About this house rental

In honor of Raymond S. Kent and his committment to God and Country, grandsons Martin and Raymond Coglas (along with friends of the Newcastle community) designed and created this Kent’s Knoll property. Inspired by the iconic landscape of the Black Hills, the structural and architectural elements of the home feature locally sourced and milled Ponderosa Pine and Red Cedar. Interior design and “live edge” finshes further emphasize and encapsulate both the ruggedness and beauty of the Wyoming landscape. Situated at the doorstep of the Black Hills, Kent’s Knoll offers convenient access to endless wilderness and some of our country’s greatest natural treasures. As guests, we invite you to rest and relax in this home inspired by and built in honor of our grandfather.

The town of Newastle itself was founded by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad in 1889 as a railroad and coal-mining town. In 1890, Newcastle became the county seat of Weston County. Early Newcastle featured 14 saloons, gambling houses, and dance halls, earning a wild reputation with miners and railroad workers "shooting up the town". Despite its rough start, residents quickly established law and order, built a roundhouse, and made Newcastle a major railroad division headquarters. In its early days, Newcastle functioned as a primary supply depot for the booming neighboring coal camp of Cambria, which sat a few miles north and eventually became a ghost town. Following its coal era, the discovery of regional oil fields transformed Newcastle into an oil-refining center. The refining of oil continues to this day at the location of the “Wyoming Refinery” located along Main Street in the center of town. Railroad transport of coal through town also continues daily, helping to supply and support the energy needs of our nation.
