La Chartreuse Haut-Bailly - Anciennement Château Le Pape

Absolutely stunning and quiet chateau. The setting is just idyllic. Well kept and beautiful grounds and pool Simon was an excellent host who would do anything for you Breakfast was excellent - especially enjoyed on the terrace Great to have bikes to explore the local area

Beautiful property and rooms, excellent staff, facilities and delicious breakfast. Accommodations were beautifully appointed, large rooms with beautiful views. Swimming in the Infinity pool surrounded by lush vineyards after a long day of travel was heavenly. It felt like staying in a royal family estate. Unfortunately could only stay one night due to our itinerary. We would have loved to stay longer.

I liked everything.

- Staff: Very helpful, friendly and professional and dedicated. Also spoke good English, also appreciated the effort compared to others. - Room: Practical spacious room & everything works well, beautiful bathroom. - Facilities: Heated Pool, Clean, well-kept facilities and grounds. - Lighting: Very good lighting and various lighting options available. - Location: Very good 35-40mins to Bordeaux Centre. - Breakfast: Very good breakfast (not buffet) including both sweet and savoury options. Lactose-free milk also provided. Aesthetics: Very good - WiFi: Good & secure - Security: Very good - Reception: Not 24/7, but accomodation is not a Hotel however staff make themselves easily available. - Parking: Ample street parking.

- Price: Quite Pricey at €315/night for Robert Double Room even for France. - Room: Daylight/ Exterior Lighting at night lights up the room (no blackout). Windows not soundproof, tractor in fields may wake you up. - Noise: Squeaky & Noisy stairs coming into room or by other guests. Door not soundproof. - Access: Stairs at entry and to room at Level 1. - Payment: FULL Payment before stay

We were looking for an experience different from a usual hotel stay & La Chartreuse Haut-Bailly definitely offered that. The Chateau is clean and beautiful. Can tell they refurbished it & tastefully done with it’s own charm. The breakfast experience is superb, just like it was mentioned in other review. We can tell the host takes a lot of pride in preparing the breakfast from table layout to the food. It’s not just tastefully done, it’s delicious as well. We looked forward to breakfast everyday. We left something behind after check out and the staff arranged it to be shipped back to our country of residence. We were so grateful for that so thank you so much to the team at La Chartreuse Haut-Bailly for your hospitality. 😌

1) lock faulty to the connecting family room. Privacy was compromised. Lucky it was low season & we were the ones there. If the chateaux is full, it would have been a bummer. Staff should have checked and ensure prior to arrival since we booked a family room. 2) no lifts so unless you can handle your large luggage, small hand carry are recommended. We did fine.
