Fun Stay

It was a fun stay because our room was so unique. It was roomy and quiet with amenities you don't always find like plenty of electric outlets, a good-sized bedside table, good reading light above the bed and two sinks in the bathroom. The cave-like (but large) shower was great. The location was perfect for a thorough exploration of the national park.

We wished the bathroom fan and light weren't both on the same switch because it was noisy. The power to the hairdryer was intermittent the one time I used it but it got the job done. The only cooking appliance is a microwave oven but we ate well at several local restaurants.

We liked this funky place. It was very different

Very unique and quiet. Room was like being in a cave. I really liked the idea of it being environmentally aware.

There is no where to sit comfortably in the room. I think the idea is for very active people who don’t do anything but sleep and shower in the room. A sofa would be nice instead of a huge mood light. Also a hot plate would be nice. Super small microwave couldn’t fit a slice of pizza.

A comfortable place to stay with a unique interior

A lovely and unique interior, very nice rooms and massive bathroom. And the drive to the volcano park is less than 10 minutes, so a great place to relax after a day of outdoor hiking and close enough to quickly drive back when the volcano starts to erupt at night. No contact with staff at the property, but convenient self check-in.

The kitchenette is nice looking but not the most practical to prepare a meal, eat, and wash dishes. We had somewhat loud neighbours. And we got many messages with instructions for arrival and departure (each in 3-fold).

Amazing place to stay and relax.

The room was amazing and the double shower was cool to experience, the koi pond was really beautiful, I dont know how it did after the eruption. But very fast to access valcanos national park! The garden is stunning. Communication with host was fast and easy to understand instructions. I would recommend!

We booked one night and checked in at 12am and left at 11am so I would say I just needed a longer stay to take in everything that the host had to offer.

Excellent windows overlooking pond and trees. Spacious shower. Creative surfaces. Custom faucets, sinks, etc. Comfortable bed. Nice heating system. Very clean.

Chalet is a Restful and Unique Stop

We loved the location so close to the park. The inside was so unique and provided us with everything we needed. We got food from the nearby Thaii food truck and ate at the large table using the plates, cloth napkins and silverware provided. Such a pretty stone shower!

Although it was in a good location, my husband couldn't sleep due to security concerns.

Location. Proximity to national park.

Kitchen facilities. Not enough plates or silverware, or means of cooking; sink a bowl put on a table. Gap between door and door frame jeopardized our privacy. The owner also requested our credit card info, including CCV info, to be written on a sheet left in the room. (There is no one on site to greet guests. You're expected to trust this vital info won't fall into the wrong hands. I did not.) This is a formula for disaster and identity theft.

Ideal vantage point in Volcano to start your expedition for Kilauea

This is a place inmidst of a tropical zone, a jungle so to speak. So don't expect all the amenities of a town stay. But the room with the view of a Japanese garden is great. The shower is a rainforest shower, which suites the overall theme of a Safari kind of place.

Since it's the jungle and an elevated location, it gets quite fresh during the night. There are extra blankets provided, but it did get quite cold in the room. The AC was a bit noisy, so it was turned off.

I love these unique FRED FLINTSTONE ROOMS!!!

I have stayed at the Chalet Kilauea several times and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the whimsical and marble “Fred Flintstone” countertops and the AMAZING STONE SHOWER!!

The room was very warm and I believe this was an unusually warm day in Volcano~ . Upon checking out, I let the hosts know about this warm room temperature issue, and they immediately responded to try and address this issue with providing additional fans and/or upgraded fans ~ I found this very encouraging and I am hopeful the host will follow through and make these changes .

Funky but clean

It's very funky, like with Fred Flinstone meets 80s vibes in a treehouse, but the bed linens were very clean. A little weird that there's no one on site working there. Volcano Lodge has affordable breakfast - which we recommend - but having something for breakfast would have been nice.

Fun, quirky property with a koi pond, benches, a gazebo and a little walk through nature. My room (109) was gigantic! It was actually three rooms. It had everything I could ever need.

Does the job for visiting the national park

The location is very close to the national park and the place has been very well looked after. The hosts are very helpful and friendly (via message)

The local restaurants are not very good and expensive. There is very little to do in the area outside of the national park. TV was very small which is needed given very little else to do in the area.

We DO NOT recommend Kilauea Chalet to other travelers.

Quiet location.

1) Room was tiny for the price we paid 2) shower stall is outdated and had mildew growing on the stone floor. I had to use rubber slippers to take a shower to avoid possible infection on my feet . My spouse chose not to bathe because the shower floor was unsanitary. 3) Maids did not clean up the shower before we arrived , leaving 2 wet used towels in the shower. 4) TV did not work the entire two days we were there. 5) Limited number of dishes , cups and utensils for two days , Only TWO total of each, requiring us to hand wash our dishes and utensils often for every meal we ate. 6) No microwave to heat our food. 7) Cozy Gas fireplace advertised on the website was unavailable for use. 8) Poor lighting in the room we rented at Chalet Kilauea 9) Only 7 small parking spaces. We had rented a suv and it was difficult to park in the small parking area provided for guests.

Extremely clean rooms in dark cave like interior

The rooms are extremely clean. There is a lot of rain in Volcano and these rooms were free of any musty moldy odors which is not uncommon in inns. The bathroom shower is extremely roomy.

I stayed in a standard queen size room, the only kind available through booking.com. The uniquely designed rooms look intriguing in photos are in reality impractical and uncomfortable. We stayed for 3 days using the kitchenette often. The kitchenette sink was a fancy double bowl waterfall model which is not a practical sink for dishwashing. There really was no place to sit and relax and lounge around comfortably after a long hike. There were only two uncomfortable tall chairs even when there was ample empty space for a sofa. There are a lot of steep steps to navigate. This inn would not be friendly for those with mobility issues.
