Outdoor Living

Intimate patios and dining areas give you options for every moment—morning coffee, afternoon lounging, or dinner under the stars. Natural flagstone perimeters the entire home for a scenic walking path. Over thirteen different species of cacti, trees and shrubs immerse you in desert serenity. Stargaze from the hot tub or hike the natural rock formations just steps from your door in the backyard.

Wildlife

You're not alone out here—and that's the magic of it. Friendly desert dwellers often make an appearance: coyotes (typically on Sundays, guess it’s their off day), lizards sunbathing on the rocks, bobcats in the hills, jackrabbits, quail, roadrunners, and birds galore. You might even meet Shelly, our resident desert tortoise and unofficial property manager.

We're available 24/7 if you need anything.

Desert Contemporaine is tucked away in the Partlett Mountains of Joshua Tree, where modern architecture meets vast desert landscapes and uninterrupted skies. The neighborhood is characterized by large parcels, native vegetation, striking boulder formations, and a sense of quiet that feels increasingly rare.

While the setting feels wonderfully secluded, you're never far from the area's most iconic destinations. Joshua Tree National Park, local galleries, boutiques, coffee shops, and dining options are all within a short drive. Spend the day exploring the park's otherworldly terrain, wandering through town, or discovering the creative spirit that has drawn artists, designers, and musicians to the High Desert for decades.

As evening arrives, the landscape transforms. Golden hour stretches across the desert floor, the mountains glow in the distance, and the night sky emerges as one of the region's greatest attractions. On clear nights, countless stars appear overhead, creating an experience that feels both grounding and expansive.

This is a place where mornings begin slowly, afternoons unfold at their own pace, and the desert itself becomes part of your stay.

There is so much to take in while in Joshua Tree, which is why we've narrowed down some of the top hot spots for you:

JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK: West Entrance Station (8 miles), Barker Dam (19 miles), Wall Street Mill (19 miles), Sky's The Limit Observatory and Nature Center (22 miles), Keys View (24 miles), Arch Rock (30 miles), Cottonwood Visitor Center (57 miles)

THE GREAT OUTDOORS: Black Lava Butte and Flat Top Mesa (16 miles), Giant Rock (20 miles), Cactus to Clouds Trail (40 miles) Indian Canyons (44 miles), Coachella Valley Preserve (48 miles)

POPULAR ATTRACTIONS: World Famous Crochet Museum (3 miles), Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum (4 miles), Pappy+Harriets (15 miles), The Integratron (17 miles), Old Schoolhouse Museum (18 miles), Tortoise Rock Casino (19 miles)

If you’re considering skipping town for a few days and shifting from sand to snow, then consider the following:

DAY TRIPS: Palm Springs (39 miles), Big Bear Lake (68 miles)

AIRPORT: Palm Springs International Airport (43 miles)

Comfort
Desert Contemporaine is designed for year-round comfort. Enjoy central A/C and roller shades to stay cool during warm desert days, and central heating to keep cozy on cool desert nights.

Travel
Getting here is easier than you might expect. About a quarter mile down Calle Los Amigos, the road shifts from paved to unpaved — you’ll see a sign marking the change. The dirt road is well-maintained, but please drive slowly (10 mph) to avoid bumps and keep dust down for the neighbors. A 4-wheel-drive vehicle isn’t required, though you should watch for dips and puddles, especially after rain — some areas of the High Desert do flood.

Wind Advisory
The desert wind is no joke. Gusts can be fierce, so secure any outdoor items and keep bottles and glasses inside when it’s blowing hard — the wind takes no prisoners.

Parking
Parking is simple and spacious. Up to four vehicles — including SUVs and pickup trucks — can park along the south (left) side of the home, just outside the main entrance. Please do not drive or park behind the house. For low-clearance cars (think Corvettes, Lamborghinis, or similar), enter and exit the driveway at an angle to avoid scraping the underbody of the car.
