The Portage Lion sits on 4 beautifully landscaped acres that was formerly part of a nursery. We're just 15 minutes from the University of Notre Dame and downtown South Bend and 30 minutes to Lake Michigan beaches. This renovated 750 square foot studio apartment sleeps two, is air-conditioned and includes a full kitchen, dining room, living room, and sleeping area with 1 bath. Wifi, Roku enabled TV, hairdryer, kitchenware, toaster and coffee maker are provided with rental. We have lovely mature flora, very large trees, a grotto and architectural hardscape features. Inquire about using the large blue-stone patio at the main house. Wander around and look at the features and check out our large vegetable garden! A very park-like feel. Other outside amenities include parking, swing set, and open spaces to play football, soccer, or just run around. For an additional fee this large apartment can accommodate 1-2 more on a sofa and/or owner supplied elevated full size air mattress.

Owners are on premises in a separate building and are happy to greet you along with their very friendly dog, Poppy.

Was in South Bend for a quick trip to visit my sister. Location was right across the street from the entrance to my sister’s subdivision. Beautiful grounds, the had a continental breakfast available in our refrigerator. Great tea selection and coffee for us. Will stay again next time I am in town.

Everything about this property was enjoyable and accurate. Comfy bed, stocked kitchen, cozy living and dining area, secure and easy to use door lock. Beautiful area to sit outside and relax. 20 min or less to anywhere we wanted to go. Would definitely stay again.

We had a fantastic stay, the property was exactly as described, spotless, well maintained, tastefully decorated and has everything you need, the fridge was even stocked with a complementary breakfast and snacks, the owners are really nice. I highly recommend this property to anyone asking for a quiet retreat and a convenient location, I would definitely book it again.

This studio unit is so spacious, with a large living area, large dining area, good-sized kitchen with lots of cabinets and cooking/food prep needs, and large sleeping area all in one room, which is part of a large building on the owner’s 4 acre property. The only room not in the studio is a not-very-large bathroom. We never saw the hosts, but knew they were around if we needed. There was another little cottage which was also rented out for the weekend, but we never saw them either. The host was responsive to communication, and provided coffee pods, tea, English muffins, jam, cream, and yogurt. All in all, a good little getaway spot, which actually wasn’t all that little!

Our stay at the Portage Lion was great. We had every thing we need and more for our visit to the area. We come to the area often as our family is there. Tim and Suzanne were great hosts. They had some breakfast foods in the fridge for us which was very nice. We will be remembering this place for our future visits to the area. My only complaint was we didn’t find it sooner.

I was traveling solo for a bridal shower and was fortunate enough to find The Studio available. The space is quite large and felt very private yet it is situated close enough to the hosts that I felt quite safe. The gardens are lovely, the bed was super-comfortable and the hosts, Suzanne and Tim, could not be any more friendly! They also provide coffee and a continental breakfast! I will most definitely be back!

Owners are on site and easy to communicate with. All instructions were posted on the fridge. Everything worked well and the home was comfortable. Beautiful property; we walked the property one morning and looked at the gardens. Kitchen was well stocked and the continental breakfast was a sweet touch!

This location has a great property. This was our second time staying here and I chose this property for it's cleanliness and kind hosts. We got to check in a bit early thanks to Suzanne, and they provide a nice little breakfast with your coffee so you don't have to go out first thing in the morning. Will choose to stay again, and highly recommend to my family traveling nearby!

My husband and I decided last minute to catch a Notre Dame Women’s Basketball game and see our daughter play in the pep band. This was the perfect place to stay. It had everything we needed for our short stay and was within an easy drive to campus. We’d definitely stay here again.

The property is beautiful, it is on a nice quiet road. The directions to get in are perfect from the owners. Lots of amenities within the unit for the studio. Fascinating old buildings to gander at on the property too if you like architecture and history. Complementary little breakfast was very sweet and helpful to get us going. Thank you!

The owners Tim and Suzanne are fantastic hosts! The studio is located close to Notre Dame and was very convenient to attend an ND game. The bed was super comfy. It was great to have a full kitchen (except for dishwasher). It would have been nice to have instructions for the TV. Highly recommend.

This was a very clean and nicely furnished studio. It was near Notre Dame and several downtown restaurants, so perfect for my husband and I for the weekend. It was a little complicated to find, but the host's check in email was very thorough so we were able to get there after re-reading through it! There was yogurt and granola, kuerig coffee pods and a lovely loaf of chocolate chip bread in the fridge for us. The kitchen was fully stocked with utensils and the backyard area was really nice. The only negative is that the studio is connected to some kind of garage/storage facility so there was quite a bit of banging noise and loud talking coming through the walls, but that was all during the day and the room was very quiet while we were sleeping. If we're in the area again, we would definitely stay here, but maybe in the cottage as it's separate from the garage units.

This property was located close to so many attractions and restaurants. It was very clean and well stock if you plan on cooking/eating at the studio. A continental breakfast was also furnished which was an unexpected treat. It was nicely decorated and very quiet. Would highly recommend to anyone who plans to be in this area.
