About this villa rental
Villa La Pausa is an architect-designed home from the early 1970s, located on the southern slope of the Scholben, a densely forested mountain about 600 meters high overlooking Bad Lauterberg. Clean lines, spacious volumes, exposed concrete, and large glass surfaces characterize the house, warmly complemented by original mahogany wood in the built-in fixtures and doors. During the careful renovation, the original character was deliberately preserved and adapted to meet today’s standards. From the front door, the hiking trail leads directly up to the Scholben—after just a few steps, you’re in the middle of the forest, and the cross-country ski trail is also within walking distance. On the other side of the house, a private path across the approximately 2,500 m² hillside property invites you to take a stroll down into the valley: less than 15 minutes to town.
Spanning 260 m² of living space, the home features three levels that can accommodate up to 8 guests. The centerpiece is the single-level main floor with an open living and dining area, a separate kitchen, a wood-burning stove, and a dining table for 10 people. Large panoramic windows bring the landscape into the house, and the wraparound balcony extends across the entire living area—which serves as the main living space in the summer—with seating on each side and views of the greenery. This level also features a bedroom and a shower room, allowing for cooking, dining, living, and sleeping all on one level.
The upper floor features three additional bedrooms—one of which has its own workspace complete with a monitor and connections—as well as a separate office and gaming room. This is also where the highlight of the house is located: a custom-built sauna with a large panoramic window. The view stretches across the valley, the Harz Mountains opposite, and, in winter, up into the sky above the lights of Bad Lauterberg. On this level is also the covered balcony with outdoor furniture: the perfect spot to cool off after a sauna session, even in rain or snow.
In addition to the sauna, the home features two bathrooms and a separate guest restroom, a record player with a vinyl collection, B&O speakers, a 65-inch TV, air conditioning, Wi-Fi throughout the house, as well as a washer and dryer. Down by the garden is the ground-level, covered patio with a Weber grill and seating for all guests, inviting you to enjoy a convivial evening outdoors.
The garage and parking spaces are located above on the hillside. From there, about 30 steps lead down to the house via a short path through the garden, which sets the tone the moment you arrive. Beyond the house, the view opens up to the valley and the wooded Harz hills across the way—you’ve arrived before you’ve even unlocked the door.
