The IKEA bed was really squeaky, which was bearable for us but I imagine our neighbours didn’t love it.

The entire place has creaky floorboards, and you can hear every other guest in their rooms. Earpods are a must. Hope that you don't get room 18A with the toilets outside your door!

Not so bad - and you can be proud of staying in a historic hotel.

The hotel is a history building - built on 1911. The rooms are clean. The showers and toilets are shared, but they are clean enough. Because the building is old, you might not feel like staying in a deluxe hotel - but it is a good experience.

The room was sometimes very hot - probably because it is on the top floor and lack of insulation. There was a fan in the room, which was helpful.

My room was nice, and I was happy to have a sink in my room and a comfortable bed.

Vancouver had a heat wave while I was there. And my room was particularly hot because I had two large windows facing south. I struggled to cool the room with the fan, but this is no failing on the part of the property, just unfortunate weather.

Room wasn’t clean at all. So bad we bought our own sheets and pillowcases from a home store due to very obvious stains of fluids. Floors were also very dusty and our door probably could have been opened with a small push as it was barely hanging on.

The staff very friendly and helpful. What breakfast? I noticed an old packet of cornflakes, no milk, no spoons, no sugar.

The shower floor was extremely slippery, anyone could easily fall. The building needs major maintenance. Having paid approximately $275 per night I expected much better. Had I been paying less than $100 per night perhaps I could have put up with the inconveniences and state of the run down building. Another example is when you get through the front door the stairs are there with very little room to get in or turn around with luggage etc. Fridge grossly undersized. See above for the non breakfast issue.

It’s an old heritage building very nice and it is a good location for exploring Vancouver.

It was dirty and facilities were rubbish . We were there 4 nights and the communal shower and toilets were not cleaned once absolutely distrusting!!

A good clean comfortable place to stay at affordable price in a This beautiful city of Vancouver.

The hotel/hostel is a good place to stay. Yes it is old, but is well maintained and is clean ! It is close to public transportation to the airport and around the city too. There are a lot of good restaurants and places to explore close by.The staff is very friendly and helpful. So all of this made my stay great ! Would I stay there again YES!

Exceptional!!

Safe and secure, spacious and comfortable room and very good “base” from which to explore Vancouver and beyond. Staff were easy going and approachable, nothing was too much trouble. Late check in was available and easy, as well as baggage storage prior to departure which was ideal for my flight timings. Thanks guys! Until next time :-)

Okay for Vancouver, but Some Improvements Needed

The location was okay — not the most beautiful part of downtown, but it was convenient. There were plenty of places to eat nearby, which made it easy to get dinner before going back to the accommodation or breakfast the next day. The staff was polite, and communication was easy.

Let’s say the price was acceptable only by Vancouver standards — prices there are quite excessive. The bed wasn’t very comfortable. The bathrooms and toilets could definitely be cleaner.

Relatively Cheap, but would be my last option in Vancouver

Fairly well located, it was cheap.

- It was old and lacked malntenance in almost every corner. -It was not very clean, could see some garbage and dirty laundry laying around. -A couple of small "common areas", that had old and rusty chairs. -WiFi not working in the rooms. Staff was polite enough, but not helpful. -The cleaning lady should learn some manners. - If you have heavy luggage, might me pretty difficult to take it up the stairs by yourself.

Decent location, passable facilities

My stay at St Clair Hotel-Hostel was as expected. The price was good, in comparison to other accommodation options in Downtown Vancouver. The location was also convenient!

The facilities were OK. As with many other reviews, I would agree that the washrooms were not very clean, but I didn't mind too much. The room was clean enough, and the bed was OK (not the most comfortable, but not the worst). The bed frame did squeak a lot whenever I moved, but this was anticipated from other reviews. For me, the biggest issue was the noise – but again, it's a hostel, so what can you expect. Ear plugs helped for sleeping.

Very cold room, no heating. I had 3 blankets and slept in clothes. Same temperature as outside, due to crack in a window. Very durty, dust and hair from previous guests. Laud from outside (you can hear cars, traffic) and inside building (everything, walking, talking, fighting) Stinky shower. Old building that deffinitly needs reinnovation

location was the only positive thing

pretty much everything what can be wrong , was wrong. The whole building is so old, it is not even funny. you cannot possibly walk on the floor without making a noise. Same deal with bed. It literally makes noise on each exhale. No privacy at all, this place has no soundproofing. If you are over 6’2” you have no chance to fit in on the bed. Room was not clean and there were flocks of dust in corners. No ventilation in the room, it gets very stuffy inside. Terrible wi-fi, it does not work in rooms, you need to seat in the hallway in order to get some reception. A whole bunch of very suspicious characters are hanging around the entrance 24/7. There is no ramp, so if you have a suitcase , be prepared to drag it all the way up through the narrowest staircase. Paint on the ceiling and walls is peeling and dropping. Shared bathroom is shared not just with couple of rooms but with a whole entire floor plus it was filthy. the whole bathroom is just covered in black mould, which is a health hazard. We stayed there for 5 days and figured out that bathrooms are cleaned once a week only. No staff over night, so noise curfew is not a thing.
