Ok. Food not great

The rooms were nice. The staff in the bar and gym and generally nice too. The rooms clean and a good size.

The Tv was away in the corner difficult to view from the bed, the remote control had only one battery and had no cover to keep in the batteries. The food was very poor quality. We had dinner in the bar and waited a long time for the food to arrive. The burger was very basic and no side salad and greasy frozen chips for €22. My child's kids meal was meant to have veg but she didn't get any. The roast beef sandwich was just pulsed up meat in a bit of bread with a side of gravy which didn't taste nice. Next morning we had breakfast which was OK. There was only low fat milk (no regular) and I got a stare when I asked. The bacon was SOAKED in grease and so thin you could see thru it. Cheapest of the cheap. The rest of the breakfast was quite nice.

Anthony is a Gem!

When we arrived at the hotel with alot of luggage we were helped by the lovely Anthony. He went from sweeping leaves from the front step to getting a luggage trolley and helping us to our room. He carted all the luggage on the trolley and was so warm and friendly he is a credit to your hotel. The lady checking us in for breakfast was lovely too sorry I didnt catch her name but she was making a fuss of the kids and making them feel extra special. All staff were lovely the servers in the restaurant were so friendly too. We had another room booked with friends and it overlooked the tennis court, it was beautiful setting too!

The hotel was beautiful (I would have loved one of the newer rooms but think as I was in a family room we were put to the older style rooms) our room was super spacious, super clean and beautiful though. I loved the decor on the newer bedrooms so will book these next time

A treasured memory in a beautiful place

The property and grounds are beyond beautiful. Although it rained the whole time we were there, it was still breath-taking. We didn't try the restaurant, but the bar was very good. The staff were helpful, the food was delicious. The breakfast was in the lovely restaurant and it was quite the spread. All of the staff were friendly and helpful there too. The location is close enough to the Dublin airport that it was an easy drive after a red-eye flight. The golf course was beautiful, again, even in the rain.

The grounds were beautiful, especially driving through the avenue of trees. The rooms were pristine and I would say recently refurbished. Very nice deco. Tea / coffee & biscuits. Plenty of towels lovely & clean. The pillows a little hard. But that’s probably preference. All the staff were polite, helpful & friendly. The breakfast was very good, help yourself basis.

We paid extra for the balcony, I wasn’t expecting a step up & a step down going onto the balcony. A little smaller than expected, but all the same 2 chairs and a little table were there. We could hear the neighbouring room when they were in the bathroom. Room 214 was ours. The pressure of water in the shower wasn’t great. We had a meal in the bar. Choose the fish in batter, but it was a bit too greasy for us. It almost tasted as if the oil it was cooked in need to be changed. We didn’t finish our meal. But maybe it just wasn’t too our taste.

Breakfast excellent. We would have preferred a more updated menu in the Terrace Bar. A choice of more salads e.g smoked salmon, roast beef etc.

Absolutely everything, the drive up to the hotel was the beginning of a fabulous stay. A warm welcome, a fabulous room 232 . Georgous food,great facilities.

Pleasant hotel but I’d hoped for more and better service

Enjoyed the golf course and rose garden. Breakfast was pleasant.

Apart from dining room and terrace bar the hotel is quite tired. Bedrooms are dated. Leisure centre is functional and not the decor I was expecting for this type of hotel - felt more municipal. Limited adult only hours so on both ends occasions I wished to use the pool there were several families with young children using it so a little too loud to be relaxing. Unfortunately staff at the terrace bar were inattentive. Seemed more interested to attend to larger groups leaving couples like ourselves waiting ages and having to get up to go get attention. Very poor customer service. No smiles or pleasantries. Didn’t seem interested in us at all. Disappointing.

Just a lovely stay!

The Ballymascanlon Hotel is a traditional old, house hotel with large rooms, high ceilings and traditional fittings combined with modern requirements and refinements. On our one-night stay, for a party, the upgrade to the Duchess Suite was a nice surprise providing far more accommodation than expected including a large, comfortable bed and good bathroom. At reception we were treated to that unique, Irish combination of friendly, warm greetings, wit and professionalism, the busy bar and restaurant staff were also efficient and professional. The food was excellent, including that served at the party and breakfast.

For this I would need to resort to very, minor nitpicking; some areas/details seemed slightly tired, but I can really only think of a cap missing from a basin tap.

Disappointing beyond belief

Lovely grounds to walk around.

Stayed in a family room, which was very large but so outdated and grim. The beds were so old the mattress springs were poking through the fabric, and the frames felt unstable even to sit on, immensely uncomfortable. No air conditioning, not even a fan on a hot summer weekend, with four people in a room. Had the do not disturb sign on the door whilst the baby slept, housekeeping ignored it and just barged in startling myself and the baby awake. Food is not up to scratch, ate in the bar one night, completely overpriced for what you received. In general staff not very friendly, not a mention at reception of how our stay was, simply took the key and "see you now".

The breakfast was most convenient. The ‘help yourself’ breakfast was very fresh and immediately replaced when required. The staff was exceptional and so pleasant and helpful.

The shower mat was a bit uncomfortable on my feet . The Rubbish Bins on the Golf course were very Rusty and Opened Topped which allowed Birds and Squirrels free access to the contents , causing very messy areas round the bins . New bins with vermin free tops are required URGENTLY ! Bins ruin a wonderful course .
