especially for those of us leading hectic urban lives!
* Huge private pool with a view of the sea
* A stylish, spacious, contemporary & practical interior, and it's clean inside!!!
* Great facilities for cooking at the house (although there are some very high quality, no-nonsense options for eating out in the vicinity)

The Villa is the perfect retreat if you are looking for undisturbed nature but at the same time are unwilling to compromise on the basic luxuries of civilisation. It is a piece of fully equipped heaven in one of the most beautiful and serene parts of the world. The house - and the area - does offer everything it claims and more; the pictures really do not do justice to the place. You have to be there to fully appreciate the tranquillity and the views, the warm evening breeze on your skin or the many wondrous scents and sounds of the flora and fauna that inhabit the garden. Looking back on the week we spent there at the end of July – next time we are definitely coming back for at least two – our most pressing issue seemed to be whether to cook dinner at the house from the deliciously fresh, local ingredients we picked up and dine by the pool lights – the villa’s kitchen, by the way, as noted by my husband, a hobby chef who takes cooking very seriously, is perfect in every way and believe me he likes to run a tight ship – or go to the Taverna in Nerotrivia and enjoy the amazing food and outstanding service offered by the family running it. Once here you will understand the dilemma.
Ares, our truly wonderful and charming host, whom we had the pleasure of spending an evening with, has managed to create a secret hideaway we fell in love with as soon as we arrived. After a sixteen-hour drive from Budapest we were so taken by the villa that we could not go to sleep before having a refreshing dip in the pool and a drink on the terrace watching the garden come to life at the touch of the morning sun (I have never in my life seen so many gorgeous butterflies!). And this is really what you do here: admire the small wonders of nature that you never notice (or can never see) on your way to work and enjoy the simple pleasures life has to offer.
On the other hand we did come with three teenage daughters so I was a little worried about what they might say to all this peace and quiet. To my delight they had the time of their life; whenever they had enough of poolside lounging and craved a little more action we took them to the Taverna, Dafni beach or to Halkida. To sum up I can truly recommend Villa Arethousa to anyone looking for quality accommodation, breathtaking surroundings, friendly locals and an unforgettable holiday with or without the family (call me selfish but next time I would like to come back on sort of a second honeymoon). A wondefull villa fully equipted and as good as the pictures promise. We spend a wonderfull week in the house, our 3 teenage sons loved it ( 17,13,10 of age). It is remote yet still close enough for sightseeing. You need a car, but then you are fine. Excellent service from Ares who was there to welcome us and help us find our way through our first shopping and the whereabouts of the local shops and tavernas.

Villa Arethousa is a peaceful and very luxurious vacation destination.
What we loved most were the tips that we have received.
These got us immediately into the groove of this authentic touristless Greek village.
Although the Villa is fully equipped with AC and the temperature was hitting 40°C, we were able to keep cool with the help of a strong Norderly gale.
I can only recommend this property.

The description of the property and the location is spot on. It is possibly understated as we never tired of taking in the fantastic views and as a place to enjoy peace and quiet to completely unwind it is unrivalled in our experience.
Ares has an attention to detail that is second to none and will only use high quality materials and products in every thing he does and this is evident in the fixtures and fittings in Villa Arethousa.
The pool is a fantastic size, the best we have seen in a single villa. The property is immaculate and maintained to the highest standards.
Ares is extremely friendly, helpful and brilliant company and Demetrius is just as good if Ares isn't around.
The perfect place to catch up on your reading with nothing to disturb the peace. We have now been twice and may go again later this year. No where else compares once you've been here, we made that mistake last year in Spain.
We didn't review it last year just in case it got completely booked up this year. But we have do be fair to Ares, he deserves it!

What a wonderful retreat to find hidden amongst the olive trees on the hillside.
Althought the sunshine didn't appear until midway through the week in Arethousa we used the opportunity to explore Evia and found out the true meaning of unpaved roads on a visit to Pili & Limnionas; certainly not for the feint hearted.
Thankfully the sun then appeared & ensured the rest of the week was a chance to relax by the poolside & catch up on reading material.
The villa is furnished to a high standard & is very well maintained. The pool is superb and is better than the pictures, if that is possible surrounded by an established garden. It is in an isolated location but the feeling of peace & tranquility is second to none. It ideal for groups who are self sufficient as it is a villa designed for entertaining. It is also a perfect romantic retreat for two. We didn't eat out at all whilst we were there but the locals were all friendly and helpful and there were plenty of tavernas to choose from albeit a short drive.
The customer service provided by Ares and Dimitris was excellent. Dimitris met us as we arrived and showed us to the villa and ensured we were happily settled in. Ares kept us up-to-date by e-mail and we were fortunate enough to meet him before we departed on our final day, and had the opportunity to thank him personally for sharing his beautiful home.
