About this house rental

Georgian grade II listed terraced town house located within the Elizabethan ramparts in historic Berwick upon Tweed; England's most northerly coastal town, which has changed hands between England and Scotland 13 times. Visit Berwick and discover what was worth fighting for. The town boasts magnificent views over the Northumberland coast. Many walks start from the doorstep, along the preserved town walls, the coastal path to St Abbs, or beside the river, spotting seals by the town's three bridges. Berwick's narrow streets are filled with individual restaurants, pubs, shops and on the outskirts lie the main supermarkets. A five minute walk to The Maltings Art Centre, for cultural theatre, music and films. A short drive will take you to the town's leisure centre with wave pool and flume. Behind the house there are tennis courts and an 18 hole golf course. The main train line station has frequent trains to Newcastle (50mins), Durham or Edinburgh (45 mins). Nearby attractions include Holy Island Lindisfarne 10 miles, and Alnwick castle, garden and it's tree house restaurant 35 miles. The house itself sleeps 10, large enough for an extended family, or to meet up with friends; with all five bedrooms en-suite, it is able to offer comfortable sleeping accommodation for everyone. The house is located in a very quiet street,as mentioned in The Times newspaper in 2014.

“ Located within the Elizabethan town walls and therefore an easy walk into the centre, but also backing onto a golf course and, beyond that, only a couple of minutes’ walk to the coast. Barbara Pentecost, of Smiths Gore, admires this quiet, gently sloping street both for its fabulous location and its “glorious” Georgian houses.”

Due to the nature of the street EV charging is not possible at the property. There are plenty of public charging places in Berwick.

The property was in a great location in a fascinating town, with easy access to the coast and lots of places to visit. The Lowry trail around the town is well worth doing. The house is great for the dog - a path leads from the road, very close to no. 40, right up onto the ramparts and access to beach and harbour. We were 8 adults and the house was certainly large enough for us all, with very pretty, comfortable bedrooms and lounge. Very well equipped throughout and beautifully presented.

We are a mature group in all 8 of us stayed at varying times during the week and we had an excellent time. The cooking facilities are very good and we enjoyed every evening in the dining room having our meals. The washing machine and dryers were also very useful as we were completinh the Northumberland coastal path and got very wet a couple of days.

The location of the house was perfect quiet but within walking distance of everything.

Ravensdowne is an ideal holiday home for friends or family holidays get together. The fact all rooms were en suite was a huge bonus and the beds were very comfortable. The house was well furnished, warm and very well equipped. It is a lovely place to celebrate Christmas, with lots of room for everyone to eat together, we actually had 14 for dinner on Boxing Day! The location was ideal, very close to the town centre and the beach. We did a good deal of sightseeing around the local area.

beautiful house in a lovely street, very well equipped, and within easy reach of everything we wanted to get to. Berwick is a really charming town in a fascinating and beautiful area. All in all the week we spent here was a great success, in the opinion of the oldest among us (over 80) and the youngest (8)

We ranged from a 4 year old to a 63 year old (disabled with mobility issues) and the property worked for us all. The teen is autistic and the worked for him as well. There was ample space between us all and yet common spaces were nicely 'together' spaces. Only complaint would be the high front entrance and that only because without my brother in law I would not have been able to get my mobility scooter in and out of the property. For those interested the Wifi was excellant; easy walk to shops as well as train station whilst the easy access to ramparts etc made the dog walking most enjoyable.

This was a great house for a family holiday. We had 8 adults and a dog and there was plenty of space for everyone. The kitchen was a little smaller than expected for the size of the house but it has everything you need. The courtyard garden is small but secure for the dog and is a nice place to sit and relax. The owner was very flexible, friendly and helpful, making recommendations for places to eat, things to do and checking in that everything was going well during our stay. The location was ideal for us because you are right in the heart of the town, close to the town walls and beach.

The property is spacious and clean. We enjoyed visiting the local area and Edinburgh. There are many walks from the door. The property is well equipped and the owner left a bottle of wine, milk and shortbread on arrival. The owner is absolutely brilliant with communication. The house has character and everything you need. Berwick is a very interesting town.

We were a family of six adults travelling from Canada to beautiful Berwick to see the town our parents met and married in, and 40 Ravensdowne was the perfect choice. A lovely old Georgian house with spacious rooms, every bedroom an ensuite, and a charming little courtyard filled with greenery and a tinkling fountain. The house is perfectly situated for a quick walk into town or a longer amble around the Elizabethan walls, and is also about a fifteen minute walk to the train station with direct links to Edinburgh, Newcastle and London. Chris couldn’t have been more helpful…answering every question, suggesting neighbourhood restaurants and sightseeing spots, and even offering us his home for an extra night when our train travel was disrupted. We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Berwick and Ravensdowne was a big part of that.

The property was as described and ideal for our purposes. Plenty of space, everything that we needed and some lovely beaches nearby which made for excellent dog walks. We took a short direct train to Edinburgh for the day which was within easy walking distance. Will definitely be booking again.

We could not have been more fortunate in choosing Ravensdowne as the location to celebrate a 60th birthday. Truly a home from home. Chris gets our prize for the best host; unfailingly helpful, prompt with replies to any and all questions. Giving great information both regarding Ravensdowne and places of interest and, always important, recommendations of where to eat and drink. If you want a place to stay with a large group that is well maintained, clean, with all you need for an enjoyable, relaxing trip you have found it in Ravensdowne. We cooked and ate as easily as at home; which from experience is not always possible in holiday accommodation and we like to cook. Plenty of cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery. Space for groceries. We ate out in Berwick and the surrounding area, splendid meal at The Queens Head in Berwick. Another lovely meal in the Lord Crewe in Bamburgh. There are marvellous walks, places of interest, history and phenomenal beauty. Thank you Chris and your ladies who keep Ravensdowne in tiptop condition for us to enjoy.
