Apt. Casa Ancora:
This two bedroom apartment is ideally located in the very popular Ancora Resort, just a short 3 minute drive from the beautiful, coved beach of Porto de Mós and a 5 minute drive from the historical centre of Lagos. To the rear of the low-rise condominium, in a gated walled landscaped garden set with palm trees, you will find the swimming pool, jacuzzi and shower area.
The apartment is located on the second floor (top floor) of this very nice low-rise condominium and there is a lift.
The owners have furnished the apartment to a very high standard and decorated in decorated in warm and modern tones. As soon as you walk in you are immediately impressed by the spacious open plan living room which also has a dining area and, a fully fitted kitchen to the right. The large dining table can be extended to seat 6 people and the kitchen also possess a small breakfast bar with stools for those who wish to grab a quick coffee.The living room comes equipped with a TV and DVD/Stereo system and one of the sofas converts into a bed providing sleeping arrangements for 2 children or 1 adult (comfortably). There is an additional cost of €5 pppn for additional guests sleeping on the sofa bed.
Sliding patio doors lead out from the lounge to large terrace overlooking the pool and gardens. The terrace is equipped with table and chairs and a built in BBQ for that all important al fresco dining. There is also access to the terrace from the kitchen.
The master bedroom has a double bed, fitted wardrobes and is large and airy with patio doors to the balcony. It has an en-suite bathroom with a bath as well as a shower over the bath.
The second bedroom is equally light and airy, with 2 single beds, fitted wardrobes and patio doors to the balcony. It has use of the second bathroom which is fitted with a shower.
Both bathrooms have tiles and fittings that are modern and bright and, both bedrooms have access to a 2nd large balcony terrace which is separate from the lounge terrace and is equipped with sunbeds for private sunbathing.
The apartment has a built in stereo system for playing music through your MP3, which can be operated in every room via a control panel in the wall.
There is also Air conditioning throughout.
There is ample car parking right outside the door and for the more energetic the resort has an Olympic swimming pool surrounded by a large grassed area, umbrellas and sunbeds which guests can pay to use. This apartment really has to be seen to be appreciated and is the ideal family property providing safe and comfortable surroundings in quiet complex close to all amenities.

We loved our stay.
There was only one problem.
Our coffee filter jug had a broken handle so pouring the first morning we had boiling coffee everywhere..
I rang and asked for a new jug but did not receive one . We had no way of making coffee safely for our 10 day stay.

This ended up being the perfect location for us. We are a couple who wanted easy access to reach the numerous trails and walk to old down town Lagos.
The apartment was very comfortable and quiet and had all the amenities we required. We were there for a month and were quite surprised to find they delivered extra towels and bedding shortly after we arrived....a bonus. The unit had a western exposure with access to the balconies from every room. We lost our hot water once during the month but this was resolved almost immediately.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and hope to return again.

The apartment was lovely. It was clean and in good shape overall. The neighborhood was also nice - we were able to walk to the beaches nearby. The downside was the apartment amenities. Each bathroom had 1 roll of toilet paper and 1 little bar of soap, so be prepared to buy all of the basics (sponge, dish soap, hand soap, toilet paper, tissues or paper towels, etc.). I’ve never been in a rental without those household basics, so that was a little disappointing.

The check in process was difficult for traveler's without phone access. We bought a European sim card for our phones but it did not work in Portugal.
We had to borrow a phone to call in for the code to enter the condo. Joas did not give us the additional code to enter the building. So we had to drive to a restaurant and borrow another phone to call back for the code for the building. Also the complex was not well lit so we had trouble finding the actual building in the dark. All these steps added at least an hour at the end of a long travel day! Please provide access info by e-mail well in advance for traveler's without phone and limited e-mail access.
The condo was well equipped with dishes etc but it would have been helpful to have a small amount of dish soap, a dish cloth and more than one dishwasher puck for a 5 day stay. We had to buy a large container of dish soap and left it behind.
It is annoying when you charge the credit card for the damage deposit rather than just putting a credit card hold for the amount. We were out 10 euro when the credit card refunded the damage deposit.
For these reasons we can only give a 3 star rating.
