About this cabin rental

Ski Haus: A Government Camp Cabin Backing to Mt. Hood National Forest

This two-story alpine cabin has stood at the edge of Mt. Hood National Forest since the 1940s. The backyard runs into National Forest land and the Glade Trail - guests who bus up to Timberline Lodge can ski the Glade Trail back to the door. Three bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms sleep up to 8 guests across 7 beds.

The Home

Dark wood paneling and a brick, wood-burning fireplace anchor the living area, along with a TV, DVD library, and sound system. The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove-top oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and slow cooker - no dishwasher. Children's books and toys are on hand.

Sleeping Arrangements

- Bedroom 1 (main floor): Queen bed, private deck, full bathroom
- Bedroom 2 (upstairs): Double bed plus 2 single beds
- Bedroom 3 (upstairs bunk room): Four built-in twin beds in the dormer roofline, with its own door onto a Juliet-style balcony over the National Forest
- Half bathroom upstairs - 1.5 bathrooms total for up to 8 guests

Outside

The main-floor deck and upstairs Juliet balcony look out over Mt. Hood National Forest. The property line runs directly into National Forest land and the Glade Trail - a ski day here ends at the back door, not a resort parking lot.

The Location

- Glade Trail and Mt. Hood National Forest: directly behind the property
- Timberline Lodge: via Mt. Hood Express bus, ski-back access on the Glade Trail
- Summit Ski Area / Skibowl and Mt. Hood Meadows: short drives
- Mirror Lake trailhead: nearby for summer hiking
- Government Camp village center: minutes away
- Sandy, OR: approximately 30 minutes; Portland: approximately 1 hour

A Few Things to Know

No smoking, no pets. There is no WiFi or cable - the TV plays DVDs only, so bring a hotspot as backup. No dishwasher. The house is shoe-free - pack slippers. Heating is baseboard and the house can start out cool at check-in, so bring warm layers. Exterior stairs can be icy and dark after dusk in snow season - use caution. The wood-burning fireplace is available for guest use. Firewood NOT provided. It can be purchased at Hoodland Thriftway in Welches or the Govy store. County permit ID #111480.

Who This Is For

Right for groups who want a genuine, unpolished mountain cabin - skiers riding the bus to Timberline and back down the Glade Trail, families who do not mind unplugging, and larger groups who value bedroom count over resort amenities. Not the right fit if reliable WiFi, streaming, or a fully modernized interior are must-haves.

Eight decades of Government Camp ski trips have passed through this door, and backyard access to the Glade Trail is still the reason people come back.
