Nakiska Bear Ranch

Such a magical experience. Comfortable beds, great shower, well equipped kitchen in a log cabin where we could appreciate the peace, the ranch and animals. Great horse trek too with a knowledgeable and experienced guide.

We absolutely loved this property. Tried to stay an extra night but couldn’t arrange other plans. Literally our best accommodation in Canada. Learnt loads, such friendly hosts. The accommodation was newly refurbished and not just your average hotel room so you actually feel like you’re in Canada.

Isn’t a single thing that we’d look to change.

We were on a 3 week tour of Canada and felt we were not really experiencing the real Canada by stopping in hotels that were part of larger chains, so decided to step it up a little! We chose this place because it was out of the way, and at the same time it was in an area we wanted to explore, Wells Gray Park, with beautiful waterfalls and rivers to explore. Its a proper working ranch and therefore you’re surrounded by wonderful scenery and animals pottering around the paddocks which make for excellent interactions with nature. Not only that but Johan gave an excellent tour of the whole property and explained the history and future proposals to us in incredible detail. It was a pleasure to chat with the rest of the family too! The highlight for my wife was spotting the Black Bears in the lower meadow as they came out to feed later in the evening.

We could have stayed one more night than we did, that was a mistake! More nights needed!

The accommodations are excellent. The horseback rides are well managed. The hosts are a nice family. The spectacular 141-meter Helmcken Falls is only 20 km away.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights, had two horseback rides and a BBQ. After we checked out, Nakiska Ranch charged our credit card for a 4th night. Resolving this error was not easy or pleasant. Note also: The BBQ is DIY. The ranch provides a grill and you cook your own food. To have the dinner you want, buy your groceries in Clearwater.
