Room was extremely cramped. No place to layout luggage. Tv mounted to wall such that you could barely walk between the bed and the tv.

Loved the staff, the decor, it is connected to a restaurant which is convenient, how they upgraded an old building but kept the character of the original!
Only one of the 2 elevators was operational and with 11 floors that was a bitmoji cumbersome.

Location is great. Staff is nice and comunication with the hotel before arrival was excellent
The rooms are very small. I already knew this, as it’s not my first time staying at Palihotel San Diego, but this time the room was even smaller and had no window to the outside—only to a kind of dark courtyard.
Getting into the lift while carrying bags and having only one free hand was very tricky. I was afraid of getting my fingers caught in the scissor-style folding door, as you have to hold the main, very heavy door at the same time. I found this very inconvenient, and there was no one around to offer assistance.
The payment system I find it confusing as well. Also, when I checked out the room wasn't checked straight away and you never know if any issue will come up after you left. It should made simpler. The room cleaning service now has to be requested the day before which is something extra to remember when you are trying to have a relax time. I stayed for 3 nights and I forgot to request the cleaner in advance so my room was never cleaned.

Very cute and clean i liked the food and candy in the lobby
The upstairs would be nice if they did stuff in the winter, at least heaters

The room was comfortable and clean but small. The location of the hotel was great. The lift was a heritage lift, which made it look nice and different, but was extremely unpractical. The restaurant at the hotel was wonderful but with a limited variety on the menu.
The lift, the size of the room.

I like international breakfast but this was ok. Could get coffee and a ham sandwich from 7 am.
The marking of the stairs.

The hotel was very charming and was in a great location.
The roof top bar was closed due to a private event. Was a little bit noisy but was expected. The hotel restaurant was really good, great service.

The unique atmosphere and retro styling. Attention to little details. Staff was courteous and accommodating
Doesnt apply, everything about the stay was great. zero complaints

Rather an average stay. Poor recommendation for dinner and drinks and reception unable to help and offer the same rate we could receive online for a late booking so we had to go through the rigmoral of that which was tedious. Whilst it was nice enough, it was expensive for what it was.

The lift was really cool, and the decorations being old sailor themed were amazing. The Navy was a big part of my life and seeing the decor reflect sailing really made me feel welcome.
I think having an extra pair of blankets in the room would've been nice. The A/C was great but would not stay on the whole night and maybe sound proofing the windows to keep the nightlife ambient noise to a minimum.

Gorgeous hotel, the rooms are very cool and quirky. Loved the rooftop bar!
The shower wasnt running hot water and the air con wasnt working when we arrived. However once we told the staff it was fixed right away.

Location is in the heart of Gaslamp. There are various restaurants and clubs nearby, as well as the House of Blues. Valet parking is available, but it's $60 if you didn't grab the free offer on their website while booking. There are gated parking structures for cheaper around the area if you didn't manage to get it. The front door is opened by your door key for extra protection because the area is a little sketch at night. Despite being in the middle of clubs, our 4th floor room was surprisingly quiet. I like that they had a steamer rather than an iron. Bed was nice and comfortable. There's free lemon water and ice tea in the lobby. The decor is really pretty in a hipster kind of way. Love the duck decor on the 2nd floor.
There's only one person at a time at the front desk so checking in can take a while. If there's no one at the front desk and you're trying to get in the first time, you're left pounding on the front door until a worker or another guest shows up. There was only one elevator working during our stay. The hotel likes to talk about how it had the world's fastest elevator in 1914, but it's one of those gated elevators that you have to push open to enter and exit, and it was the size of a closet. Not disabled-friendly. Stairs were confusing in the way they're hidden behind doors. King size bed took up the entire room. There's like, half a clothes rack to hang your clothes on. There's no space in the fridge, it's all monetized drinks. All soap is Philosykos from Diptyque, which makes me question how they spend their budget. The shower water pressure feels like you're being waterboarded. The shower temperature was also finicky with how it jumps from straight ice to boiling at any point.

We loved the decor and comforts provided. The bed was VERY comfortable. The room was VERY clean and everything in place. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive to guests. The location was excellent.
The 2 elevators are very old and small, but charming. If both were working, it might not have been an issue, but with 11 floors and so many guests, 1 tiny elevator is not adequate.
The noise outside, even from the 10th floor, was significant. The original windows do not buffer sound. A white noise machine or small Bluetooth speaker would be a welcome addition to the room.

Kind of cute. It's a really old hotel and they play that up as much as they can.
Parking is $60/night. Amenities were awful. The elevator sucks in practice, there was no ice machine, no microwave, no fridge. Super loud club next door that keeps you awake at night. Rooms are tiny.

The Location of the hotel was very convenient. The was quiet, with plenty of light, and a comfortable bed with plush pillows. The hotel's theme was beautiful. Loved the aesthetics. The roof top was also great to work at and take in all the views. Staff was friendly as well.
The elevator is really nice. It's like a Time Machine. But getting in and out with your luggage can be a hassle. In another instance, the elevator did not want to make its way up, I had to open and close the gate several times with my hands occupied with 3 coffee's.

The decor was really nice and it looked very trendy and funky.
The noise at this location was extreme. Granted, it was a holiday weekend but still, there was so much noise from the surrounding nightlife venues that the room was shaking. The elevator was extremely tedious because of how old and tiny it was and having to wait so long for it to arrive. There was coffee no milk and no room in the fridge which was basically a mini bar.

Too noisy at night and one of the elevator not working and the other one took forever

I loved the vintage boutique feel it had to it. This is my second time staying at a Pali hotel. Loved the location and the beds were comfortable. I also loved their Pet program with the luxurious bed they provided my dog, as well as treats and an adorable toy.
We realized in the night they never provided his bed or the ceramic bowls to feed our dog, but a quick call to the reception desk had it delivered immediately.
They have two elevators that you manually have to open and close. However, during our stay there was only one working and I knew it was going to be a problem on a Sunday when we were going to check out. We ended up having to take the stairs all the way down from the 9th floor with our dog, dog stroller and luggage’s.
The small king room also was too small for us to be comfortable. There was hardly any room. If we had any large luggage’s it would’ve been a problem.
I believe you’re also supposed to notify the reception desk to clean out your room. We were only there for a quick weekend, but our trash filled up quickly in one day with our dog being with us. So it was a bit irritating having to ask them to at least change out our trash.

The hotel staff were friendly and very accommodating. Our bartender at the hotel bar was incredible! She is the embodiment of hospitality and we enjoyed getting to talk with her and enjoy her delicious suggestions.
The hotel was down to one elevator and they are very slow. We were asked if we would like a high floor, which typically would be wonderful. They placed us on the top floor…but didn’t tell us about the elevator at the time. We took the stairs most of our stay. 11 floor walk up. Not the end of the world but could have been communicated better. They also, oddly only stock the room for single occupancy? Only one set of towels for two people. We requested more but they didn’t come in time so 4 showers with one towel.

Location in the gaslamp quarter is perfect
Very small rooms, sink in the main bedroom, lifts are not easy to use, and extremely slow you can wait 20 mins on a weekend.

The staff were absolutely awesome and went above and beyond to handle any requests we made. The King Suite was great, with plenty of room and seemed like a small apartment. We loved the quirkiness of the hotel, with it's old elevator with manual doors (from 1913!). AC worked great, bed was comfortable and the shower was awesome as well. Has a plethora of small touches that really make it charming.
2 of the 3 nights that we were there the wifi was not working. There was only one VERY tiny trashcan in the bathroom for the whole King Suite unit that basically consists of 2 rooms, a bath and a hallway. This lone receptacle quickly filled up and provided nowhere near enough space for trash. As the location is downtown, you are going to deal with some characters when you depart the hotel to head over a couple blocks to the Gaslamp Quarter. We encountered a number of homeless and some with obvious mental disorders that made us uncomfortable. It was readily apparent why the hotel doors are locked rather early (your room key is used to gain entry to the lobby). In addition, on our final night there was a rather large police response that woke us up at 2:00 AM (and we were on the 9th floor), as you can easily hear everything on the street level below. That is a trade off for an older hotel, as the soundproofing is not what it is in newer locations.

Room is a bit dated but that's part of the charm. Bed was super comfortable. Toiletries were nice.
Lift is too slow. Downtown San Diego is not that appealing, would pick La Jolla cove instead.

The retro theme that they put into restoring this hotel is very nice. The menu at the next door at the attached restaurant is good. They have kept the legacy elevators which, be advised, are heavy to work, but for 95% of people, it'll be an interesting experience. The old heavy concrete construction makes this a very quiet hotel. The staff is helpful and friendly. The location is great. Just a couple blocks from the trolley/light rail. And walkable to the convention center and Petco field. The price was great compared to chain hotels. While not perfect, it was a good comparative value.
There were significant maintenance problems in our room, so we got them to move us to another room which didn't go as smoothly as it should have, but the replacement room was fine. The rooms have an extensive mini-bar which I personally don't like at all, and the few packaged goods I looked at were expired. I would suggest getting rid of the mini-bar and have the bar sell carry out and keep the bar open longer. The bar in the restaurant closed much too early. It would be great if one could have a drink before going to the room after returning from a show or dinner. The staff is sometimes busy during slower times of the day and they should add a bell. When we checked in, no one was around and I called the number and no one answered, but eventually someone arrived.

the cocktail at the bar
First of all, check-in was stressful. I had luggage with me, and it was extremely difficult to get into the elevator. I really struggled, and there was no staff around to help. Once in the room, I noticed that the shower drain was clogged, making it hard to use properly. The bed was too small and not comfortable to sleep in. To make things worse, the air conditioning broke, which made the room very uncomfortable overall.

Great value and classic vintage European inn vibe.

Stayed one night to go to a concert at the nearby Balboa theater. The location was perfect. The French theme deco was very cute. Good size bathtub. The bath robe was a nice touch. Staff are friendly and helpful. I wish I had a chance to go to the rooftop bar!
It's an historical building with old construction design, and if your room is facing the tiny quadrangle (old fire escape?), it's dark and you have to keep the blinds/drapes closed all the time because proximity of the neighbor rooms windows are so close and directly facing each other. The room pictures in Booking.com (sunlight coming from windows) are deceiving. If you are claustrophobic like me, tell them ahead. I had to switch the room from Superior King to regular King which had a tiny crack of sky from the window. (The rate difference refund wasn't offered.)
The elevators are over 100 years old, so they have double doors that you have to open/close by hand. That's kinda fun to do the first couple of times, but it gets old quickly because they are very heavy and hard to handle by yourself especially when you have luggage.

Decorated with good taste.
The room was very disappointing. The windows opened onto a tiny inner courtyard, and since we were on the 2nd floor of an 11-story building, there was almost no natural light. The room felt dark and closed-in throughout our stay.
Only one elevator was working, for 11-story, the waiting time to reach the rooftop and the very limited offer for drinks we found up there made it unworthy.

The location is great. It's a very cute neighborhood. I was there for Comic Con, and it was also my first time in San Diego. I did most of the things I wanted on foot and got a hop-on hop-off bus for a day to explore the rest of the city. The decor is beautiful, full of thoughtful details. Be sure to check out the rooftop, it has a lovely view of the city and is a really nice spot to hang out.

Very convenient location in the Gaslamp quarter, with pretty easy parking nearby. We loved the historic interiors and the beautiful fixtures throughout the room. Decor was kitschy in a good way. Bed was comfortable. We liked the diner next door, and we also appreciated that this is a dog friendly hotel.
Our room was very small, and the window was 90% covered up by the air conditioning unit, so very little light was able to enter, and we were not able to look out to the street. The window was also dirty, which further reduced the availability of natural light. The overall effect was to make us feel a bit claustrophobic.
Housekeeping was by request only, but when we put in a request for a change of sheets on our bed, they simply dropped off a new top sheet and some towels in our room; they did not change the sheets or even give us a full set of bedding so we could do it ourselves.
This is a pet-friendly hotel, but they were unable to provide dog bowls when we asked for them, which was surprising.
The rooftop lounge was closed to guests for a private party for most of the day we spent there, which would have been more disappointing if the rooftop had come equipped with more than some outdoor sofas and potted plants.

It was clean and well maintained.
It was an older building, which maybe I should have been aware of, so some things I can chalk up to that. A lot of natural light due to the large windows, but because of the large windows the room heated up very quickly from the warm weather outside which made the a/c work double time. During my stay the room was at 77 when I arrived and leaving the a/c on at 65 for the entire stay only lowered the temperature to 75. There was no vent in the bathroom so even a lukewarm shower heated it up and the humidity just sort of stayed stuck. I’m a relatively small person and the shower (in my room) was small. I could touch both sides at the same time with my elbows. The space to walk between the wall and the end was maybe 1.5 feet wide, so I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you have more than a couple bags. Hardly any room for my 2 carry on bags. Older building also meant older elevator and tiny, for everyone, including staff. Ending up using the stairs because of the wait or the fact that it would get stuck on floors. It’s a very nice hotel, the evening staff was very friendly. Room service was unavailable but not sure why. But the room was clean and the bed was comfortable, albeit very warm even with the a/c on.

I loved the style of the room and the antiques. They did renovate it. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and we loved the roof top ! Even though the bar wasn't opened for the two days. Maybe on weekends only?
We got charged for mini bar items. We made sure we did not touch the food or mini bar items in the hotel, which were overpriced. If it wasn't for me checking my bank account and final checkout receipt from the hotel, I wouldn't have noticed the extra charges. I texted them about them about situation. They said they would notify management and 2 hours later they refunded me my money. Also parking was a lot but hey now we know for next time. Valet is offered which is good 👍
