Welcome to Birkwood Cottage, a charming former gardener's cottage tucked away in a peaceful, leafy setting on the edge of Symington, South Lanarkshire.
Set within 3 1/2 acres of woodland and landscaped grounds shared with Birkwood House, built in 1905. The cottage has a garden of an acre of fenced/laurel hedge/ woodland and grass. The cottage offers a lovely blend of countryside charm, comfort and tranquility. Recently refreshed, it's a welcoming home from home where you can slow down, escape the everyday and enjoy a little breathing space.
Sleeping up to six guests, Birkwood Cottage is a wonderful base for exploring Scotland. Discover historic villages, enjoy scenic countryside walks, browse independent shops and sample local produce. Edinburgh and Glasgow are within easy reach for days out, while the nearby market town of Biggar and historic New Lanark offer plenty to explore closer to home.
After a day of adventure, return to the peace and quiet of the cottage, settle beside the cosy log burner and enjoy a relaxed evening with family or friends. Whether you're planning a walking holiday, a Scottish adventure or simply a few days away to recharge, Birkwood offers the best of both worlds: the freedom to explore and a tranquil retreat to return to.
We encourage guests to discover the flavours and character of the local area, from independent cafes and traditional pubs to farm shops and local food producers. Taking time to explore locally, support indendendent businesses and appreciate the surrounding landscape is all part of the enjoying this special corner of Scotland.

The cottage accommodates a maximum of six guests, offering a peaceful and comfortable base for your Scottish stay. Combining the charm of a countryside retreat with comforts that will make your stay feel special. Start your day with freshly made coffee in the bean to cup coffee maker, sink into a relaxing evening by the log burner before slipping into crisp hotel grade bed linen at the end of the day. Whether you're spending time together with family and friends or escaping for a peaceful break, Birkwood offers a welcoming place to relax, recharge and feel at home.

Guests are welcome to to enjoy the garden immediately surrounding the cottage and the tranquillity of its setting. The wider grounds are shared with Birkwood House, so we kindly ask you do not pass through any gates or enter fenced off areas.

We had a really great stay at this accomodation.The owners were excellent in communicating and offered us help and advice for every eventuality.The weather was very good for our stay so we were able to enjoy the very well kept gardens.My five year olds loved the woodland and we would all highly recomend this great cottage. (It is a lot bigger than the average cottage. Recently renovated. Warm and comfortable)

Birkwood Cottage is a wonderful place. We spent the Christmas week here, Fiona greeted us as we arrived and was very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was so clean and inviting and very well equipped. The dogs loved the garden area which was safe and away from main roads ( we have a spaniel!) We’ve had a wonderful break. X
