If we ever go to another concert at the 'Auditorium' then we will possibly book here again.

Good location, room was clean, bed was comfortable. Good view of Grant Park, Lake Michigan, etc. if you spend a little more for a room with a view. Definitely the closest place to stay if you are attending an event at the Roosevelt University Auditorium.

Room would benefit from some extra USB charging ports. Staff could have done a better job about warning us that their Halloween Party would cause us to have a 20 minute wait just to use an elevator, or maybe they could have redirected hotel guests to another bank of elevators. There will be an additional haunted room next year if what I heard about the big party is true.. We visited on Halloween weekend so that's on us.

Cool because it’s Historic, but definitely feels historic.

The hotel is really close to everything we wanted to do; a quick walk to the CTA lines and you can get anywhere in the city. The staff is also EXTREMELY kind and accommodating! The staff are not the issue here, everyone was friendly, helpful and kind.

The lobby is gorgeous and the rooms are…. not. The guest side of things just looks run down; peeling paint and wall paper, carpet that doesn’t match where it’s been patched, and a damp smell everywhere. We had to kill a cockroach in our bathroom and were (thankfully) moved rooms. The new room however felt like a downgrade from our previous room. The drain cover in the bathroom was completely loose, leading to an awkward shower trying to avoid stepping on it or the drain hole.

Great value for a great location.

Perfect for location for anything you would want to do. Easy to walk to most touristy places and just a couple blocks from the trains. Room was very large and comfortable.

The only complaints I would have for the hotel is that there was no thermostat to control the temperature (or at least we could not find one) Needed to open the windows to cool the room down. Which then made it extra noisy while trying to sleep. There also were only two pillows on the bed which for us was inconvenient cause my wife and I usually each sleep with 2 and most hotels we stay in have 4 on the bed.

Perfect location for Chicago Marathon but dated facilities needs an update.

Love the location — it’s right in front of the start and finish line of the Chicago Marathon, which couldn’t be more convenient! It’s also close to everywhere we wanted to visit, and there’s a bus stop right in front that takes you to most of the main attractions. The red awning around the building really stands out and makes it easy to spot from afar. We also loved the tallboy drawer cabinet in the room — perfect for unpacking and keeping all our clothes neatly organised during our stay.

The facilities are a bit dated. The bathtub was leaking, and water would spread across the bathroom floor, so we had to use towels to keep it under control. The maintenance team came to fix it, but it looked like there had already been several rounds of sealant applied, and unfortunately the issue wasn’t resolved — we just had to live with it during our stay. The air conditioning was also quite noisy, and at times we had to turn it off because it was too loud to sleep comfortably.

The Congress Hotel was very convenient, comfortable, but a lack of hot water.

Everything was very good except for the lack of hot water in the sink and shower. We made a complaint to the front desk and they advised to allow the water to run a few minutes. We did. still only warm water.

Right across the street from Lollapalooza!

AC barely worked, was older than dirt and rusty/dirty,, weird substance on curtains, drains were rusted, more than double the price for a festival stay versus regular days, halls were musty, elevators took forever and too small, no microwave in room but had 2 microwaves downstairs for thousands of people to use, some security out front was terrible and talked disgustingly to people, not enough ice machines on each floor and had to walk way too thru many hallways to get ice.

The location was great and it was reasonably priced for that area of Chicago.

It's an old hotel and is looking a little worn in hallways and rooms. Several gnats in shower wasn't great. Didn't appreciate the housekeeping knocking loudly on all the doors and shouting loudly early in the morning.

It is very dated. Condition is slightly better than poor. I asked staff to allow me to leave my tri gear a day ahead of my stay and they didn’t respond to emails to Booking.com messages. It was a simple ask that would have saved me a lot of hassle and they couldn’t be bothered.

Nothing. Any positive features were overshadowed by what happened during our stay.

This hotel is unsafe and completely unprofessional. While I was away, a man from security tried to force his way into our room twice while my wife was inside undressed and terrified. He did not properly identify himself and attempted to push the door open while she held it shut. When I reported this, instead of apologizing or addressing the situation, the Director of Security, Beatrice Ruiz, screamed and yelled at me in a completely unprofessional and hostile manner. The very person responsible for guest safety acted like a bully and made the entire situation worse. This is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one operating in downtown Chicago. The building itself is outdated and feels unsafe, but the real danger is the total lack of professionalism and accountability from management and security.

It was mediocre.

Loved the location of the property, the building was absolutely wonderful. Front desk staff was fabulous.

The room we got was nothing like the description on their website. The description on the website was big reason we chose this hotel. Room didn’t stay cool. Bed severely uncomfortable. Room was across from elevator and heard it open and close all night even with tv on and hallways had consistent smell of super strong marijuana.

I liked how it was in the heart of the city.

The workers were all very rude, besides room service. Can’t even ask a question and there was straight attitude. Had to call and ask for things more than once and got attitude because of it. The room was also pretty small says fits 4 people and the bed was pretty small for two people to share. Very humid in the room and hotel as well, smelled old. The door knob on the bathroom was not secured and there was leaking from our toilet. Some of the light switches hardly worked especially on the bed. The tv was very staticky as well.

Great location to see the Chicago downtown sites!

The location was perfect for our short downtown stay. We were right across from Grant Park and the Buckingham fountain. We walked and road bikes to all the sites we wanted to see. The strong rating is predominantly for the great location. We didn't spend much time in the room.

Nice after we got the room we paid for...

The room was very nice with ample space for our needs. Felt like an old luxury hotel and just had the most convenient location we could ask for. We came for a concert at the Huntington Bank Pavilion and being able to walk there through the park was just great.

On check-in we were given a smoking room. We did not ask for a smoking room. It was in a strange annex of the hotel and it was absolutely disgusting and was NOTHING like the rest of the hotel from a quality perspective. On top of the entire floor reeking of smoke, the AC wasn't working properly. We complained to the front desk and they told us there were no non smoking rooms available. We had to call back to be more persistent because there was no way we could stay in that room. They 'found' something and had us come back to the front desk to get the key. The worker was extremely rude to us, never even apologizing for placing us in a smoking room like that. It was a very unpleasant experience with the staff after a long day of travel and immediate disappointment with the first room. The room she did put us in was much better, and felt like what we paid for. I'm not sure whose idea it was to put random people in a smoking room, but this is an AWFUL policy. And staff should be attuned to that and respectful as well as apologetic. It would have been a much different experience if we were met with an apology for the room issue than feeling like we were annoying them.

Okay for quick tourist visit

The location is the best part about the property! Right on Michigan Ave and an easy walk to most everywhere. We parked in the Grant Park South parking and it was only a 5 minute walk to the hotel and much cheaper.

The building is old, but the rooms have been renovated and were clean. Unfortunately the air conditioning hardly worked - it was hot, stuffy and smelled of mildew. We were in an interior facing room so the view was not impressive - get a room facing the water or skyline.

A glamorous old lady from times gone by

The location was beautiful and my room overlooked the fountain which was breathtaking. The hotel echoes with its glamourous past and is such an authentic and wonderful place from which to explore the city.

The second time I booked in, my room couldn't have been more different. It was impossible to find and for a more expensive price sadly lacking in the amenities and standard of the previous booking. I think you have to very careful to pick your room when booking. Also, I find it very strange that I got better deals from third party providers than the hotel directly. The enormous difference in cost seems very strange.
