Great location in the Gas Lamp, convenient to all of parties at my convention.
It was all good.

Quaint interior of an old restored historic hotel, we were on a balcony facing the inner courtyard. Room was super clean. Bed extremely comfortable. Bar had good service and drinks for casual meetings.
No breakfast service and valet parking (the only option unless you walk to an open lot a couple of blocks away) is too pricey. We chose to park off site two blocks away in an open air lot. Only bad thing would be if you were caught in the rain. Fortunately its San Diego and dry most of the time.

The employees were great.
The room was very aged with a few things broken or not working. Definitely not worth the price charged.

The location is fantastic if you want to enjoy Gaslamp, Petco Park, or the Convention Center,
The hotel has definitely seen better days. Old carpets, old furnishings, faded banisters, fixtures in the bathroom literally dangling off the wall.
With a bit of TLC and restoration this hotel could be absolutely gorgeous.I don't mean modernized either. Just restore is beautiful charm.
Also, there isn't private parking as listed. Valet only. $60 a day

The staff was excellent and accommodating. Very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and cozy.
Our bathroom leaked water from the ceiling and got the toilet, sink and toilet paper wet.

Simple, but historic hotel in prime location. Room was pretty, but somewhat poorly insulated from neighbors. Felt cozy with a nice view into the courtyard.
Noise insulation as expected from an older building.

This is a classical old hotel. My room was very large and comfortable. It was clean and with friendly staff. The location was great in the gas lamp district.
I have no complaints.

Upon my arrival I was greeted by Victor, professional an friendly, great asset to your staff, the location was great, was on town for a concert, I was able to walk to it. Love the style of the hotel an the history an artifacts within.

I liked the location and the history of it.
I don’t feel like anyone went out of their way to make it a great stay. It was a place to sleep.

The Horton was a splurge stay and I felt it well worth the money. I stayed in the interior King room with balcony. It’s old fashioned charming, definitely not a big chain experience. I loved every aspect—the comfy bed, the armoire, desk, and the Juliet balcony. I loved falling asleep while listening to the Friday night Gaslamp District revelry. Tea and book reading on the balcony. The stay for me was a perfect way to relax and recharge.
I thought it was great! I missed using my voucher at the bar (the bar was too crowded and I didn’t need the drink that much), but that was my own decision.

Location, staff, look and feel.
My balcony was MUCH smaller than advertised in Booking.com

The staff were all super friendly and helpful, especially Robert, who helped us bring our bags to our room upon arriving and Todd, the valet who reminisced about being from Washington state, where we are from.
We enjoyed the uniqueness and history of the hotel, with its antique artifacts, photos and furniture. We had fun walking the layout and searching for the haunted room 309.
It was fun having a balcony to hang out on watching the nightlife from overhead and to start the day on in the morning. It offers a unique perspective on the city.
Check-in and check-out were fast and easy. The valet let us keep our car there until 1 pm even though checkout is at 11 am and we were able to keep our bags in the office while we went to breakfast for added security. (The Tiger Cafe was delicious!)
The free drink vouchers are a nice touch but neither my husband or I drink so some other alternative might be nice to offer.
We did enjoy the fireplace at night which gave us some nice warmth as it got a bit chilly. We also appreciated being able to stream shows on Netflix and Amazon on the TV.
When I booked the room, I didn't think about the fact that it was a Friday night and the city would be alive with bar-hoppers. There were loud crowds and exceptionally loud-mufflered cars and motorcycles revving their engines until shortly after the bars closed. I was finally able to get to sleep around 2:30 am.
The bed was fine but not overly comfortable and the pillows are a bit too squishy. There was no microwave or refrigerator. There is a public microwave down in the little food/gift shop if needed. We used the ice bucket to keep some creamer cold that we had brought for coffee.
The bathroom is small and there is no vanity/counter space for toiletries. The shower was pretty good.
The carpets were stained, there was a burned out lightbulb in our bathroom, there were charging outlets on only one side of the bed. Although the age of the hotel adds to its charm, it also shows it's age in some not-so-convenient shortcomings.

The staff was very generous and nice. The hotel has a very beautiful old-fashioned atmosphere. The room is beautiful and clean.
The bed was really bad and not suitable for sleeping. We sank into the mattress which really affected our sleep.

Great property with nice large rooms
The attached whiskey bar was a little strange. We sat at a table for approx 5 mins and no staff member asked us for our order so we left.

I thought this hotel was ok overall but probably more 3 star than 4. Everything was fine but hotel felt a bit tired. Bathroom in my room was very basic and not really 4 star level. Aircon worked well and wifi was ok but had to reconnect a few times. Staff were very nice and friendly. Nice bar off the lobby but service hit and miss though not a major issue for us and didn't stop us going in there. Valet parking was very good but expensive.
Mostly all ok - valet parking expensive at $60 dollars a night.

The staff was amazing. Everyone from the Front desk, valet, security and cleaning staff were warm and friendly. I was greeted with a warm smile and each person was genuinely helpful. I needed to leave early before the valet got there and the front desk made arrangements for my car to be waiting at 0430.
Everything was great but I would say that they should upgrade the fixtures in the bathroom. They worked find but they were corroded and the handle felt like it was about to come off. The room I had was a little small but had everything I needed and was very comfortable.

This hotel is a gem! Beautiful and historic.
The only thing we would have liked is breakfast at the hotel, but many options were within walking distance.

There was nothing I liked about this hotel. I would never stay here again.
The Horton grand Hotel needs to work on their customer service. The. Worker at front desk was extremely condescending and rude. Every time we walked into the room, there was a stench of animal feces by the front door. There was quite a bit of trash under the bed. There were two press on nails stuck to the phone cord. You could hear where the people on the floor above you were walking. The bathroom door would stick so bad that you would have to give it a good shoulder push to get out. This place is gross. I would never stay here again.

Lots to like here! We enjoyed staying in a hotel that reflects and preserves the history and character of a city, rather than the "upscale could be anywhere" style of other hotels. (Also, locally owned, keeping more of our dollars in the local economy.) Everything was very comfortable and decently equipped. The ELEVATOR is a treat! The hotel has cleverly set up little museum vignettes you can see through glass on each floor. The staff were relaxed yet attentive, and my comments about our iffy toiletries dispenser were met very positively, with sincere thanks for my feedback. The location is great, too: some of the other nice hotels have rather sketchy or noisy activity at street level, but the Horton Grand's block is calm --yet an easy walk to a couple excellent places for coffee, breakfast (Cafe 222!), eats (Taqueria Los Chuchys!), the waterfront, trolley, etc.
It'd be nice if the $24/room Resort Fee were mentioned up front, to avoid a sense of surprise or nickel-and-diming guests. The glassed-in lobby is begging to be turned into the conservatory it clearly was designed to be; adding lots of lush, exotic plants would really make that space special! As it stands, it's a bit pointless, especially next to the really lovely open-air brick courtyard.

The attached restaurant was nice! Good Food! And the two free drinks was also nice. Good location.
The room was ok...rather dated. I expected better amenities, nice towels, a better shower, etc., No glasses to drink out of, no microwave as indicated, things like that. Also, they didn't use AC in the main corridors...it was hot on the top floor.

Great location and the bed was very comfortable
Shower head felt like it was about to break off. The ac was super loud and the room was very bright. For the price, the decor, ac and bathroom facilities need to be pristine.

Staff not very helpful. Lady at front desk seemed to be preoccupied on her phone. She was pleasant,. We received a free drink at the bar. Our last night at the hotel we went down to the bar at 10:15. The bartender who was very rude said. "Nope we are closed, we closed at 10." My husband said, "oh can you make an exception, it's our last night here.?
Bartender replied "No can't do that". Thought he was very rude and abrupt with us. Considering we were guests and not someone who stopped in off the street. We entered the bar from the stairs.

Superb location. Beautiful building and lovely staff. We opted for a king size with balcony and room size was ideal. Beds and pillows super comfortable. Would absolutely stay again!
Whilst not a deal breaker the toilet is about a foot away from the wall so you lose a lot of space in the bathroom. Aircon too noisy to have on but to be honest the fan kept the room cool enough (it was June though so not sure if this would be enough mid summer).

It was so charming and the staff is friendly. The location is excellent as well. Will definitely be staying here again!
The self parking was a small walk away, but it was half the price of valet for 24 hours.

We left for the airport at 6AM.
The shower was somewhat difficult to place on the correct temperature.
