About this cottage rental
Gatehouse West on the Colmer country estate is a warm, cosy and tastefully decorated cottage. It is situated on the west side of the passageway that opens out to the large outdoor swimming pool. Very comfortably furnished, the cottage enjoys a warm, south facing garden and is perfect for couples and families wanting to have facilities but also to be in a peaceful and tranquil setting.
The stone built cottage is set in 28 acres of private grounds that include woodland, a fishing lake and meadows. There is a large communal heated outdoor swimming pool (open and heated late May to the end of August) and an indoor heated pool that is open all year.
As well as the woods and pasture there is a lovely walled garden giving children a safe place to play. It is also a peaceful and sheltered spot to read and relax. Colmer is centrally situated in the heart of the South Hams, an area of outstanding beauty, within easy reach of attractive towns such as Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Modbury. Beautiful beaches and envigorating coastal walks are within 20 minutes drive and Dartmoor National Park is just 8 miles away.
This is a wonderful holiday destination with fantastic facilities on the doorstep and many places within the extensive grounds of this lovely location for those seeking peace and tranquility. The California Inn is only a short walk away, as is the local Spar shop which sells most things. This is a peaceful and tranquil environment for families and couples alike.

We had a lovely stay, warmly welcomed by our host. The onsite amenities were great particularly the swimming pool much loved by us. Great location next to a farm shop/cafe close to Modbury town.

Lovely cottage set in peaceful surroundings, well equipped kitchen, dishwasher and washing machine available. Everything you would need for a self catering break. Warm and comfortable with a good size bathroom and excellent shower. Good reliable free WiFi. The grounds of the estate are beautiful and worth a walk around. Used the indoor pool, which was nice and quiet. Tennis court is very good, used several times, natural shelter from the wind and elements, outdoor pool was shut and locked which was fine (open in the summer months) although this means you can't access the table tennis table. The fishing lake is probable three quarters covered in reeds and weeds which leaves very little clear water to cast into, as a keen angler it was a hard fish. Overall would recommend the cottage as a great place to stay. Some of the facilities on the estate though need a bit of work.
