Wheat cottage, Chiddingly, spacious and well equipped character accommodation

We were mostly staying in the cottage to be close by our son & family in East Hoathly. The location was excellent, 5 minute drive away. The cottage is extremely well equipped and comfortable, and the hosts welcoming and helpful. We’ll be back.

Beautiful cottage, well furnished and fitted out to very high standard. We found it extremely comfortable and could not fault it in any way. The countryside location is attractive and wonderfully peaceful. Good pubs in local villages, close to Eastbourne and coast, with lots to see, do and walk. A great break.

Superb cottage and hosts. The cottage has everything you need. Very comfortable and very clean. Would highly recommend.

I was going to give 4 stars **** as I normally only give 5 stars ***** to something way beyond expectations, and as I have stayed in other wonderful self-catering accommodation, getting ***** out of me is probably impossible. (Katie says “Thanks , but I gave you 5 stars!” - how embarrassing - I had better upgrade to ***** but that is not to say there is no room at all for improvement).The cottage is very comfortable, roomy for two people, clean, well presented and well equipped, with loads of wardrobe and drawer space. The dining area cum sun room lets in lots of daylight which is really pleasant.We had the use of WiFi (good old PlusNet) but could not get mobile reception for our non-smart EE mobile 'phones. We are not sure how much extra it might have cost to provide the use of a landline 'phone in the cottage. We had to go to Katie's and Michael's farmhouse (very close by) to use their landline phone to call the local doctor. Katie was very kind and helpful in that she offered to give us a lift to the surgery at Buxted.We could not find a milk jug in the cottage, although there were two Pyrex measuring jugs of different sizes so used one of them. (Katie says “The milk jug is in one of the cupboards” so it seems it was our fault we could not find it.) The kitchen has an electric ceramic hob, not gas as stated, but that is not a disadvantage.The inventory of contents in the cottage needs updating (we did not break, lose or remove anything of the owner's contents - honest). (Katie says “No one else reads the inventory list , so that’s a first!” I thought I was meant to check the inventory item by item and report all discrepancies on first going into Wheat Cottage, and was worried that I had failed to do so :-( ) The bed was very large and comfortable, but if you are used to firm supportive pillows you might wish to bring with you the sort of pillows you are used to.Nearby there is a wonderful village community shop with a café, run by volunteers (of whom I was told Katie was one), selling all manner of things, including organic, & green options like Ecover. The shop should not say sorry for being closed all day on Sunday, the Lord's Day. It amazes me that the shop can get volunteer cover for the hours it is open Monday to Saturday as well as all the work involved in keeping a shop going, stocked and covering its running costs.We had a pleasant break with plenty to see and visit round about - thank you Katie and Michael.
