Food at Binchotan was delightful and the service - excellent. Housekeeping staff were very polite and accommodating.

I wasn't sure what the daily Resort Experience charge ($ 50 .00) represented on my final bill. At check-in I was told that the parking fee was $ 40.00 per day. This was confusing.

Amazing place but not for people who can’t walk far.

Beautiful grounds, pool and safe beach for kids. Nice places to paint.

The elevator was out of order so we had to walk far to do anything. We are elderly and thought our room was right next to the beach per the advertisement. When I questioned at check in the girl said “Yeah they do that”. She said that she upgraded us so we just accepted our room. The staff were all amazing and so accommodating though.

It was the crown jewel of the week long stay

It was for my son‘s 30th birthday and they acknowledged that and gave him special treats, which was very kind. They upgraded his room to an ocean view and left Prosecco.

The pool is the best you’ll find and the food and service are first class. The grounds are beautiful and position on the ocean with the beach is perfect. The bed is the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in.

This was the best resort I’ve ever stayed at!! The staff was so accommodating and friendly! Any ask they were able to handle! The facility was clean and overall just beautiful!! If I ever come back to Kona I would stay here again. I have 0 complaints!!

Beautiful Property with Inconsistent Service

The property is beautiful and the location is stunning. Some staff members were truly wonderful—warm, attentive, and professional, especially with kids. We also appreciated the follow-up from the Director of Quality, who acknowledged the service issues we faced and made a thoughtful gesture to make up for it, including a gift for our kids. That effort was genuinely appreciated and left us with a more positive impression.

Service was inconsistent—some staff were great, while others, particularly luggage service at check out were unfriendly or indifferent. We also had a disappointing experience at the beach restaurant and with the concierge. Lastly, we noticed many empty glasses and beer cans left unattended by the pool, which felt unsafe around children. All of that was acknowledged but the hotel as mentioned. One more note: there’s no option to tip staff via credit card, which made for an awkward experience when we couldn’t tip in cash.

We were fortunate to be grandfathered in with free parking, but it feels off that a resort charging hundreds of dollars doesn’t include parking. Given the abundance of land, its remote location, and the fact that the only way to get there is by car, charging for parking just feels in poor taste.

You have to pay for everything additionally. At the beach you get a sun bed for free but no shadow at all. There are no beach umbrellas. In case you want there shadow you have to rent a different type of bed.

The beds were old and mattress hard. Pillows could have been softer. Only one breakfast place. Would not recommend the photography center.

Look for other options

Shallow waters are good but all beach equipment needs to be rented to be used. Room amenities are next to none. Bring your own bottles as each guest won't get one. We ended up buying a couple of bottles for our kids from near by market.

Service and amenities are below par in terms of price to value. Parking is a hastle and soon to be valet parking only. Avoid booking while the resort is hosting a wedding or a convention. The service quality appears to be focused on those guests including amenities.

Some wonderful aspects, but fell a little short for a family stay

The welcome was great! The room was very nice! Luxury linens and custom bath products were great. We liked the guy who led us in an ocean snorkel experience.

It would have been better to have prompt service in the restaurant by the pool. It took 20 minutes for initial contact and another 20 minutes for fish and chips and a very generic cheese pizza. The pool could use some fun features. After the unusual wonderful welcome, the service level changed as we encountered less unhelpful people around the property and even at the concierge desk. Our ocean snorkel activity was after our room checkout and there was only an outdoor shower available to us on the facility. Overall we had a slightly less safe feeling as a family than in other resorts with kids. I think it’s a good place for couples but maybe not for older kids, but also not worth the cost.

Beautiful resort, on the pricey side with lots of extra's to pay for if you want more comfort.

Beautiful garden, pool, beach, and facilities. All is well-kept and taken care of. Nice choice of restaurants, some with live music.

The upselling - for simple things like proper shade on the beach and snorkeling equipment beyond one hour you pay extra. For the price we spend on the room, we expected these items to be included. On top of that the SPA and the restaurants are all on the pricey side. We were placed next to a service room which was very noisy every morning, we complained and got a small compensation upon check-out. Well handled, but could have been avoided.

The Fairmont Orchid is a stunning property. the accommodations were comfortable and plenty of amenities. we were gold guests and hotel staff was incredible… the lagoon has one of the best beaches!!! will be back again and again.

Way overpriced for what you get - 4 start at best

great location

Nice hotel, but a bit outdated. Not sure why it's 5 star - maybe in the past it deserved such a rating. We were very much looking forward to a luxury experience, but it was no better than some of the lesser rated properties in the area. Not worth the price at all. We will never return.
