Eating and drinking. Surfers Pavilion on Ferny Avenue does oysters and marina views, Citrique at 158 Ferny Avenue does seafood. At the beachfront, Sandbar at 52 Esplanade handles breakfast, Seascape Bar & Restaurant runs three levels of seafood, and Hurricane’s Grill does steak with an ocean outlook. Cavill Avenue has Grill’d and White Rhino Bar & Eats at Circle on Cavill. BOBs Beer on Elkhorn Avenue is a microbrewery, Benny’s Burgers is on Hanlan Street, Longboards Laidback Eatery sits at Northcliffe Terrace. Short drive: Yamagen at QT Gold Coast, Fu Manchu on Chevron Island, Valyn Thai and Edgewater Dining on Via Roma, and Palette at HOTA, which holds three chef hats.
Beach, river and things to do. Surfers Paradise Beach is a short walk east, patrolled. Budds Beach on the river side is calmer and good for paddling. The Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets run along the Esplanade several evenings a week. The observation deck at the top of the Q1 tower is a walk away, and HOTA on Bundall Road has galleries and outdoor performances. Sea World is ten minutes by car at Main Beach; Warner Bros. Movie World, Wet'n'Wild and Dreamworld are 25 to 30 minutes north.
Getting around. The nearest G:link tram station is about a six-minute walk, and the line runs south to Broadbeach, Pacific Fair and the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in roughly ten minutes, north through Main Beach and Southport to Helensvale. Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta is about 23 kilometres, half an hour by car. Brisbane Airport is an hour and a quarter.
Practical. A Coles supermarket a few minutes away covers a weekly shop. Pindara Private Hospital at Benowa has a 24-hour emergency centre, and Gold Coast University Hospital at Southport has its own tram station. Griffith University Gold Coast is fifteen minutes north, Bond University at Robina twenty. People First Stadium at Carrara and Cbus Super Stadium at Robina are an easy drive.
