Greenwood Edge Kandy

The villa is located in a very quiet area, making it a great escape from city noise while still being only about 10–15 minutes from Kandy. The house is impeccable and very clean, with excellent attention to hygiene (for example, different sponges were used for different cleaning tasks). Water pressure in the showers is excellent, and the recently upgraded Starlink Wi-Fi worked very well. We also used the washing machine and dryer, which were reasonably priced. The beds were very comfortable, with soft mattresses and fluffy pillows.

We stayed for three nights in January 2026 and booked the entire villa. We were four guests and had a driver, to whom we offered one of the rooms. Upon arrival, all rooms were shown to us, but one unused room was immediately locked, which felt unusual given that the full property had been booked. There are five rooms, although not all have good views. Breakfast appears to have previously been a highlight, but our experience was disappointing. On the first morning, breakfast consisted of very basic items, which was noticeably simple compared to earlier reviews, to the point that we even took a photo to document the experience. While not terrible, it was certainly not a “highlight” or generous. The second morning was slightly better, with milk rice and side dishes, but overall breakfast remained average and limited. On the third morning, we chose to have breakfast at Theva, about a 10-minute walk away. Breakfast could also not be served before 6:30 am, which was unexpected as we prefer an early start as tourists. Overall, the property itself is excellent, but the experience was affected by a rather rigid and sometimes nitpicking caretaker approach. At times, it felt as though our use of rooms and amenities was closely monitored. The caretaker also appeared to use shared spaces while we were present, and on a few occasions we had to turn off or lower the TV when entering those areas. Unfortunately, the way we were hosted did not feel in line with the premium quality of the property, which was unusual for us, as our experience in Sri Lanka is often that hospitality exceeds the accommodation. Future guests may wish to clarify in advance how room access, shared spaces, and amenities are handled when booking the entire villa.

Heerlijk! Weg van de drukte van de stad, verblijf je in het groen op top van de berg, tussen de vogelgeluiden. Zeer propere kamers. Het ontbijt wordt geserveerd met vers fruitsap uit de tuin. De service is oprecht, vriendelijk, top!

Nice and recently refurbished hotel. Family room is nice and has two double beds. It has a nice bathroom, you can actually take a shower without getting the whole bathroom wet! Property is located next to a forrest in a very quiet and green area. You’ll hear nothing but animals at night. It is located on top of a very steep hill though.

The property is on top of a very steep hill. You will need transportation to get there. It is about 5km from downtown Kandy. Not necessarily a bad thing because you get a break from the busy city but it’s nice to know this. The curtains of the room are white and don’t block out the light at all.
