About this villa rental
Beautiful Manor House, with 400m2, very private, also extremely well located for excursions both up and down the Costa Verde being about 120km from Spain and 20km from Oporto. If you like dining beside the River Douro at Ribeira, 20 minutes it's how long it takes once you get use to the roads. Outside there is a 10 x 5m swimming pool, toilet, shower and a large covered sitting area, which is useful during peak sun hours where you can enjoy your meals and watch the kids in the pool. If you prefer the beach, Praia D'AREIA is only 2km down the road where you also find small shops, restaurants and supermarket. Bigger supermarkets, restaurants, boutiques etc are available 5km in the town of Vila do Conde, including the famous 'MARKET' on Friday morning. The grounds with 10000m2 are ideal and safe for children to run around. There are also orange, lemon and fruit trees in the garden from which, subject to season, you can help yourself and make lovely juices. Please note that prices are based on 10 people, extra charge per person up to 5 and open loft room, under 3 are free.
LATE ARRIVALS AFTER 21h OR OUTSIDE THE SATURDAY CHANGEOVER DAY HAVE A €25 CHARGE.
CENTRAL HEATING COST €180 per week.
TRANSFERS AND CATERING SERVICE AVAILABLE ON REQUEST, PLEASE ASK.
WE CAN ARRANGE FOR SURF LESSONS IN THE AREA: €40 pp. The class includes 2 hours of surfing, with all material included (suit and board), and transport by car from the accommodation to the beach.
We now have the METRO near us which can take you to various places, Airport, Vila do Conde, Porto city, and the F.C.Porto stadium Estadio do Dragao. The nearest station is VARZIELA or ARVORE or Line B ( red line) and it's 10min walk from the house.

We had 10 wonderful days at this house. It is even more beautiful than in the pictures. A great terrace with lots of opportunities for sports and fun. The landlords are super friendly and helpful.

O Refugio is a tremendous house for a large family holiday. We spent all July this year [2025] relaxing and appreciating all the facilities available to entertain us. The house is so commodious that we didn’t use 2 of the rooms downstairs and the house sleeps up to 15 people. Outside the dining area is covered to protect from the blistering sunshine and in this area are the table tennis table, table football and hot tub . The gardens are huge with Lemon and Oranges trees in fruit and also a pear tree ! The best feature outside is the pool which has shaded areas plus many loungers for sun bathing. Back inside you will find the house is fully equipped for family living with a comprehensive tooled kitchen and entertainment available in the lounge - TV , games, books, jigsaws etc.The house is fully secure with high walls and large gate and is located in non tourist area . The local patisserie is just around the corner , where daily baked breads and cakes are available.They also have Super Bock on draught !! As we drove to Portugal ,we had a car to pop down to Lidl [8 minutes away] , where everything is available including very cheap wine - 5 Litre box for 5 Euros !!The beach is a long walk away [30 minutes] and is OK but we preferred to stay at the house and gardens . The local Metro station is a 10 minutes walk away and it will whisk you to Porto in 20 minutes to see all the sights. Uber taxis are cheap as well ! A great place to stay.
