As a frequent traveller to Kenya since more than 20 years ago, I have usually spent some days resting at the coast after each safari. Our stay at Sunset Villa definitely wins hands down compared to any coastal resort. All the usual hotel services are provided, including cooking, but with a degree of hassle-free privacy and laid-back atmosphere I have never enjoyed at any beach resort. The pool is great, and the secluded beach at the creek is just a five minute walk from the house. George and Marguerite Gerst deserve my congratulations for creating this little piece of paradise, and I wish to thank Muramba, Saidi, Kazungu and the askaris for taking such good care of me and my family during our stay. Sunset Villa is the next best thing to having your own beach property in Kenya. No doubt we will be back. For prospective guests, and just as additional advice, renting a car will make the most of your stay since it will allow you to make great day trips from Kilifi (Mombasa, Malindi, Gedi ruins, Arabuko Sokoke Forest...). A 4x4 is not a must, but it is preferrable. And while in Kilifi do not miss the pizzas at Makuti Villas Resort, delicious stuff, just a ten minute drive from the house.

Unsere Weihnachtsferien in Kilifi waren spontan gebucht und übertrafen alle Erwartungen. Schon unsere Fragen vorab waren stets nach wenigen Stunden beantwortet. Nach unserer Ankunft haben Marguerite und George, unterstützt durch ihr Team, herzlich und kompetent alles getan, damit wir uns von Anfang an zu Hause fühlen und die Annehmlichkeiten der Villa, des Gartens und der Umgebung genießen konnten. Das erste von Mramba, dem Koch, vorbereitete Abendessen - Fisch mit Kokosreis und Früchten - ließ uns die Strapazen der Anreise schnell vergessen. Auch Salem und Saidi, die Gärtner, gaben uns fachkundige Erklärungen zur Tier- und Pflanzenwelt und ließen uns an ihrem Leben teilhaben. Kilifi ist ein Ort, von dem aus viele interessante Ausflüge möglich sind (wenn nicht gerade das Baden in der nahe gelegenen Bucht oder im Pool noch schöner ist). Das Angebot der Sunset Villas ist in jeder Hinsicht empfehlenswert!
