About this house rental
This isn’t just a house, located 80 meters from the sea in Skala Kallonis. It’s a retreat. A 150-square-meter triplex villa spread over three light-filled floors, quietly situated on the most peaceful edge of the village, right where the last houses end and the famous Kalloni Wetlands begin.
We designed it for a leisurely, spacious stay for six people. Inside, everything is cool and quiet beneath your feet, with elegant marble floors. The house breathes with you—quiet, powerful air conditioning in every room and complete darkness when you need it, thanks to blackout curtains and shutters, for that deep, restful Aegean sleep.
On the first floor, a bright living room and a fully equipped kitchen where you’ll find absolutely everything you need—to cook the fresh vegetables you bought that morning in the village square. Produce from the soil of Lesbos, grown by small, local farmers who still farm traditionally and organically. Enhance your dishes with Lesbos’s famous, healthful olive oil—the “liquid gold”—from olive trees that have been rooted here for centuries.
And if you wake up very early, from the balcony of the attic you’ll see small fishing boats gliding out into Kalloni Bay like fairies, their lights still flickering on the dark horizon., If you’d like to meet them, you’ll find them upon their return in the village’s small, picturesque harbor—just a few meters from your house—as they bring the bay’s treasures ashore: the world-famous Kalloni sardine, a rare delicacy with a PDO seal, and many other kinds of fish.
Upstairs are two secluded bedrooms. And then there’s the attic—our favorite secret. An open, poetic space with a double bed and a sofa, separated by a thick, heavy curtain for privacy. It features its own bathroom, a small kitchenette for your first morning coffee, and a small, private collection of folk art—old woven pieces and objects crafted by my great-grandmothers, preserved in a glass display case. Not for use, just to transport you to another time.
A total of three bathrooms, one on each floor, so no one ever has to wait. Three balconies—one with a view of the sea and two overlooking the wetlands. Three smart TVs with international channels and Netflix, plus fast Wi-Fi that actually works. Washer and dryer discreetly tucked away in the bathroom.
Step out into your own private garden with real grass. A pergola for shade and a gas grill for long summer evenings. Be sure to serve the local cheeses! Ladotyri Mytilinis and Feta Mytilinis, both with the PDO seal. What makes them so special—and so sought after by top chefs—is the traditional aging method and the fact that the sheep and goats graze on aromatic herbs growing on volcanic soil, thanks to the island’s incredibly rich and unique flora. And be sure to try an ice-cold glass of ouzo from Mytilene—our national drink with a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) designation, distilled from anise from Lesbos—or a glass of wine from our volcanic vineyards. Pets are welcome at no extra charge; we love them dearly. Convenient parking on the wide, quiet street in front of the house. No garage on the property.
You’re right in the heart of the action, yet in absolute tranquility. Just 50 meters away, children will find a free public playground and, in the summer, a magical open-air movie theater under the stars. You’re 400 meters from the lively square in Skala Kallonis with its taverns and ouzo bars, yet you’ll sleep to the sounds of crickets and birds.
A paradise for birdwatchers—right on your doorstep.
Your house is located directly on the Skala Kallonis Marsh, featured in international birdwatching guides. Wild nature at your feet! Right next to your front door lies a small, sheltered paradise. A 76,000-square-meter wetland, part of the European Natura 2000 network. A rare sight right at your fingertips—watch rare birds from your balcony! It’s an important resting place for hundreds of migratory and wading birds—flamingos, herons, brown spoonbills, stilt-walkers—and teems with rusty geese, marsh turtles, and amphibians.
And Lesbos surrounds you. Skala Kallonis is the heart of the island. From here, the world-famous town of Molyvos with its castle is 30 minutes to the north. The city of Mytilene to the east is 40 minutes away. The surreal Petrified Forest of Sigri and the surfing paradise of Eresos to the west are 45 minutes away. See a different world every day and always be back in time for sunset at your own grill.
This is a home for people who love nature, light, wide-open spaces, and the authentic, carefree Greek summer. Not a hotel room. A home. I’m afraid that if you stay long enough, your heart will become a little bit Greek.
