EVERYTHING! Our rooms simple, authentic furnishings, original art, fireplace - ahh! The garden courtyard with nightly fires outside and the lodge lobby with gorgeous timbers, homemade cookies and meeting the basset hounds was a highlight.
El Portal was perfection for our 38th anniversary Sedona staycation.

The staff here was charming and very helpful. Location within town was very walkable and ideal even if it doesn’t have views.

I stayed at El Portal Hotel in Sedona and had an absolutely wonderful experience. With so many hotels in the area priced similarly, I chose El Portal somewhat at random and went in with no expectations — and I was completely blown away. The property is breathtaking; every detail feels intentional, from the furniture to the artwork, and you can truly see the pride and care the owners and staff put into the space. The location is perfect — walkable to fantastic restaurants and shops — which made the stay even better. I will absolutely be back and have already recommended it to friends.
Adored everything about it.

The location is great. We ate breakfast next door at The Secret Garden one day and Creekside another day
I hated that we could only stay 2 days

The property is located in the heart of Sedona, we didn’t have to travel far, mostly walked to shops, restaurants and things to do. The property was so lovely and the fire pit area was amazing. I loved all the snacks that were on hand at all time. Kept me fueled for our outings. Staff was a delight.
Our bathroom smelled of raw sewage, the shower was covered in black mold on the ceiling and walls. The tub was questionable bc of the way it looked, the tub had patchwork. There was hair in the sink area. The sleeper bed was atrocious. I have slept on pull out couches and this is by far one of the worst ones, it felt like it had been one of the original ones. Also I understand it is a dog friends space and I have dogs, but due to the bathroom and lack of cleaning I cannot help but wonder if they are cleaning enough in each room to get rid of any pet dander. So take caution when booking if you have a dog allergy, DO NOT BOOK HERE.

Hands down one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in! The care, quality, and attention to detail are evident from the moment you pull into the drive and see the beautiful vine-covered entry. It only gets better from there- thoughtful communal spaces, authentic art and architecture, genuine finishes and intentional, locally and historically informed, design. The staff is so kind and welcoming. The place exudes quality and class yet is also down to earth, charming, and feels like home. A real five star stay. The honor bar, complementary snacks, many fireplaces, and great conversations were icing on the cake. Absolutely stellar, we cannot wait to come back!
We loved everything, the only thing we didn't like was the fact we could not stay longer. Seriously, it was a dream and inspires me to visit Sedona more often, just to stay at El Portal. Only thing I'd add is a baseball cap with embroidery? I bought the one they had, and it's good, but I'm dreaming of an embroidery-style one...

Loved how private and personal all the touches were. Staff are very friendly!
Rooms felt quite cold! I would have loved a duvet, the heating wasn’t great.

The rooms are beautiful as is the whole hotel. Love that it is tucked away but still close to walk to shops and restaurants.
All was very lovely!

The hotel is in a great location. It is quaint and charming with beautiful, unique decor and architecture. Terri and Fran were very welcoming and gave us information on great hikes in the area. We loved the self- serve snacks and drinks available at all hours. We also loved having a glass of wine while sitting outside by the fireplace . The rooms are very spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable with extra pillows. We originally booked 1 night but decided to extend our stay for an extra 2 nights as we loved it so much! We can’t wait to come back!

This is a little slice of heaven in Sedona. The attention to every detail at this property is very clear. It’s so gorgeous at every turn. Even stained glass on the doors! We stayed in the Flat Rock Hickory room #5 and it was stunning. The bed was so comfortable and the room so well appointed. Vaulted ceilings with wood beams was stunning. The bathroom had an enormous soaking tub out of your dreams. They have all little snacks in the kitchen as part of your stay and amazing coffee in the morning. The outdoor space has crawling ivy on the building and woven into the lights and a gorgeous wood fire pit (they even have little bags to make s’mores). I mean…. EVERY DETAIL! You will not be disappointed staying here. It is a 2 minute walk to Tlaquepaque shopping which is so fantastic (don’t miss eating at Rene)! They also have a pool and spa next door which is fantastic. The staff was so welcoming and lovely, as well.
Not a thing! Hotel El Portal is amazing!

The location is fantastic and everyone who works there is wondrful!
Honestly, I think the hotel needs an update. The bones are so charming, but the furniture in my room was so old, the bed was far below my expectations, and it all just felt a bit outdated.

Small and unique. Felt like an honored guest in a manor home!
Had an older ambiance than expected but truly unique character and old world turn of the century charm!

Everything. The gardens, the fireplaces, the decor, I loved every detail, loved that it was pet friendly, I loved the fresh baked cookies and snacks, the option for a glass of wine or beverage charged to your room. The history! everything!
Nothing, it was all amazing! I didn't want to leave

A perfect stay for our three-generations group. We were completely charmed by El Portal and the care and thought that went into every detail of building it. The rooms were beautiful and the beds comfortable, with thick walls so we did not hear any neighbors. The snacks were abundant and enough for breakfast each day—fresh coffee at 7, bagels and cream cheese, oatmeal, cookies, yogurt, string cheese. Special thanks to Laurie for suggesting a great plan for our family trip to the Grand Canyon!

Loved how beautiful and that it felt secluded but was downtown

I LOVED this hotel—it’s one of the nicest I’ve ever stayed in. We even extended our stay another night. With only 12 rooms, it feels intimate, charming, and unique. Each room is spacious and beautiful, the lobby feels like a cozy living room, and they offer complimentary snacks and drinks 24/7 plus an honor-system bar.
The courtyard was a highlight—we hung out by the fire every night with other guests and even left with new friends. The location is perfect: walking distance to shops and restaurants and a quick drive to everything Sedona has to offer. Parking was free and easy, and we also got access to the Hilton spa facilities just a short walk away, which meant pool and hot tub time after exploring.
The staff was wonderful and so accommodating. Truly an amazing stay—I can’t wait to come back!
That we couldn't stay longer.

Excellent location within walking distance of multiple shops and restaurants. Our room was very large and comfortable with a great patio and gas firepit. The amenities included in the room (fridge, safe, etc.) all worked very well and were easy to use. The staff was very friendly and immediately responsive to requests. We loved the decor of our room (Greene and Greene) and felt completely at ease for our entire stay. The snacks provided with the room were excellent and really met our needs for the extensive hiking we did throughout the week. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend El Portal to friends and family and look forward to our next visit
Nothing that comes to mind.

Great ambiance. Loved the room decor and the private outside patio area. The courtyard, with all the plants, chairs and firepit just added to the magic. The hotel was perfectly located next to shops and restaurants and the access to the spa and pool next door was an added bonus. Note: The folks at the hotel next door could not have been any nicer and enthusiastic that we were there to use the facilities. Can't wait to return.
Stay was too short. That's on me.

The care and love put into constructing this charming European appearing hotel was so appealing. We enjoyed morning coffee and evening wine in the serene courtyard with the fire pit to take the chill off.
The staff is pleasant and helpful and the room and breakfast were just right.
Shopping and strolling through the park are a short walk away.
Definitely a good find to return to.
All was very nice

The hotel and staff were fantastic! It was so full of care from the architecture, to the decor, the warm, welcoming staff, the kitchen offerings and the wonderful, complimentary sound bath healing session.
Nothing, it was truly wonderful and we would happily go back!
