About this cottage rental

Hufflepuff Lodge is a two bedroom property that sleeps 4/5 people self catering.

Wake up to uninterrupted, panoramic countryside views as far as the eye can see in one direction and views straight across to St Michael's Mount and the sea in the other. Conveniently located on the A30 Coast to Coast road just outside St Ives, close to Hayle, Mounts Bay (St Michael's Mount is clearly visible from the windows!) and Penzance, you will find Hufflepuff Lodge attached to The Old Schoolhouse in Whitecross.

Hufflepuff lodge is fully equipped with the complete Sky Movies package, plus super fast Infinity broadband and a selection of family board games & books catering for those who prefer to stay in and just relax. Conversely, you will also find a selection of beach equipment, body boards and toys provided for you to enjoy when you're feeling active!

The open top bus in high season (closed top at other times) stops right outside Hufflepuff Lodge to St Ives, Hayle and Truro in one direction or to Mounts Bay, Penzance and Mousehole in the other so you don't even need to bother with your car if you don't want to!

The Star Inn, an award winning pub and home of the Penzance Brewing Company, is only a short walk away, as is a Chinese Takeaway (that delivers!), Spar shop for provisions and Post Office. There are a number of pubs and restaurants to choose from within a short 5/10 minute drive from the property or take the bus if you prefer to leave the car behind.

With many award winning beaches within very close proximity, such as St Ives, Porthminster, Porthmeor, 3 miles of stunning golden sands at Hayle, Gwitian, Marazion with St Michael's Mount, Sennen Cove, Praa Sands, Peranuthnoe... just to name a few, you'll be absolutely spoilt for choice. All of which are Life Guarded during main season.

Beat the crowds at high season by walking down to St Erth Station where you can get on the famous Lelant to St Ives train, pick the best seats before everybody piles on at Lelant (hot tip for you there!) and enjoy the breathtaking views on that famously scenic journey around the bay.

Easy access to the South West Costal path and there are lots of footpaths and Geocaching routes to enjoy right on the doorstep. The Tate Gallery, Jubilee Pool, Paradise Park, Sculpture Gardens and fabulous tea rooms are within easy reach and the stunning open air Minack Theatre, Lands End experience, Flambards and the Eden Project are just a short drive away.

For those who love to shop, Truro is only 20 mins away by car with all the big names you'd expect to see in any large city. It holds it's Farmers Market on Saturday mornings and Penzance has a Farmers Market on a Friday morning.

Hufflepuff Lodge is ideally situated as a convenient base, without any of the typically hair raising Cornish narrow lanes to navigate to get to it! An ideal location for convenient, quick and easy reach of all of the best that beautiful West Cornwall has to offer.

ProsNice to have a welcome pack of tea, bicuits. Wine etc.Cons I would recommend a car as the busses are sporadic. No way to get wet clothing dry. Suggest a heated airer, maybe a brolly. Tv is rubbish.

We stayed for a week and went out every day as the location was brilliant for accessing numerous places of interest. We went to Minack Theatre, Porthcurno beach, Kynance Cove, Lizard, Lands End / airport to visit Isles of Scilly via Skyplane. St Michael’s Mount, Marazion plus lots more ! We also went to Paradise Park as our daughter had a red panda experience booked which was amazing. I think the lodge must have been fabulous some years ago but whilst comfortable it just seemed to lack that looked after tender loving care. The bench outside at the front needs jet washing as it has all sorts growing on it and so we didn’t sit out there. The bed in the large bedroom maybe could do with a new mattress now and black out blinds at the windows would really help as we didn’t sleep too good. Also a lick of paint throughout would really freshen it all up. Love that it has a washer and drier in the utility room and the kitchen/lounge/dining area worked well for four adults. I think it is best suited for a family of two adults and two younger children. We were okay for a week and knew that the second bedroom was small with single beds and our adult daughter and partner pushed them together and said they were comfortable. Having said all that I think the price paid we paid for the accommodation in the location it is situated and for July was fair and reasonable. The hosts were very nice even though we only met them in passing as we were out most of the time we stayed.

Comfortable and well equipped, great views, right beside A30, good access to bus, but need to tell driver where the stop is when returning. Lots of birds around.

My overall impression was that the place needs some care shown to it to bring it up to a much better standard . The fact it’s up for sale may be reason it’s fallen below such a great standard we had read about in previous reviews . The welcome pack and location is the best things about this stay. The place is tired and needs updating . The barking dog in main house was annoying,Which the owners apologised for. The microwave, toaster , tap in kitchen all need replacing . The linen on our bed was poor quality, pillows were flat as pancakes. The off road parking is great but be warned of the potholes outside the drive . Sadly we would not stay here again .

This was a lovely stop on our recent trip to the UK! Wonderful & generous hosts always available if we had questions! Great location..we were close to all the places we wanted to see! Would stay there again if the opportunity rose!

I'd looked at this property for a few years and finally managed to have the pleasure of staying there last week and it did not disappoint. The main bedroom is so spacious, I felt very relaxed. It had everything needed for a wonderful stay - the welcome gifts were so thoughtful and the jam was delicious. The shed with the beach equipment was great as was the board games. I would highly recommend a visit there and I hope to return soon. Thank you Michael & Julie
