Situated in the centre of Confolens it was ideal for viewing the town. Secure underground parking. Early arrival, yet we were allowed to book in.

Location, staff, facilities

The hotel is situated right in the middle of the town and convenient for the International Dance Festival in August. We booked a larger room so that we would have two beds, and the room we had was not very big, but it was adequate. The bathroom was really good, small, but exceptionally clean. The tall window was double glazed. The rooms are very much 'rooms above a pub' style. The bar downstairs was convenient and we enjoyed sitting outside in the busy street from time to time. The coffee was exceptionally good. We did not take breakfast or dinner during our stay, but the dining room looked really elegant.

We stayed in the middle of a heat wave, so lack of air conditioning meant that we relied on a ceiling fan. This was our first experience of a ceiling fan and it was not effective once you moved away from directly beneath it. We have found that oscillating desk fans are much better. There was little movement of air through the open windows, and the noises of the street outside were disturbing, so we ended up with little sleep. Although the room was spotlessly clean, the furnishings were very out-dated, and would have been better if brought up to date. It was also unfortunate that someone had been smoking in the room on a previous occasion but there is very little the hotel could do to remedy that!

Very old fashioned establishment, 60's time warp - needs an upgrade. Limited restaurant choices - more emphasis on pizzas. Only 1 skewer on pork and veg skewers meal (overpriced). Room net curtain too small for privacy of window. Noisy location overlooking road. 2nd flour room - no lift. Limited space for 2 x cases. Ridiculous shower unit in cubicle, can't turn it on to get the right temperature unless you're in it as the unit faces out the cubicle door and even then it soaks the floor too. Room had a double and a single bed right up against each othet
