About this cottage rental

Mill House is a Grade II listed building of historic interest. Ground floor rooms have beamed ceilings and all rooms overlook the Mill Pool.

The cottage is situated right by the Mill Pool, a non tidal creek off the River Dart estuary.

You enter the house through a stone porch, which leads into the living room with the kitchen off to you right.

There is a small garden at the rear and a paved terrace at the front where you can watch the world go by as well as any activities on the Mill Pool.

The cottage, while being very comfortable and ideal for a relaxing holiday, is also well suited for walking, fishing, or a sailing holiday and there are beaches, coastal and estuary walks, and Dartmoor nearby.

Please note: because it is an old cottage the stairs are quite narrow, so if you are unsteady on your feet you will need to take extra care.

Crabbing at the edge of the pool is a particular favourite.

Upon arrival we found some areas of the house not as clean as we expected. The double bed could also use a new fitted sheet-it would appear to have shrunk over time.Overall our stay was very enjoyable and we loved the restaurants in the area. We did have a problem with the shower but Struan was “on it” and it was fixed as soon as possible. Thank you.

Our family of 5 had a wonderful short break at the Mill house. I can't fault it. It was clean and welcoming and had all that was needed for our stay. It's situated in a beautiful part of devon and wish we had the weather to enjoy the coastline, unfortunately it rained right through. We will definitely be returning in the summer.

The property was a lot smaller than anticipated, it was cozy for 4 adults and 2 teenagers but it was lovely. The location was amazing, we loved the mill pond and the little village. The kitchen was well equipped and clean and the garden was a great space to relax. The beds were comfortable but I do think the pillows is the master bedroom are in need of replacing. Also we noticed a faint drain smell in the bedroom after flushing the toilet in the en-suite. This didn’t ruin our stay though. Overall we would definitely recommend the Mill house.

Grew up spending summer holidays in the area so decided for a trip down memory lane. Lovely cottage and well located close to the Mill Pond. Very well stocked (other than shower gel, shampoo etc) and comfortable. Definitely recommend

From the booking to arrival, stay and departure were easy and straight forward. It is in a nice quite location with all the equipment needed. We had a relaxing stay with friends / family who all said they thoroughly enjoyed it and felt completely refreshed.

The communication was excellent. Allowed to extend our stay and also to enter the property early on the day arrival. The property was exactly as described and in a beautiful setting within a 5 minute walk to four pubs/restaurants and the well stocked village store. The neighbours were very friendly and gave a few helpfull tips. Main supermarket was under 15 minutes away. Lots of beautifull places to visit around South Hams. We had our own parking space along with a sign allowing another car to be parked in the adjacent car park. Overall a lovely peaceful place to stay with stunningly scenery. Recommend booking into the River Shack to ensure you get a table as is full over summer weekends.

Having stayed at this property before our impressions are still that it is well presented, clean and just as described. We all enjoy the area for both its quite relaxed atmosphere but still within easy reach of several ares for entertainment and food. Already re-booked for the summer.

My family and I had a lovely stay in Mill Cottage with great views of the mill pond and very close to the River Shack where we enjoyed meals and drinks. Stoke Gabriel is an idyllic Devonshire village and a must to go and visit! We had great weather which made the holiday even more enjoyable. Will definitely visit again!

The location was brilliant for seeing this part of Devon. The setting was absolutely fantastic, we never tired of the view or the peaceful environment. The accommodation was charming and well equipped. One or two things would have made this holiday home even better. On arrival it would have been helpful to have a small welcome pack containing fresh milk, coffee sachets, tea bags and buns/biscuits, as we have experienced in other holiday lets. We had not expected to have to provide our own toilet paper. I texted the manager about the diminishing supply but received no response, so purchased a pack. When I visited her that evening she said the shortage was because new cleaners were employed and it was their job to ensure an adequate supply. She offered to contact them so they could remedy the situation but we had already done this. It would have been helpful if she had explained this by replying to my text in the morning. She was able to provide us with a fresh bin bag on refuse collection day. In the main bedroom ensuite, the intermittent start up noise of the macerator at irregular intervals during the night when not in use was loud, annoying and disturbing. It would be really helpful to be able to turn this off when not in use. There were only 3 of us in the house. We think 7 would be overcrowded. I hope this is a helpful review for people considering this property.
