This hotel is all about the location. You are right in the national park on an island, surrounded by nature and incredible views.
I can understand the price, as the hotel is located in the Brijuni National Park, but they really need to step up their game. The hotel needs some touching up, and the staff could be friendlier.

The location of the hotel was excellent and the staff was very friendly. The sea view from the room was beautiful. It was clean.
The rooms and bathrooms were dated, we had some issues with the toilet which staff tried to fix. The breakfast was average. The hotel felt slightly on the pricier side for a 3* star hotel.

Location and staff
Very old furniture, doors are from before the 70s and are falling apart in some places, the same goes for the bathroom

Super friendly reception personel!
Amazing situation with breakfast and dinner by the water.
Great location on the island and nice prices for the rental bikes!
Very good dinner and good breakfast!
The island itself is amazing!
Unfortunately the AC in the Hotel Istra is aparently a central unit.
This meant for us that the AC “worked” in the room but that we could not change the temperature or strengh of it and that our room was 24 degrees hot all the time….
When talking to the reception, no alternative solution was given as they were booked out.
Just a mere “we are very sorry”…
After the second time of asking, they gave us a fan which helped a bit but it is not acceptable to not have AC when it is 32 degrees outside and you pay this price!
The “Parc view” was a view on a terrace for employees… No such thing as a parc in sight.

Calm and peaceful atmosphere, sea is cystal clear, beautiful nature for relaxing walks surrounded by animals. Hotel room was clean and decent.
Hotel, in general, could use a refurbishment. Food was ok, but overall it is average quality. Lack of labeling or explanation of the dishes could be problematic for people with dietary restrictions.

Very friendly staff, the food was good and location never disappoints.
Still getting thousand and one random emails/msgs before & after the stay, a nonsense time gap between the transfer to the island (12:30 fastest) and the check in (no way before 15:00), “a room away from stairs” was actually the first one next to, and the air conditioning (recuperation) just wasn’t strong enough to cool down a room on 3rd floor (was constantly 27,5-28 degrees in the room). Oh, and additional pity was the sea full of small jellyfish (non-harmful though)

We had a wonderful time in Brijuni, as we always do. The island never fails to impress us with its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. We truly appreciate the warm hospitality—the hotel staff were exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay. The room was very comfortable, well equipped, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
The bathroom floor could have been cleaner. Also, it seems that smoking is still allowed on the terrace during breakfast hours - it would be great if it was banned at least in one part.

HUGE room looking out onto the harbour. Very clean and comfortable, staff pleasant
Breakfast not great. Ideal for a 1-2 nights but with no shops or alternative food options it would be limiting despite the truly fabulous location

All the people who work there were great. Food is fantastic. Room is nice, and outdoor props, nature, sea are g r e a t !
Kitchen AC unit is turning off and on, non-stop for 24 hours, making loud noise right infront our room. That was baaad. Unit is obviously old and have no noise inuslation of any kind and just a placrment near the rooms is a disaster.

Location is excellent, Brijuni islands are gorgeous and the hotel is in the small port, but behind the hotel is woods and nature for beautiful walks. Several beaches are nearby. Breakfast is good, a lot to choose from. The same is for dinner. Fish dish is on menu every evening, besides other dishes.
The hotel is 3-star, old and like you are in the 1980-ies. There's no air-conditioning, except in some rooms. The prices are like it's 5-star hotel.

The Island is beautiful and definitely worth a visit
The staff at the reception desk is very friendly
The Hotel is definitely not worth the money it costs. The rooms were old and not up to standard and partly not cleaned properly (stains on the bed and stains on the towels) The bathrooms are terrible and look like they have not been renovated since the 50s. Also there is NO A/C in the rooms, just some ventilation system, which makes it impossible to sleep in the heat!
The staff at the Galija Restaurant is very unfriendly and lets you feel that they don’t want you there/they don’t want to be working there. The food is overpriced and does not taste nearly as good as it should for what they are charging. Also a 0,75l bottle of still water is almost 6€. (0,5 € at the store …)
The only good thing about the breakfast is the pancake machine.
The eggs are terrible and taste as if they’ve been standing out for hours. Not edible. There’s 3 types of white bread only and generally not enough variety in food. The coffee does not taste good.
The staff is also very rude and unfriendly. We asked one waiter which meat the cuts were to which he answered „well I guess you should know what that is“
There’s no signs or labels for the food whatsoever. So good luck if you have allergies.
We left a day early because we were just disappointed.
When we told the lady at the front desk that we were not pleased with the stay, she said she was very sorry and that she understood my complaint. So I’m guessing we were not the first VERY unhappy guests.
It’s sad to see so much unused potential. This island is truly a treasure but it’s seems that it’s only being used as a money grab! I would not recommend anyone to stay at the hotel. We will definitely not be returning!

Well, although the facilities are a bit outdated, the stay at the Istra hotel was quite comfortable and had that nostalgic touch. The location and the islands are stunning per se, so it makes the stay quite memorable and special. The breakfast is ok, but really enjoyed our dinner at the Galija restaurant. The food was good, but the staff was excellent!
Big thanks to Franjo there for taking such a good care of us!
All in all, I believe it is a reasonable price for what you get in return. It is truly a special place and going there is such a wonderful experience. Even the outdated areas give it a special charm!

Personally, the best place in Croatia you can visit. Untouched nature, no cars, not crowded (except around hotel), feels more like Africa then Europe with its big green fields with zebras and peacocks. Golf cars or bikes are a must to explore the island. Round of island is rougly 13km, everyone can find a perfect spot to enjoy. Will be coming next year also.
Nothing to complain about

This is THE way to experience Brijuni. Staying at the hotels on the island gives the entire experience a huge boost.

Big room, probably the biggest ever! I do not know about other rooms but this one (109) was roughly at about 40 m2… Wonderful view to the sea. Comfortable bed. Great bathroom. Everything very clean. Food was good, solid but not extraordinary… Excellent connection with the mainland (Fazana, 15 minutes by boat), safe parking in Fazana where one leaves the car.
Overall, the hotel needs some refurbishment (not our room!)… Brioni is nice but there is not much to do…

Everything’s perfect - our beloved island in Croatia, we were here also a couple of times last year and will definitely come back again, also this year. Friendly and attentive personnel, all speak good German and/or English, delicious food (both breakfasts and dinners) and house wine, a marvelous view from the rooms with a seaview. Mister Tito has truly chosen an incredible place for his private residence. Unique climate, various wild and domestic animals and birds, a lot of hidden paths to explore. Highly recommended to visit! When the last ferry with the group tourists leaves the island, you feel yourself being in an Agatha Christie’s movie (in a positive way!) ;)
