About this house rental
One of the Finest Homes in Eagle's Nest:
The Lodges at Eagles Nest is one of the premier gated mountain communities in the High Country, and The Rock is one of the finest homes inside its gates. It is not a rental built to be rented — it is a custom timber-frame estate on eight private acres, and it shows in every joint, stone and beam.
The Waterfall:
The Rock is built into a granite cliff, and a private 60-foot waterfall falls down that rock face a few steps from the house. It lands in a hand-stacked stone basin at the edge of the patio. You can hear it from the fire pit, watch it through the two-story glass doors in the entry, look up at it from the jetted tub in the primary bath, and stand under it while the grill heats up. It runs on a pump with a switch, so it's on when you arrive and you can shut it off at night if you'd rather sleep to crickets.
The cliff sits behind the house, which means the front opens up completely: roughly 270 degrees of long-range Blue Ridge views, east through south to west. You get sunrise off one ridge and sunset off another, from the same deck.
Eight Private Acres, and the Quiet That Comes With Them:
Plenty of homes in Eagles Nest sit close to their neighbors. This one does not. The Rock has eight acres to itself near the top of the mountain, and the granite ridge behind it blocks whatever little sound there is. What you hear out here is the waterfall, the wind moving through the hemlocks, and not much else. No headlights sweeping across the ceiling, no music from the next deck over, no one walking past. It is genuinely quiet, and at this elevation that is rarer than the view.
That's the part guests photograph. The rest of the house earns its keep just as hard.
The Home:
This is real timber-frame construction: hand-peeled full-round log posts, king-post trusses overhead, tongue-and-groove knotty pine ceilings, and a staircase built from hand-bent branches that reads as sculpture. A curved fieldstone wall climbs two full stories inside the entry, behind a front door with a round porthole window and forged iron strap hinges. Four bedrooms, four and a half baths, three levels, sleeps 13.
Main Level:
The great room opens under the log trusses to a two-story wall of windows and layered Blue Ridge ridgelines fading to blue haze. A fieldstone wood-burning fireplace runs hearth to ceiling with a rough-hewn timber mantle and a large flat screen above it. It flows into the kitchen — dove-gray cabinetry, marbled stone counters, a stainless dual-oven range under a stainless hood, a built-in stainless refrigerator, and a wood farm-table island with seating for three. There's a coffee bar with both a Keurig and a drip brewer, a dedicated laundry room with a farmhouse sink, and a live-edge dining table with a bench and leather chairs beneath a timber-box chandelier.
The primary suite is on this level with French doors to the deck. Its bath is the one people talk about: a jetted soaking tub set into a bay of black-framed glass that looks straight up the waterfall, a mosaic-tiled walk-in shower with a rain head, stone vessel sinks on live-edge counters, birch-bark cabinet fronts, and two walk-in closets.
Upper Level:
Two more king suites with private baths — one with a jetted tub and a bay window, one with two separate glass shower stalls and a triple window bank looking clear to the horizon. Between them is a true office with built-in bookshelves, wavy glass-front cabinets, a desk, and French doors onto the deck. Its window frames the rock face and the falling water.
Lower Level:
This is where the group lands after dinner. The pool table sits inside its own frame of full log columns and beams. An arched stacked-stone wood-burning fireplace anchors the lounge, with a sectional, a big flat screen, and a wet bar with two stainless beverage fridges. French doors open onto a patio at the base of the rock. The bunk room holds two custom playhouse-style bunks — peaked roofs, cutout windows, hand-painted evergreens climbing the wall — with a bath of its
own. A queen sleeper sofa and a twin sleeper sofa round out the sleeping.
Outside:
Covered decks wrap the house on stacked-stone piers behind railings woven from hundreds of forked branches. A separate timber dining pavilion is built hard against the granite, sheltering a ten-foot concrete table under a wrought-iron lantern. A wood-burning fire pit is set into a natural alcove in the rock. The in-ground hot tub is set into the stone patio looking out over the long-range view, with the fire pit and the waterfall behind it — mountains in front of you, firelight and falling water at your back. There's a gas grill, a stone garden archway with an iron gate, a covered breezeway to the waterfall courtyard, and a lawn clearing in the trees.
Eagles Nest:
You have the run of the Eagles Nest community, with plenty to explore and enjoy throughout the property. The Great Camp features an amphitheater with a summer concert series, BBQ pavilion, mini golf, playground, and a 24/7 general store. The North Pavilion offers basketball and pickleball courts, a ball field, dog park, and fire pits, while Camp Eagles Nest features tennis, disc golf, archery, and fishing ponds. Miles of hiking and UTV trails wind throughout the community, offering endless opportunities to enjoy the mountain scenery and outdoors.
For dining, Epic Chophouse, the community's on-site steakhouse, is perched atop a knoll with panoramic mountain vistas. The beautiful restaurant features soaring ceilings, expansive glass walls, striking artwork, and covered decks with fire pits where guests can enjoy spectacular summer sunsets. Open year-round, the bar and dining room, complete with a massive stone fireplace, also provide a cozy gathering place during the colder months. During the slower season, Epic Chophouse may occasionally accept reservations, while during busier months, stopping by the bar is often the best option. Getting Here
Banner Elk is about 15 minutes down the mountain, Boone about 30. Beech Mountain Resort is roughly 10-15 minutes, Sugar Mountain 15-20, Appalachian Ski Mountain about 25. Grandfather Mountain, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster and Elk River Falls are all easy day trips. You'll want a car, and 4WD or AWD from November through March — the roads are plowed, but they're steep and winding.
