Château de Mercuès

Location, Hotel, staff, wine tasting, food, chef (excellent), pool, ambience, all really good. loved the attendant birds. Overall expensive but worth it

Fairy-tale building in a wonderful location.

This property is trading on its location and the exterior appearance of the building, and perhaps on its Michelin restaurant. We might have tried the restaurant if it had an a la carte menu. Our room was okay, it had a faded glamour but poor facilities. The carpet had seen better days and the shower arrangement was unusable without flooding the bathroom. Not good enough for the price. Our room was not properly cleaned after the first night, the bed had just been turned over, cups and glasses were still dirty, and they were not particularly gracious about remedying the situation. On checkout I was asked three times whether we had had breakfast, almost as if they couldn’t believe we wouldn’t and thought we were trying to get away with something.
