We stayed at the Waikoloa Marriott for 3 nights in late October after visiting much of the rest of the big island. For a not-terribly-expensive middle of the road resort experience (we paid about $400 a night) to wrap up our trip this was perfect for us. The resort has a great layout with many places to enjoy open-air indoor/outdoor seating. The pool is modest compared to some of the other resorts we walked around, but was clean and is only a short walk to the beach. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were very friendly every interaction we had with them. Our experience was probably enhanced given we were there off-peak season and it felt like there were only maybe a hundred other guests there with us. Could see the resort feeling smaller if it was packed to the gills with families over spring break etc.
We had to pay $35 a day for parking on top of our $400 a night rate... like cmon. Also, this is a dig at Waikoloa as a whole, not just the Marriott: it is the definition of bougie american-style insulated resort-landia. Replete with expensive shopping malls, overpriced restaurants, too many golf courses, and constant upsells. If this is your thing, then great. But know that anything approaching authentic Hawai'i is a 30+ minute drive away.

The room was nice and clean, staff was friendly, we had partial ocean view and liked the design of the hotel and the wonderful beach. You can see turtles and lot's of fishes. Parking is $18/day, which was okay. Nevertheless, this should be included if you pay $400/night! Water refill station and welcome drinks for free.
Breakfast was not well organized and we had to wait 30 mins to get a table. Quality of the food (breakfast and dinner) was not very good, e.g., the salad was not fresh. Don't go to Tacos Tuesday, it's not worth it. Alternatives are around and are much better.

The location, facilities, vast majority of the staff.
We tried the restaurant at breakfast on the first day only! Waited 25mins to be seated. Food seriously overpriced (and I live in Los Angeles). Far better options outside! Deflection tactics from front desk - so irritating. Tsunami management was dreadful - zero communications, if it had been a significant wave, the hotel wouldn’t have a clue where how to manage it.

The pool layout and proximity to the beach was wonderful.
The on-site restaurant was not great value for money. Suggest eating at one of the nearby resort malls.

Comfortable and clean beds
Way overpriced for this kind of resort/hotel. Rooms are worn out- old. Also the common areas worn out and dirty. Like dirty flooring. Not ok. We had booked for 4 nights but checked out after just one night. We found a very nice and clean vacation house instead.
Also the hotel restaurant has horrible service and bad food. We had to send our salad back.

Staff was very nice pools were nice and clean. The poolside cabana was affordable and very comfy. The souvenir store was well stocked with anything you could possible need. Our flight was not until late at night and we were able to book a room for a great price for half the day.
One of the two rooms we got was not at all the picture on the site. It was dark and missing furniture. Not at all updated with paint chipping and peeling off the walls.

The front desk and cleaning staff were fantastic and the concierge was very helpful. The pool area and location on A-Bay was great. Room was clean and cool, bed was comfortable. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.
The food was not very good, especially considering the price of everything.

Can park for free across the street
Too many things:
1. Mandatory charge of $40 for welcome drinks, WiFi, cultural classes, tennis courts, none of which would be charged in other hotels and it doesn’t include parking fee. You need to pay $35 for parking. Plus, you need to go downstairs to the restaurant to redeem your welcome drinks while such drinks come when you check in in other hotels.
2. Overpriced! Cost even more than Westin (over $500 with the mandatory charges) but not on the same level at all!
3. Sound proof is shitty. Can hear all the noises outside!
4. Ice maker is too far away from room! Takes 5min to walk to ice maker.
5. No kettle in the room, which is available in other hotels as well.
6. Room is small and no separate shower. Plus, there was a huge mosquito in the room.

Loved location - beach is beautiful
Staff was not overly accommodating- I get it’s not the Ritz - but I was paying fur 2 rooms at 600 a night - I expect a little higher lev el if service. I had simple requests- but must were met with - eh, sorry, can’t help you.

outside parking fee little high, swimming laps for exercise not possible, kamaaina rates not offered but partly available for some services if asked for.

Direct access to the beautiful beach; multiple pools on-site: overall nice property.
The staff that checked us in on Christmas Day was not helpful. We are requested rooms next to each other at the time of booking and they gave us rooms on the opposite sides of the building. The lady looked annoyed when we asked her questions about the resort.
Limited food options on the resort. They didn’t have any on-site shuttle service for drop off to near by restaurants etc. so, one needed to book a taxi or Uber even for very short rides.

Service was excellent. Hotel is beautiful.
The grounds near ponds are dirty with trash. Food was terrible.

Great location on the Kohala Coast. Very short walk to other restaurants, grocery/market, and other shops.
The kitchen does a very nice job, but the portions on some meals are much too large, unless the diner is a glutton.

The pools are great.
Dinner menus are mediocre. Restaurant coffee was stale one morning and too heavy another morning.
Room had ants.

Enjoyed continental breakfast every day. Very friendly hostess and servers. Loved the view, didn’t love all the birds that “attacked” tables as soon as guests got up.
Would have liked a place on site to enjoy a late night cocktail or snack.

Room keeper throw away my wife’s pills that were in the little table close to bed . I complained with the director without a real recognition of the causes damage

Great views
Very expensive for what you get. Everything cost extra, like sitting in canopy by the beach or pool. Staff came and told me it cost extra to sit in canopy even though it wasn’t occupied. I was kind of embarrassed. Food was very expensive even though they bought me instant mash potatoes from powder.

the location and the landscaping are wonderful. the swimming pools are excellent. I like its proximity to the lava lava beach club. we were disappointed yes that there were no water sports equipment for rent in the afternoon.
I think it is pretty expensive and a limited choice of restaurants for a resort of this kind.

The laundry room is a great idea. The pools and beach being really close to the hotel was also really convenient.
The smoothies at the cafe were really good!
The staff were friendly, especially at reception and the front desk.
The layout of the hotel was nice. It was easy to walk around and the lobby space was a fun place to hang out at any time of the day.
The breakfast was okay. Felt like there could have been more options catering to people who don’t eat pork. 3 of 4 meat items were all pork.
It was difficult to reach concierge from our room at any given time. We had to go downstairs during specific hours.
Ocean view should be changed to “pool view” because we couldn’t really see the ocean past the trees and pool. It was a misleading term.
We had asked for a taxi service to the airport on the day of our checkout and because we were running 5 minutes late (my child spilled juice on my clothes so I was in the bathroom drying myself off), the taxi driver insisted he was running behind schedule because of us. He removed our luggage from his taxi at the hotels entrance (by the main road in front of the hotel) and told us to take another taxi who was passing by. This was extremely unprofessional and rude and it surprised us because we arranged for a taxi by someone standing in the reception area of the hotel, and he didn’t even write our names down in the taxi log. Marriott should really invest in their own taxi service for this hotel especially since taxi service (at least during this time of the year) is extremely limited. Even Uber options are limited.
There aren’t too many restaurant options nearby that don’t have a 1.5-2 hour wait. You can get food from the Island Gourmet Market, but otherwise the food options were limited. And everything closes by 9pm (including the market). There was one restaurant that is open and that too with a 2 hour wait. Perhaps longer room service hours would really benefit the hotel in this instance.

All staff were excellent
The beds were extremely comfortable
Not nearly enough sun umbrellas around the pool. We hardly ever were successful in getting an umbrella and we did not think it was fair to reserve beds early as others did.
Parking charges and resort fees are extortionate.
