Despite some negetive issues, there were several things we genuinely appreciated about our stay. My room was very spacious, and we especially liked the separate lounging/sitting room area apart from the bedroom. The bed was large, soft, and beautifully dressed, which made for very comfortable nights. We also enjoyed the fresh garden area, which created a relaxing atmosphere. The gym looked well equipped and modern, even though we didn’t end up using it (partly because it wasn’t clear if guests had free access or needed to pay). Still, it was encouraging to see that the facilities were available. The overall vibe of the hotel was pleasant, and while not all, some staff members were very friendly and welcoming. Above all, we truly liked the comfort and layout of our room.
We recently stayed at Mika Kablonga and while the buildings and environment are generally good, we had several disappointing experiences that we believe the management needs to address. 1. Withholding Change On our first day, we purchased chips and sausage for 150 kwacha and paid with a 200 kwacha bill. The waiter promised to bring the 50 kwacha change later, but it never came. When I enquired the following day, another waiter also promised to bring it but never did. It was not about the 50 kwacha – I would likely have left it as a tip anyway – but rather the unprofessional and covert way it was withheld. Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident. On several occasions, staff claimed they did not have change and promised to return it later, but it often never came. This practice felt deliberate, and as a result, we began having most of our meals outside the hotel. 2. Missing Items from the Room We also noticed that $30, two new free-sized dresses, and half a bottle of Estée Lauder “Beautiful” perfume went missing from our room. We searched everywhere and, not wanting to accuse the cleaner who otherwise seemed friendly, we decided to let it go. Nonetheless, it left us feeling uneasy and disappointed. 3. Restaurant Service Incident On 15th, I ordered a plate of chips in the restaurant. Despite waiting patiently for almost 30 minutes, the food never arrived, and I had to return to my parents who were waiting for me. The waiter later brought the chips to our room but then insisted on charging an additional 50 kwacha for room service, even though the “room delivery” was only suggested after the unacceptable delay. To make matters worse, since the chips cost 45 kwacha and I had paid with a 50 kwacha note, I was told to “top up” with another 45 kwacha instead of receiving my 5 kwacha change. This was extremely unfair and frustrating. 4.
