About this house rental

To give travellers the confidence to book during these uncertain times we have been and will continue to offer a full refund on any bookings if the Government does not allow holidays due to CoVid-19.

New England style single storey house in the quintessential village of Helford on the Helford Estuary. A beautifully decorated property in a neutral colour pallet, personalised by the family’s collection of pictures and curios. Billed as a true home-from-home it has been totally refurbished over the last three years. It allows for bright open plan living with two patios for alfresco dining, to catch the sun all day and enjoy the views over the estuary. Only a few minutes walk from the waters edge, village pub and shop, or stroll around the creek to the sailing club and tea room. Also ideal for winter lets due to oil fired central heating, a log burner (seasoned logs provided), and under floor heating in the bathrooms which creates a snug, damp-free, cosy escape.

There are three double bedrooms all overlooking the garden with views of the water beyond. One is a Super King with a door on to the garden, the second bedroom is King size with a large window and the third bedroom has two single beds and also has a door onto the garden. (One cot available upon request.) There is a 4th bedroom with a single bed. All beds have luxurious down pillows and duvets with White Company bedding. Both bathrooms have been completely refurbished with luxury fittings (like a Catchpole & Rye basin), under-floor heating and large heated towel rails. The family bathroom is perfect for having a relaxing soak in the full-sized double-ended tub. The other bathroom is ideal for shower-lovers with its large walk-in rainforest shower and stylish boutique-hotel style sanitary ware.

The large sitting room (8 x 3.5m) with two sofas is focused around relaxing in front of the log burner and overlooking the views of the garden and Helford Estuary through the two sets of floor-to-ceiling patio doors. However it is also very well-equipped with media and entertainment facilities to while away any rainy days - large TV, 100+ DVD collection, Freeview & BT Sports package, BT fibre optic broadband and Vodafone Sure Signal. The living room flows through a traditional Cornish granite arch into a bespoke kitchen with Dinesen wood floor, range cooker and Nespresso coffee machine – so bring your favourite pods! Conveniently located off the kitchen is a utility room / mud room with access to outside and contains a washing machine, separate tumble dryer, additional fridge and ample storage. The dual aspect kitchen has a large dining table that always feels sunny and comfortably seats up to ten.

All the bedrooms and sitting room look out on to the secluded garden and Helford Estuary beyond. Private off road parking on-site for up to two estate (or three smaller) cars – a rarity in Helford! However not suitable for children under 8 because the patio has an unfenced drop of 1.5 metres from the patio down onto the lawn, however babes-in-arms are welcome.

The hamlet of Helford offers absolute tranquillity. It is literally at the end of the road to the sea! You can make the most of this peace by enjoying the surrounding countryside and coasts. For entertainment there is a pub with large terrace overlooking the Helford Estuary, a tea shop in the converted church and a wonderful local store (that stocks everything including fresh bread, croissants and ice-cream). Sailors can join the Helford River Sailing Club for a week or day sail dinghies from Helford Point or St Anthony's Bay or moor your own dinghy at Steve Potter's pontoon just a few minutes walk from the house and is accessible at all states of the tide. The rocks are wonderful for crabbing and the property is just 50 metres from the Coastal Path so why not take a short walk through the bluebell woods to Frenchman's Creek or explore Penarvon Cove. There are many lovely beaches just a short drive away. The foot Ferry from Helford Point (3 minutes walk) takes you across the river to the Ferryboat Inn for a delicious lunch or walk along to Glendurgan or Trebah Gardens. We often walk in a circle round Helford and include the Kestle Barton Art Gallery and garden. You can visit sub tropical gardens, take the King Harry Ferry to the Roseland Peninsula see the Maritime Museum in Falmouth and then take ferry to St Mawes for lunch/afternnon tea at the famous Tresanton Hotel. The Ship Inn at Mawgan is well worth booking for an evening meal, run by husband and wife team Ali and Greg, some of their amazing food can also be bought at the local shop. We are big fans but so are most of Cornwall so book early! The South Cafe has just reopened in Manaccan, just up the road. St Ives is of course well worth a trip and you can park and ride and get the train into the town. The Porthminster Beach Cafe near the station is another of our favourite places to eat - you need to book at busy times. Trevaskis Farm has high quality Pick Your Own and a restaurant with the biggest choice of deserts we've ever seen! Fresh fish can be bought from Kernowsashini Farm just 4 miles away, or the Cornish Shellfish company in Gweek. There is a seal sanctuary near Helston and don't forget the Floral Dance if you are there in early May. Go down the Poldark Mine near Redruth (tin mining capital of Cornwall in18C), or go to Roskillys Farm and watch the cows being milked and maybe have a wood fired pizza. See the Lizard Lighthouse Centre and Marconi Wireless Station or visit Porthleven harbour - Rick Stein has just opened a restaurant there and we can recommend the husband and wife run SeaDrift cafe. There is the Minack Open Air Theatre we recommend going via Mousehole the picturesque harbour and small town. The interesting Tremenheere Sculpture Garden is also in that direction. West Cornwall is also rich in Neolithic and Bronze Age Heritage sites. You can use our two-man Gemini sit-on canoe - just launch it by the pub - and explore the creeks and banks of the Helford River. Golfers can enjoy Mullion Golf Course, a fabulous cliff top and links course or you can just relax and enjoy the many different agapanthus in the secluded garden.

April Cottage is a lovely place - pretty big for a cottage I'd say!The living room and bedrooms are lovely bright spaces and the big comfy sofas are perfect for flopping onto after a day of Cornish air.The bathrooms are spacious, fresh and modern and there is plenty of storage in the bedrooms. The kitchen is well equipped and again llenty of space. The garden terrace is sunny in the morning and early afternoon and there is sun at the end of the garden later on.The view is beautiful. The cottage is close, but not too close, to the pub and shop and a short and pretty walk from the ferry.Helford is a delightful village and the estuary calm enough to enjoy kayaking in and out of the numerous creeks and on to perfect beaches. We are already recommending this place to friends and family.

We returned to April cottage after our first visit there in 2020 during the brief period we were allowed out of lockdown. We’d actually had the holiday booked for about a year beforehand so were lucky to be able to go. It is such a fabulous cottage, in the most peaceful village. We hope To return next year, all being well.

The house is very comfortable and beautifully decorated; adults and teenagers alike loved it. A short walk to the beach, ferry, pub and shop - everything we hoped for. The garden was a delightful place to sit and watch the boats on the water below.
