About this cabin rental
The Story - The owners bought this cabin 14 years ago to be near family in Blowing Rock, and over the years it's become the home they've had the longest. They've improved it a little nearly every year without changing what they loved about it in the first place: they finished the basement into a game room, added a second deck with a fire table, and in 2025 redid the kitchen. It still feels like a real mountain cabin - it just works better than most.
The Setting - You're in Willow Mountain, a quiet community of full-time neighbors and a handful of vacation homes, tucked into the woods above Willow Valley between Boone and Valle Crucis. Mornings here are coffee on the deck in a rocking chair, watching the clouds roll through the ridges and seeing what wildlife wanders by. Evenings are the hot tub and the stars. Downtown Boone and App State are about 5 miles away, Valle Crucis and the Mast General Store about 4, and Blowing Rock about 10.
The Main Level - An open living, dining and kitchen space under warm wood ceilings, with a gas-log fireplace, a TV with surround sound, and room for everyone to be together without being on top of each other. The kitchen was fully redone in 2025 with a new GE range, and it's stocked for real cooking: dishwasher, microwave, drip coffee maker, kettle, blender, toaster, rice maker, baking sheets and wine glasses. The primary suite is on this floor - a king bed, its own balcony, and an ensuite full bath with a tub and shower - so nobody in that room has to climb stairs to sleep. There's a half bath on this level too.
Upstairs - A queen bedroom and a twin bedroom with two twin beds, a full bath with a tub and shower, and a loft set up as an office, reading nook and little library. Good light, good WiFi, and a quiet place to get a little work done or lose an afternoon in a book.
The Game Room - The finished lower level is pure fun. Ping pong, foosball, a standing multi-game arcade cabinet, a Wii loaded with games, and a stack of old-school VHS tapes with a player to match. Rainy days, snowy days, after-dinner rematches - this is where everyone ends up.
Outside - The main deck carries the 6-person hot tub (new in 2024) and the rocking chairs. Down on the lower deck there's a propane fire table for s'mores and long conversations as the mountain air cools off, plus a gas grill and an outdoor dining area.
Getting Comfortable - A heat pump with propane backup keeps the house warm in winter, and there's central A/C for summer. Ceiling fans and room-darkening shades in every bedroom. WiFi is 750 Mbps fiber on a mesh system with units on all three levels, so it reaches everywhere. Every bedroom has its own Roku TV, and SlingTV brings the basic cable channels. Hair dryers are in both full baths.
Family-Ready - Kids' toys and books, board games, window locks, and a game room that keeps everyone busy. Max 6 guests, including children and infants.
Getting Here - The last stretch is a gravel road maintained and plowed by the community's POA, and it's steep in places - a real mountain road. In winter weather, AWD or 4WD is HIGHLY recommended. The driveway parks 4 cars.
Good to Know - Self check-in with a smart lock. Three levels with stairs between them and no elevator, though the primary suite and a half bath are on the main floor. There are two exterior cameras: one on the driveway, with a posted sign beside it, and one mounted to look out at the view that never captures people. This is bear country, so trash stays bagged and in the bear-proof container. No pets. NON SMOKING PROPERTY. No parties or events.
I provide all the linens, towels and starter toiletries, and I'm local if anything comes up. If you have any questions at all, just reach out. I'm here to help!
