About this house rental

East of Escondido, the hills climb toward Palomar, and the light here is worth watching twice: it opens across the eastern ridges at dawn and settles into the western valleys at dusk. Chateau Viento sits at the top of its own hill in San Diego's North County, a Spanish-style estate with the clean horizon in the view. Seven ensuite bedrooms and terraces on nearly every side give a group of sixteen the room to scatter and find their own corner of the sky. What You'll Love About Chateau Viento - Open views on every side, sunrise over the eastern ridges and sunset into the western hills - Hand-carved Cambodian wood doors and pillars that give the estate its character - A primary suite with two valley-facing balconies and a private east-facing spa deck built for first light - A hillside spa set lower on the slope, facing open country and little else - Sleeps 16 across seven ensuite bedrooms, so every guest wakes to their own bathroom Living & Dining The main level moves the way these houses were meant to, one room opening into the next under coffered ceilings, past carved doors and pillars and a curved staircase that anchors the floor. Tall windows pull the hillside indoors. In one corner, a fireplace and built-in shelves make the spot that fills up on cooler evenings, and when the whole group convenes, the dining table seats everyone without anyone eating off their lap. Chef-Ready Kitchen Granite counters run the length of the island, backed by dark wood cabinetry and a row of bar stools where people linger long after the plates are cleared. A second kitchen picks up the overflow, so feeding sixteen never bottlenecks in one room. Mornings settle into the breakfast nook, a bay of windows tucked into the corner where coffee comes with a view of the hills waking up. The Primary Suite The primary suite runs like a private wing. A sitting area, walk-in closets, and a mirrored vanity give it room to breathe, while the bath carries a steam-room-scale walk-in shower and a soaking tub angled toward the mountains. Two balconies look out over opposite valleys, and off the suite, an east-facing deck holds its own spa, where the first light of the day arrives before it reaches anywhere else in the house. Grounds & Terraces The grounds fall away across several elevations. The west side is built for gathering, with tiered patios, a lawn for games, and an outdoor kitchen whose built-in barbecue earns its keep once the sun drops behind the hills. Lower on the slope, the hillside spa sits framed by nothing but valley. On the east, a covered loggia trades walls for open country, and somewhere between the two, the day always seems to land back outside. Nearby This is the rural edge of North County, where Escondido's groves and ranchland give way to open country and the road climbs toward Palomar Mountain. Regional wineries and produce stands sit within an easy drive, and San Diego International Airport (SAN) anchors the trip in from the coast. The pace up here is slower than the beaches, which is most of the point. Sleeping Quarters - Primary suite: king plus a double bed, ensuite with a steam-room-scale shower and soaking tub, two valley-facing balconies and an east-facing spa deck - Guest bedroom 2: king plus a sofa bed, ensuite - Guest bedroom 3: king and two queens, ensuite - Guest bedroom 4: queen, ensuite - Guest bedroom 5: queen, ensuite - Guest bedroom 6: queen, ensuite - Guest bedroom 7: queen, ensuite Good to Know - No weddings or events permitted - Sleeps 16 across seven ensuite bedrooms - Not included in the rental: a separate ADU on the lower west side with its own access and long-term tenants, along with a staff office beside the covered garage TOT/COSD: COSD-00937 Seven ensuite bedrooms to scatter into, terraces on every side to regroup on, and a hilltop that keeps the horizon to itself. Chateau Viento does the rest.
