About this house rental
The house
Our fisherman's cottage sits at the end of a quiet private lane in the heart of Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer. Fully renovated, it sleeps four in two bedrooms, each with its own shower room and separate WC.
Downstairs, a 30 m² living room opens onto the kitchen, which in turn opens onto the terrace and garden. The first floor holds a generous 23 m² bedroom; the second, a 12 m² room set under the eaves. Each has a king-size bed (180 × 200) that we can split into two singles on request. A travel cot is available, also on request.
A kitchen built for cooking
This is probably what sets the house apart. We cook a great deal, and we've fitted this kitchen out the way we would our own: induction hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer. Alongside them, a multi-function food processor, a hand mixer, a blender, a kettle, a toaster, a filter coffee machine and a capsule machine, plus a full set of pans, dishes and utensils.
Enough to cook a proper meal for four rather than simply get by. And to cook the cockles you gathered that morning, which around here happens rather often.
Garden and terrace
Our enclosed 40 m² garden comes into its own in summer: hydrangeas, a trumpet vine, a grapevine, raspberry canes, a peach tree and strawberries you're welcome to pick. The terrace seats six around a large table, with a Weber gas barbecue and griddle just outside the kitchen door.
Everything on foot
The village shop is 90 m away, the square and its bar 50 m, the nearest restaurant the same. La Banche beach is 220 m away, a four-minute walk.
Saint-Jacut sits on a narrow peninsula ringed by eleven beaches. The GR 34 coastal path, known in France as the customs officers' path, loops right around it. The Saint-Jacut stretch is one of the best known on this coast and it starts a few steps from the house, running north towards Saint-Cast and on to Cap Fréhel.
What we'd point you towards
Île des Ébihens. At low tide you can walk out to the island from the Pointe du Chevet. It's the finest walk in the area, with one condition: take the tide timetable with you. The crossing closes quickly and there is no second chance. We hand you the tide tables when you arrive and take the time to explain how to read them.
Foraging at low tide. Spring tides uncover a wide expanse of shore, and the village is well known for it. Cockles, clams, velvet crabs. We'll show you the good spots and the legal minimum sizes.
Sailing. The sailing school runs week-long courses for children and adults alike, and hires out boats by the hour if you already know what you're doing.
Saint-Jacut abbey. Well worth visiting, and our guests come back delighted every time, whether or not the history is their thing.
Château du Guildo. A few kilometres away, these ruins look out over the Arguenon estuary. A good half-day with children.
Further afield: Dinan is 30 minutes by car, Saint-Malo 25, Mont-Saint-Michel a little over an hour. The Saint-Malo ferry terminal is 25 minutes door to door.
Parking
One parking space is reserved for you in our private courtyard, off the street and out of sight.
Good to know
The village market runs every Friday morning and closes our access lane between 7 am and 3 pm. If your arrival or departure falls on a Friday, we'll let you know in advance and plan around it together. It's a constraint, but the market is well worth it.
The house has fibre broadband and a smart TV. Bed linen, bath towels and beach towels are all provided, and the end-of-stay clean is included in the price.
You'll also find enough on hand to see you through the first few days without a shopping run: toilet paper, soap, shower gel, kitchen roll, washing-up liquid, laundry detergent, and kitchen basics such as olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper.
We live fifteen minutes away and hand over the keys in person. We stay reachable throughout your stay without ever getting in the way.
