Casa Nunziata

The house is located on a steep hill and boasts uninterrupted views over the countryside. Etna is visible in the distance. Surrounded by a lush garden where breakfast, lunch and dinner can be taken. We enjoyed touring South East Sicily from Mineo. Mineo is located on a hill itself and has a few good pizzerias and cafes. 1hour away from Catania airport, we arrived at night and it was still ok to find our hosts in the centre of Mineo to take us to the villa. Carmen and Damiano our hosts were very welcoming. The house is a family house dating from the 17th century, with all the necessary equipments to cook. The stove is somehow outdated and could do with being replaced. The bathrooms are modern and recently refurbished. The bedrooms on the first floor have amazing views over the surrounding countryside, the best part to this house is its garden. The garden is secluded, with mature trees and shrubbery. The terrace outside the kitchen is the space to sit and relax, you need to move a few chairs there and then you can enjoy an uninterrupted view with the cicadas serenading you. We recommend for anyone looking for calm, tranquility and seclusion. Especially with no Wifi, reading and farniente are de rigueur.

With some more improvements (such as the kitchen to be modernised) this villa could be amazing. Of course it takes time and money to do such a historic house up. We felt that it had been lived in from many generations before and has been slightly neglected with time.
