Villa Vonkale

Absolutely gorgeous spot, surrounded by forest and right on the lake. You have your own wood burning sauna (with a view) and exclusive use of a rowing boat. Around the cottage we found plenty of bilberries (European blueberries) we could pick, plus there were cute rabbits to feed and sheep. There’s a lovely nature trail around the woods and a small play area for younger children. There’s a fire pit and gas BBQ on the terrace. The cottage has everything you could need- washing machine and tumble dryer, dishwasher, plenty of TVs and a projector screen with dvd player. There are loads of dvds available but if you don’t speak Finnish you might need to take them out to work out what the film is. The beds were really comfortable, we hired bedding and towels and they were super cute moomin ones :-) Antti is really helpful and very responsive to messages.

Be aware it’s a 15 minute trip to the nearest supermarket so you’ll definitely need a car. Plus you need to be prepared to drive on dirt roads as the last few km are not paved. If you’re expecting total seclusion then you won’t get it as there are a small number of other cottages on site but that wasn’t a problem for us, there’s plenty of space between them.
