About this house rental

Tucked away behind the lush foliage of its own small forest of Prinos trees, Villa Prinolithos is a hidden gem which offers total privacy and spectacular views over the silvery green olive covered valley below, to the azure sea sparkling in the distance. Nestled into the hillside high above the quaint village of Gavalohori, the solid gates open up to reveal a flag stone driveway leading to a private and peaceful 3000m2 oasis that is perfect for complete relaxation but is still within easy striking distance of the excellent tavernas in the many surrounding villages, and the gently shelving white sand beaches or Almyrida or Kalives.

A rustic atmosphere prevails in this welcoming and authentically 160m2 Cretan country home. Spread out over 3 levels with a generously proportioned sitting room and a separate annex apartment, there is no shortage of space in which to relax. With 4 air-conditioned bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, as well as a choice of outside terraces and lounging areas, Villa Prinolithos lends itself perfectly to groups or larger families who like to holiday together whilst still having the option of independence and privacy. Smaller parties and couples have not been neglected, however, as reduced rates are available in low and mid season without the use of the annexe apartment which would remain locked.

Traditional features such as cypress wood beamed ceilings, warm wood floors, doors and window frames, exposed stone window frames, stone archways, and cool tiled floors harmonise perfectly with contemporary comforts which include: such as free WIFI internet access, a Smart TV, a DVD player, a fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, a washing machine, a BBQ, fully tiled modern bathroom suites, and air conditioning units in the bedrooms, and annexe apartment. The A.C. units also double up as heaters, and there is a fireplace for the cooler nights early and late season. There is solar powered hot water with a back-up immersion heater, and a private parking area.

The interiors of Villa Prinolithos are absolutely charming, but the outside is just as appealing and will undoubtedly be the main focus of your holiday time. Patio doors open out from the living room, kitchen, and double bedroom onto a shaded dining area which is perfectly suited for congenial family meals whilst watching the glorious crimson and gold sunsets. Alternative seating and dining areas, furnished with a comfortable lounge suite, tables, and chairs, are situated next to the pool terrace from where the gorgeous panorama can be fully appreciated. With a double cabana bed, 8 further sunbeds, and 3 sun umbrellas the pool terrace itself is equally well equipped and perfect for relaxing beside the large infinity pool which was re-tiled in the winter of 2025/26 and has steps that make it easy to enter. Appetites already heightened by long days swimming and sunbathing, will be further stimulated by the delicious aroma of fresh local produce sizzling away on the barbeque. Both the views and food are perhaps best enjoyed with a cool glass of wine from the excellent winery in nearby Vrysses (though the Prinolithos grounds do also boast their own traditional grape press and vines).

Thoughtfully laid out to stay in keeping with the lie of the land, the majority of the spacious garden area has been left completely natural with rocks and an abundance of Prinos (a Greek relative of the Oak Tree) olive, and wild almond trees which provide shady hideaways for chilling out with a good book or a lazy afternoon nap. Around the villa and tiled terraces, there are low natural stone walls, paths laid with flagstone, and a multitude of flowerbeds planted with typically Mediterranean flowers and shrubs including, oleander, roses, juniper, hibiscus, geraniums and lavender, and the warm star-filled summer nights are perfumed by jasmine, wild thyme, rosemary and oregano. The impressively situated infinity pool sits dramatically on a terrace below which the hillside tumbles down to the quaint village of Gavalohori, ensuring that the privacy and faultless views remain unspoilt. The tranquillity at Villa Prinolithos is only interrupted by the breeze rustling in the trees and the chatter of the cicadas in the hot summer months.

It is difficult to convey the full beauty of this property in the accompanying photos but we are certain that you will find that Villa Prinolithos is the perfect haven for the uncompromising escapist who is looking for coastal seclusion with total privacy.

Please Note: For even larger groups we also rent out Villa Armonia on the next door plot, which has 3 bedrooms and can be seen on this website. The privacy of Villa Prinolithos is not affected in any way by the second villa, but the proximity to neighbours dictates a respectful awareness of noise level when enjoying the pool and terraces.

Had a lovely stay, the house was plenty big enough for our party of 8. You definitely need a car to get around. Almyrida has a really lovely beach with plenty of bars and restaurants for our 2 week stay. Great atmosphere there. Also visited Plaka for a couple of meals and Gavalochori and would highly recommend both. Only criticism is the tree could do with trimming as when sitting on balcony we couldn’t see the amazing view of the sea (see last photo). Other than that we had a great time and would definitely recommend to other people thinking of visiting this part of Crete.

Beautiful villa in the hills with stunning views. Arrival was easy with an email with information on key collection and very good directions from the airport, which was great as this was our first time driving abroad. We arrived to a few small supplies, oranges, coffee pods, along with local wine, honey and olive oil. The villa is located a short drive from both Vamos and Gavalohori, which have small shops, butchers and Tavernas. I would say a car is essential here, I wouldn't have walked to either place as the roads are steep and narrow. The villas itself was lovely, and it looks just as it does in the pictures. The outside lighting is wonderful and creates a fabulous atmosphere on an evening. There is a huge balcony with two seating areas accessible from the kitchen/living room and the double bedroom. We spent most evenings out here or sat around the pool enjoying the stunning views from wherever we sat. The pool itself was great and plenty big enough for our family of 3 adults and 2 children, and numerous floaties! The area around the pool was equally impressive, with plenty of sunloungers, a canopy lounger, and also a table and chairs. There was a table tennis table and 2 bikes which could be used too Previous reviews have stated these were in poor condition however the bikes looked very new and of quality and the table tennis was fine, perhaps they have been replaced recently. Inside was lovely and traditional. Small rooms but perfectly adequate and very clean

Our family and friends enjoyed the beautiful view and pool. Frankie and the housekeepers are super helpful, attentive and friendly. Be prepared for the mosquitos as they are relentless. We would recommend this villa if you are looking for a place that is quiet (you may hear some goats and sheep), close to a few beaches, and has a spectacular view!

Beautiful villa but a few issues. Downstairs accommodation and pool area had awful smell of drains, leaking toilet, limited food storage and bin far too small for size of villa. Pool Bushes need to be cut back as the beautiful view is obscured. All outside areas are infested by ants. Table tennis table needs replacing and bikes were unfit for use as had rusted chains and flat tyres.
