About this house rental
CURATED PROPERTY PRESENTS: A period farmhouse on the edge of the Somerset countryside, sleeping 16 across eight bedrooms. Three bold reception rooms, a spectacular kitchen extension with full-height Crittall glazing, and a garden that includes a Finnish BBQ kota, a stone pizza oven, and access to a shared lake with a wooden jetty.
The Space:
Little Oakhill has eight bedrooms across the main farmhouse, three with ensuite bathrooms. The standout master features bold yellow walls, a period fireplace, antique furniture, and an ensuite behind a full Crittall glass partition with marble herringbone tiles and brass fittings. A second master has a softer palette with garden views, while a third ensuite bedroom includes teal zellige tiles, a brass rain shower, and an exposed timber beam. A fourth ensuite bedroom, a fifth double room, and three further bedrooms on the top floor, including a twin room, complete the accommodation.
The house has three distinct reception rooms. The Blue Living Room is the main sitting room, with deep navy walls, a period fireplace, original artwork, sash windows, and eclectic vintage furniture. The Green Living Room is a more relaxed retreat with emerald walls, a stone fireplace, sofas, a TV, and bookshelves. In a separate wing, the games room has terracotta walls, stone floors, exposed beams, a full-size pool table, leather chairs, and a large dining table, making it a natural gathering space. There is also a piano.
The kitchen is one of the house’s highlights, with navy tongue-and-groove cabinetry, white stone worktops, a Belfast sink with a brass tap, and a coral-pink island with a black marble top and bar seating. A gas hob and double oven sit alongside. The room opens into a large glazed extension with Crittall-style windows overlooking the fields, where a rustic dining table seats ten comfortably.
The garden is a major draw for groups. A stone terrace with outdoor seating leads to a large lawn bordered by mature trees, flower beds, and traditional Somerset stone walls. The grounds include a Finnish BBQ kota with a central fire pit and seating for eight to ten, a stone-built pizza oven, a natural pond with a wooden jetty. PLEASE NOTE: The lake is shared with one other property. Swim at your own risk. No lifeguards on Duty. Do not enter the water if you are not a strong swimmer. Do not leave children unattended.
The three ensuite bathrooms are all individually designed, while the shared bathrooms are also finished to a high standard, including one with Moroccan encaustic floor tiles, travertine walls, and a stone vessel sink with an over-bath shower.
Guest Access:
Guests have full use of the house and all outdoor spaces, including the kota, the pizza oven, and the lake. Your arrival details will be confirmed in advance of your stay.
The Neighborhood:
Little Oakhill sits in the village of Oakhill on Brewery Lane, a quiet and deeply rural corner of Somerset. Shepton Mallet is about 3 miles away and has supermarkets, independent shops, and the Kilver Court designer outlet. Wells, one of England's smallest and most beautiful cities, is around 8 miles west, with its famous cathedral, a good market, and plenty of cafes and restaurants.
Glastonbury is about 10 miles south, Frome is around 8 miles east with its Sunday market, independent food scene and arts crowd, and Bath is roughly 15 miles to the north and well worth a day trip. The Mendip Hills are right on the doorstep for walking, cycling, and caving.
Getting Around:
A car is effectively essential at Little Oakhill, as you would expect from a rural Somerset village. The nearest mainline station is Castle Cary, around a 20-minute drive, with direct services to London Paddington. Free parking is available on site.
Other Things to Note:

Please note, the lake is shared with one other property. Please note there is another holiday let next door to the property.
No weddings or large events at this property. The owner living next door is worth bearing in mind: it is a private home with a neighbour close by, so guests should be mindful of the setting, particularly in the evenings outdoors.
There is a swimming lake on site. There is no lifeguard. Swim at your own risk. Do not leave children/pets unattended. Only swim if you are a confident swimmer.
Interaction with Guests:
The owner lives next door and is available if anything urgent comes up, but guests are left in peace to enjoy the house. Your day-to-day point of contact is the Curated Property team, who are on hand throughout your stay.
