Motel 6-Astoria, OR

Central location, good cleanliness.

No in-room coffee maker, Coffee in lobby not brewed early enough (like at 5am for people heading out for fishing charters in early morning), staff member ignoring us when we showed up for coffee before 6am.

Great location! Lots of stuff in the area. The room was clean. The bed wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't the worse. I'd probably consider staying here again.

Bed could have been better, pillows too

The view from my room oversaw the Columbia River and the Astoria-Megler Bridge. The Astoria Riverwalk and Maritime Memorial along the river were nice. Once settling down at night, I could hear the ambient noise from the river and bridge. Although there is a homeless shelter next door, I wouldn't have known. The entire area was a pleasant scene. I chose to stay in the smoking room since it was for one night. I had dogs so the pet fee was waived because of the smoke odor. I dont smoke and my nose gets stuffy from some fragrances and odors. My allergies didn't flare up and the slight residual smell didn't bother me. Plus, the view from my room overlooked the Columbia River.

The bathroom sink was hard to access since the door hinges shared the same side. The door had to be closed to use the sink. I didn't watch television because the remote looked dirty. Luckily, i have Prime on my phone. Wet wipes would have been useful at the time.

The view, location, and the inside of the room was nicer than expected, especially given what the outside looks like. Appreciated their pet policies.

When I booked on Booking.com there were options for a "smoking" room or a room that didn't have a designation--I picked the latter. I did not receive a confirmation from Motel 6. When I called to confirm that we had a reservation I was told we did, for a smoking room. I let them know that's not what I booked. The Motel 6 employee told me that I could switch to a non-smoking room at check in but there was nothing he could do prior to that. I asked if that would be an issue (ie availability of rooms) and he assured me it would not be a problem and there would be plenty of non-smoking rooms. When we arrived, we were told we were lucky because there was only 1 non-smoking room left and it would be a $27 additional charge to get it. When I mentioned what we were told on the phone, the clerk asked for a name (I told him I did not have one, but it was a male on a specific date) and he shrugged, let me know what I was told on the phone was not true. We essentially wound up paying $200 to stay at a Motel 6 as a result--I would have booked in Seaside instead had I known that ahead of time. The outside of the Motel is pretty run down and there's limited parking in the lot.
